Suggestion Agenda:

  1. Remove Picks & Bans from matches.
  2. Allow Champion Selection & Ban Choice Before Queuing.
  3. Require Performance Standards In Normal To Use Champion In Ranked. --

-- Remove Picks & Bans From Matches -- Allow Champion Selection & Ban Choice Before Queuing --

Queue times are often high due to the lengthy period of choosing, banning, dodging, etc. All of this could easily be solved by allowing players to choose their champion and ban choice in the lobby before they queue and having the server fit matches together which meet the specific choices. With a system like this, there wouldn't be any reason to have the waiting period between picks and bans, and there wouldn't be any dodges since players will be put straight into matches. This removes the ability to counter pick obviously, but I for one would rather have someone who's played 1,000 games on Riven facing Darius than that same person picking Kennen when he's only played 1 game on Kennen. Ensuring the player understands how to use their champion is of far more importance for the quality of the game.

-- Require Performance Standards In Normal To Use Champions In Ranked --

With the way the current picks and ban system are, this doesn't work very well without many players getting upset. Many players like the concept of trading around to hide their picks from the enemy, but if this new system is implemented that's no longer a problem as the enemy never sees what you are picking. I don't think champion mastery should be used as a pre-requisite, but I do believe there needs to be stringent requirements before anyone is able to queue in ranked. From Iron, to Challenger, the mode is meant to be competitive. The only way to keep the ranked mode competitive is to ensure that players understand basic fundamentals of both their Champion and the game. This is done by forcing everyone who participates in ranked to play regular matches.

There should be some requirements per games played, win rate, and time passed in Normal matches for any one player to participate in a ranked match for League of Legends. I'm not aiming for anything intensively strict, even having a 50% win rate over 10 matches, with at least one regular match played per month is good enough for me. When a player drops under 50% win rate with more than 10 games played in regular matches, they should once more be unable to play that champion in the ranked mode. This accomplishes two things: Firstly, it lowers queue times in Normal by increasing the amount of players for the mode, and secondly it increases the quality of players who are participating in the ranked game mode.

Naturally there will be some problems with the matchmaking of regular matches since players of all MMR's are present there. For this solo matchmaking and pre-made matchmaking should be match made individually by the server and the server should attempt to only match players of similar status for solo players. Pre-made players should be matched against other pre-made players, with priority of closest MMR. Since having a pre-made team is a big advantage regardless of skills, I think there is less priority from this aspect of ranks.

Picks and bans is where all the hate forms in lobby's... I don't think LoL 2 is needed, they just need improvements to reduce tilt and player toxicity. No one enjoys their champion getting banned, whether it was someone on their team or the enemy team who banned it. No one likes waiting twenty minutes in queue due to other players constantly dodging everytime they're about to load into a match. It's never fun when someone loads into game with the wrong runes or masteries, or accidentally picks the wrong champion.

Most of the reason players troll is related in some form to picks and ban stage, where something happened that another player didn't like. It's the number one most toxic element in League of Legends and it simply needs to go. If Riot follows my suggestion, everyone will get their champion 100% of the time, they won't play against champions they don't want to be matched against, and they will be far more likely to have viable runes and masteries. Players will be more prepared and there will be a higher standard for game play, which will in turn help make the game a better environment for everyone.
