Is Diana broken, or..?

The Highest Noon··9 votes·8,475 views

Having played too many times with Diana during this whole Blood Moon event, I've noticed a couple things:

  1. Diana's R interacts with her Q before the Q even hits enemy champions
  2. With a single item (let's say Nashor's tooth) Diana can 100->0 any non-defensive champion within reasonable level-range with little to no counter-play available whatsoever, which is something that was supposed to have been fixed with the assassin update

It's great to be able to destroy almost everything with her, but when I think about how difficult it would be for the next player, it's a little disheartening. Or, maybe I'm just imagining things? Thoughts?

She's a diver. She goes in to assassinate one target, and her passive and shield helps her sustain a fight if she needs to. She has no escape and isn't really tanky.

She is completely stupendous when it comes to damage. One item is all she needs, and to people who say that she doesn't have an escape: she doesn't need one. She just kills you in lane over and over until she cant be stopped and gets 10 pentas in the same game. I'm exaggerating here but what annoys me about her is the fact that she has retardedly high burst AND is tanky. Like, at least nerf one of the two? make her less tanky or make her less bursty. Christ.

Riot initially designed her to be a fighter, not assassin... all they need to do is adjust some numbers/scaling/base stats and they could have that...

But they dont... and I'm not sure why :/

On a side note: play Diana as a bruiser sometime and tell me you didn't have fun :-P

Playing her, yeah, sure, it is fun. But playing against her just ruins everything, and when I think of how sh*tty I feel when I'm against her I lose the fun of playing her, too. And that's exactly what I'm thinking, she just needs adjusted numbers/scalings!! They don't need to change her kit or anything. Just make her only be an assassin or only be a bruiser, not both, it's ridiculous. There is basically no counterplay when she just jumps on you and oneshots you and the range on her pull is bigger than flash so you cant just flash out because she just pulls you in again... It's like akali, but way worse(as in, way stronger).

Well, I disagree to an extent. If Diana is fed, yeah. She will 100 to 0 you. Its the same with Akali. They are almost the same champ to be honest, except Akali has better escape tools.

Diana, once she is in, stays in unless its a solo assassination, or the enemy team just backs off. Diana also has to manage mana. I would say Akali is much worse to deal with when ahead enough to one shot you.

EDIT: And this is also why I think Diana should be made a bruiser and not an assassin. Akali is a well designed (if not a bit strong) assassin that does what Diana does but still has (if played right) the tools to get out after a pick. Diana has free attack speed, an auto attack buff (thats just her passive) a Shield, and some mild crowd control. A Dash with her ult and a way to reset it/poke with Q. Gated by mana, her kit SCREAMS bruiser.

What you said is true, however Akali's earlygame is SO weak, while Diana proceeds to sh*t on you lvl1. That's a big difference to me. Akali lvl1 cannot do anything.

Shahamut1 votes

Well, I unfortunately disagree again. I think from experience that Akali's early game is only weak depending on matchup. Diana doesn't do jack lvl 1, if she does, you aren't dodging ANY of her Qs, are melee, AND she is out of mana...?

I've yet to have a match against Akali where I don't trash her earlygame. But that usually doesn't matter because she gets one item and proceeds to faceroll my entire team. With Diana it's basically the same except her earlygame isn't as weak. Less sustain but more tankiness.

I think she's a bit strong, unless you have item 3157 there's almost no way to fight her unless you're tanky.

Yet somehow I still fail to kill a Sona at level 6,

Jeez i suck

I can agree that Diana is currently up there in terms of burst. As someone who is using her as Free Elo out of bronze, she can tear through almost an entire team given they have no hard CC. Even with Hard CC you can still probably manage 1 or 2. However landing her Q is a very essential part of this. If you miss even 1 Q in a fight or ulti the wrong person, you are as good as dead. However it isnt too difficult to counter her, as her Q ALWAYS travels in a counter clockwise direction, and normally if you see her running straight at you, you can be sure she is going to Q you. Another good tactic is walking towards her in that situation, as many times scuttle juked my Q with a well timed turn.

TLDR : Yes she stronk, so get good.

Even with hard CC you're looking at an enemy team with at least 2 squishy champs, so she can catch at least one before having to Zhonya's to avoid taking much damage, giving your team ample time to follow up and cover while she engages whoever else is close enough to melt. :D

All I'm here to say is that the reason her R seems to interact with Q before it lands is because if you Q -> R, the Q will land before the R therefor the Q is calculated and then the R

Basically, the abilities are considered upon landing (or missing in Q's case) vs. casting, so a good Diana will Ult immediately after Q if they know the Q will land

Well she has been always compared to akali. And well we know what akali was notorious for.

You should of seen her when she was released then lol She was alot stronger and her pull range was wider.

She doesn't seem that bad. Q is kinda hard to land and is the most mandatory part of her kit to make it work. Even if she lands it, if you have some MR, you shouldn't be dying. There are way more problematic champions out there, Diana is fine.

Reminder that I said "non-defensive". Sure, having a lot of MR helps, assuming she doesn't have magic pen to counter, but if it comes to NEEDING MR to not be bursted then my point's already being made. My real issue is with the lack of counter-play save for positioning, which shouldn't exist since assassin rework. All she needs to do is W-Q-R-R, which all occurs within I'll say two seconds? Not to mention she gets instant auto-attacks after her R lands, if I'm thinking right. Compared to the assassins who were at the very least adjusted to remove instant burst like that, why was Diana ignored?

i had 120 mr she had a revolver a half rabadons and penetration boots, she still dived me with 1 rotation under my turret.

Diana is quite weak right now and has been pushed far out of the meta. Since she has no disengage she must kill her targets and with the introduction of all these new tank items it has made diana's job even harder.

Titanium701 votes

I guess you could say Diana is a broken Champ - she's basicly the same type as Jarvan but still has the classification and bases of an Assassin. (And AP-Bruiser Itemization is non-existant). That's why Dianas only hope is to stack some AP and blow people UP. But besides that she can't do much.

So, Broken? Kinda. To strong? Not really. More on the weak side tbh.

I would say she's fine, it's not like her ult prevents her from being cc'd. I mean sure I used to main her, but it's not like it's impossible to dodge it, u can't get an ult reset without atleast starting the q animation and by then you should beable to have a general idea of where to dodge. She also has no reliable escape so further balances her. I've gone xayah mid against her (and sure she does have the invulnerability) but it was still doable (even without the ult)

I think you guys are all correct and incorrect on some points---that is to say, it's all based on observations and experience so I guess you can't actually be wrong. It all depends on how players build her and how they use her.

In my experience playing her (having not seen her on the enemy team over the past few weeks), I can agree that she's too well-built for an assassin or a bruiser. She's too tanky and has too much sustain for an assassin, and has too much high-damage burst for a fighter. I think we can all agree that she needs a fix. Either lower her damage or lower her survivability. You can't have both and consider her a balanced champion. And for those that say she can't disengage, she doesn't need to. She has enough survivability to just stroll out of a fight. And she doesn't need to build defensively because her defensive option stacks with her offensive ones, being that her two-fold shield uses AP an scaling. Simply building her damage also builds her survivability.
