First impressions of the tank reworks

keeping it short and sweet as overall they're pretty good. I have only played one game per new rework however I've got plenty of games of their prior selves to compare against. Note I haven't tried many of the new items. Just the champs.

Sejuani: Her ganks and team fights are as good as ever and her 1v1 is better, which shouldn't be seen as a positive. I enjoy the fast and snappyness of the ult (I feel a real jolt when I land it) Her first clear feels horrid with the new W and I'd much prefer it be an auto attack enhancement than some clunky flail seizure. Despite the obscene armour she gets for a whopping whole second I ended up at 3 bars of HP after the blue, gromp and wolf camp. After that it's alright due to sej's newfound ability to 1 shot medium sized monsters and sunfire the little ones to death.

Maokai: HE CAN FINALLY JUNGLE! OMFG SO HAPPY. His kit feels solid for his early clear thanks to his new saplings. His heal is a bit much later in the game but is welcome to his new kit as a jungler. His ult is far too slow to gank unless he flanks and activates it from right behind the enemy. Even then you need to be practically right next to them otherwise they side step it. It is however a very good follow up for when bot lane initiates.

Zac: His new Q is my biggest gripe. It's very unrewarding to use in the jungle and punishes zac for clearing 3 of the camps. I feel successful use of the Q should reward an additional blob. Due to the increased cooldown on his Q Zac has a slightly lesser clear HP wise, ending up on 3 bars of HP after all camps excluding krugs. His ult is no where near as disappointing as I first imagined but stil suffer from severe anticlimactic qualities. **BUT NOW FOR THE REAL ISSUE**His walking animation and voice threshhold. His new homeguard run is an improvement, but his normal "I walk like a model with a steel pole up my ass" is anything but. It makes me cringe whenever I look and it may prevent me from ever tolerating seeing him in game again. His voice pitch change could be adjusted so it doesn't get as high as fast.

.

Overall very well done riot. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with the new tanks however the new jungle still pones other tanks likeAlistar BraumDrMundo Nautilus TahmKench. I've mentioned this as a solution to this issue many times, quill coat. This item solved the issue with tanks when you introduced it but then removed it as it didn't fit the new smite structure you gave to jungle items. Please. It was cheap, gave armour, a ward and that beautiful sapping barbs passive which could STACK with sunfire cape if you needed to clear.

8.8/10 GJ RIOT

This game going down hill fast.

Reworking just for the sake of it and everything that has gotten changed is labelled as unhealthy before the rework. No champ is safe outside stuff with the biggest fanbase like Lee/Ahri.

Ikr..... the tentacle lord is the greatest example of this.

HE WAS PERFECTION. He was balanced, healthy, fun to play as and against. No other mage was more perfect than pre change velkoz. Ahri, annie, xerath, malz, syndra, donger, lulu, brand. All have been complained about in the past about something. I never saw a thread placing koz in a negative light. He never needed change. Neither did zac.

The improved tank meta is just hilariously awesome XD.

Every match is now a bunch of beefy champions and you can't see what your doing.

All tanks take forever to die.

I didn't know I was playing Isometric SMITE.

Please, don't compare the awesome action packed Smite to LoL, the likes of Ymir and Kuzenbo won't appreciate it.

Feels like season 5 again

This is what I'd call an artificial meta. Everyone's spamming tanks, but it's unlikely to last. It's just like after the assassin rework.

Which is why I'd recommend staying out of ranked until it dies down. I know I am.

but muh gragas.

I'm doing fine with sejuani and alistar.

So many tanks right now can take so much abuse.

If sejuani does get nerfed then I will just pick taric for support if i get a nerfed sejuani. :P

huge mistake

sejuani is the freest LP ride we've seen in ages

It certainly won't last. Zac is overall a weaker jungler so mao, grag and rammus are imo the top 3 tanks followed by sej zac and braum.

Any other tank is a handicap.

Out of interest. Do you agree or disagree with my opinion of quill coat being the solution to this issue?

It would help but wouldn't be a solution. Quill Coat assuming it would be a starting alternative to Machete and Talisman would be better than Talisman on most tanks, but I still don't think they'd be good enough even at that.

Ultimately jungle tanks just need the absurd early pressure junglers in the meta right now toned down.

I think the Sejuani rework is very poor. Her jungle is just too slow to function in any real way, she gets destroyed even harder by early aggro now than she did before regardless of her clear HP. Traditional tank Sejuani builds also feel to reliant on melee allies to function in teamfights, you could try to build a team around Sejuani but it's a low payoff for sacrificing a lot of potential ranged champs, she's barely even better than Amumu even when you full build around her.

The best workaround to both of these issues is one I kind of figured might be present and hoped to god Riot would have been smart enough to foresee, but apparently not. You simply play Sejuani top and build her as a bruiser rather than a tank. I've personally been using Titanic Hydra and Phantom Dancer, but I could see things like Triforce and Wit's End being OK too. I've basically been playing her by ignoring her W in most cases and just using it on out of range enemies and while Qing. The combination of her passive, strong initial nuke on W/Q and stunlocking for AA DPS and passive burst has been surprisingly effective for me, far more so than the jungle tank build has been.

Her early clear does indeed suck balls. However I feel this could be assisted by aided by changing the W to enhanced AA due to it's then increased dmg.

I didn't find the E stacking an issue however I was ahead and when behind I can see it being a total pain in the ass to proc. I felt more like a fat assassin than anything else

E stacking isn't an issue VS a single target, E stacking in a team fight, forget it. Best work around for this, try to be VS a single target as often as you can. Her skills seem to synergise fairly well with this playstyle anyway, the passive prevents you from getting poked out while shoving up lanes, the Q/W combo is very strong for locking down a single target and her R is still actually good VS a single champ. Legit everything on her kit is better against 1 target than many, she seems like an odd splitpusher who can sometimes have a teamfight impact more than a teamfight tank like she used to, this basically necessitates top lane play though, which she actually seems surprisingly strong at.

I felt more like a fat assassin than anything else

Pretty much, I think that's one of the main things feeding into what I'm feeling.

Braum and TahmKench are pretty fine right now actually(haven't played with new items and such yet) now they'll be even better!(or at least braum will :D)

Sometimes bad walking animations alone can kill the appeal of a champ. Zac Karma Fiora

LankPants2 votes

And then there's Sejuani's art and animations. Every skin looks horrible and this should never have been allowed through.

Since when was Ali and Braum jg a thing?

TheSingularity1 votes

Last season everything worked in the jungle.

When naut wasn't working braum came to mind "aa stun, cap closer, knock up ult, warden tank" and he became one of the most enjoyable tank junglers I'd ever played.

Ali has always been able to jungle doe
