so why does riot allow smurfing?

look at riven

riven said that they were a diamond smurf.

now in what way is smurfing healthy to ranked gameplay or gameplay in general?

I dont understand why riot allows it or why anyone would support it.

why is smurfing toxic to gameplay you might ask well for one

  1. a player intentionally plays on a smurf just to dominate lower skill leveled players and ahve a fun time at the cost of them enjoying the game or even having a decent chance of winning because they just dont have that higher level skill yet
  2. the person who is forced to play against the smurf (in this case me) who will inevitably do bad gets flamed for doing bad/feeding/ect. with constant requests to report me for feeding or whatever it might be
  3. It shows a serious flaw in the matchmaking system
  4. instead of having same skill leveled players against each other you have a player who is at a much higher skill level versus a lower skill level
  5. It unfairly boosts and lowers the hidden ELO of the winning time (boost) and losing team (lowered)

Now I ask why riot still hasnt made it a report and bannable offense because didnt they add that nifty feature that restricted duo Q to one tier above or lower than your current tier (IE silver can only duo with bronze or gold and gold can only duo with silver or plat) because they were tired of people in plat and diamond duoing with lower level players and facestomping games?

so why Is it ok to allow a player to make a second account with the intention to just "fuck somebodys day up" which causes my team to be toxic tword me, me to feel like im shitty at the game even though I know its a smurf, and generally not have fun because of the gap in skill?

TLDR: smurfing is toxic and should be a bannable offense

Because they can't stop it.

well heres an idea: A simple IP based system (assuming the majority of players dont know how to use VPN's) that scans for other accounts on your IP (for players not playing in a family ect) if a secondary account is detected the game could alter your ranked skill level on the smurf IE you make a smurf and it FORCES you into the elo your other account is at therefore you cant play at a lower or higher elo

I play with my brother in the same house though...how would riot know if family and friends who come over aren't smurf accounts or real accounts? they really couldn't tell the difference.

I was playing a normal game once and we had a Vayne ADC and I was Soraka support. Keep in mind, this is below 30. I was probably 17 or so when it happened. He was also streaming (with 0 viewers I might add). During stream he just complained at how terrible of a Soraka I am...Like...I'm 17...What are you expecting from me? He then said he doesn't need a support so I went and helped mid and top. He got completely stomped in bot lane because he was by himself and then complained about not having a support. It was hilarious. We lost the game, but he kept trying to surrender and the rest of us kept saying no to drag out the game just to irritate him.

I've said it once, and I'll say it again.

Experienced players who have other accounts (other than for ARAM I suppose) are immediately suspicious to me

If they're doing it to play at the same time with an unexperienced player/friend/whoever that's fine and dandy, I suppose

if they're doing it to win games easily because of the difference in skill level, that's fucking scummy and you should be ashamed of yourself for that. I hate that shit.

exactly... and this riven was pretty toxic telling me how I was trash ect

That Riven might not be a smurf. Once Riven has 2 kills she snowballs ridiculously hard and gets kills all over the place, that person probably just got lucky and wanted to brag. Hell once I went 34/4 in ARAM as Zed ( I don't even play him that much) and joked that I was smurfing, enemy team actually believed me.

Just because someone gets and insane KD doesn't mean they are smurfing.

very true. when I watch streams and people say they are smurfing, even when they have a good score, I can tell since they play like the rank they really belong to, they sometimes get lucky with someone who isn't as good to lane vs.

because we aren't allowed to buy level 30 accounts. I wish I could buy a level 30 account and play exclusively adc on it to practice the role rather than just feeding in my own elo since my adc isn't on par with my top laning but I'm not allowed to do that. so instead I have to play normals to practice it where I get grouped up with golds and silvers, rather than ranked where I can play with people who are actually taking the game seriously which is the atmosphere I would rather learn in.

Arcade Andrew1 votes

so your excuse is youll feed in norms and not in ranked and its ok to ruin a lower elos game so you can get better?

colesy1 votes

feed? what? I stomp my lane almost every game. the last time I played adc in a normal I went 20/3/10 and then 6/4/7 before that. the problem is, sure, I stomped lane. but it's a normal. people don't try that hard. if I played adc in ranked it would probably go a bit differently because people are actually making an effort.

to be fair i only agree with people on smurfs to play new champs etc but if they do it for the feeling of stomping etc then it is toxic when i first playe dthis game i have encountered smurfs i was like "how did they do this an dthat " as i reached level 30 i learned they were smurfing

im currently leveling up a smurf because

  1. better placements
  2. playing on the new account actually makes me better at things like last hitting since i dont have runes
  3. allows me to learn other champs without risking tanking my mmr on my main anymore then it is

i dont think smurfing should be banable losing on purpose to keep your smurf in low elo should be if they hard carry yeah that sucks for the losing team but the smurf should rocket twords there correct elo however if they lose in order to keep the account mmr down then yeah ban them

it is bannable for anyone, including a smurf to lose games on purpose in order to keep themselves in a lower rank. if a smurf does badly on placements and then hard carries every game, you won't see them again ever really. people think there are more smurfs than there actually are, it's fairly rare and a lot of people lie about being a smurf.

its not actually bannable to lose on purpose its bannable to feed or afk but theirs no way to report trolling like had a smurf vayne who only went for kills and after we aced the team she just hung out in their base waiting for respawns instead of taking inhibs or towers she lost us the game. or another smurf who literally just farmed the jungle the entire game the only time they left the jungle was to farm lanes they wouldn't push them just farm them. or the smurf who literally refuses to group and instead does a split push wile the other team is on your nexus turret's saying "i need to lose some to keep this account down" unless they admit in chat to throwing you cant report them even thou its very obvious that there throwing on purpose

while it is true that people think there are way more smurfs then there really are, at least i can take one look at a player on a specified champion, and pretty much know at least if they are high or low elo. like if their positioning of abilities is to tight, or their ability transitions are to clean, or their reaction speed to fast. generally it isnt hard to look at a fame with a smurf in it and tell who it is simply do to their obviously better mechanics and understanding of their champions and the game as a whole

richman211 votes

im sorry but i agree for sure, smurf to get better at your basics till your hearts content, or play some little account norms to curbstomp games and detilt or whatever. but when it comes to ranked? i think smurfing in ranked specifically should be a bannable offense. as it ruins the game for other people. lp is hard earned when your not just curbing games. the last thin i want in a game is for someone to waste 30+ minutes snatching 20 lp out of me, just because they are way above my skill level, but are purposely disguising their skill level for some selfish reason. its allowing challenger and master tier players to go up against bronze, silver, and gold players, which is something riot doesnt allow, we know this because you can only queue with others that are one tier away from your own, so why should i habe to waste an hour and a half( half an hour to lose that game to a high elo smurf, and another hour just to recover at least the lost LP from game one) just because faker or any other high elo didnt like how his stats looked?

people want to make multiple accounts and play. nothing to see here.. move along.

Lugg1 votes

While it is abused some, most players have a smurf account to play with friends.

Sphiinx1 votes

I totally agree. Me and my friends can't remember the last time we had a fair game that was long and even. The system is going south fast. In the end players of lower tiers will leave. It's the only thing we can do.
