Still waiting for a simple, straightforward bruiser.

EDIT: I guess asking politely for a certain style of champions deserves downvotes... at least let me know in replies why it will or will not happen, or why/why not you'd like it to.

It seems like every recent release has either been a ranged champion and/or has some sort of unnecessarily complex gimmick.

It could be just me, but I really enjoy champions that can dive in as an initiate, tank damage, or deal damage at melee range. All of my lv 5 masteries, 90% of my levels 4s, and most level 3s are melee. The exceptions are Veigar, Twitch, Ryze, and Kayle (maybe I missed others).

What I'm getting at, is that I'd like to see a simple, easily picked up melee bruiser/carry/fighter champion. Straightforward, no gimmicks. It seems like Riot feels like they've run out of simplistic champion concepts, and are resorting to very niche roles and kits.

The two/three champions people might bring up in this post are Rek'sai, Tahm, and Illaoi.

Rek'sai has a vision gimmick, and her kit is hard to pick up because it lacks damage and CC. She's basically a vision/knockup bot.

Tahm is more of a tank, and his entire kit's damage is in his W. A gimmick, because Tahm eats things. His kit is somewhat difficult because it has so much power shoved into one ability with many varying effects based on how it's used.

Illaoi's gimmick is zone control with tentacles, which makes it hard to just "go in" when you feel like it. Requires planning and tactics as well as working around vessels and spirits.

I'd like to not leave a complaint without suggestions, but I'm sort of at a loss of what exactly I want. Doesn't need to be an AA champ or only a caster, either is fine. I'm looking for a release at Renekton, Shyvana, Udyr, Nasus, Xin, Yi, Fiora, Tryndamere, Singed, Maokai, Zac, Sejuani, etc. levels of difficulty. I've yet to see a new champion and think "dang, I can't wait to play that." I don't like mages or ADCs because being ranged comes with less survivability and more emphasis on positioning and all of the Melees recently releases have been really complex.

By simplistic, I mean a synergistic passive, maybe an AS increase or AA modifier, easy to land CC or none at all, some sort of gapclose or initiate, and an easy to understand and use ultimate. Press button, do damage/tank damage/etc. Sounds generic, but I really find that playstyle to be fun. I've yet to see it in any recent releases. The most recent would have to be somewhere between Gnar/Braum/Yas/Aatrox. Please rito, make me excited for a release.

Just play Volibear. You don't need anyone else. He does it all.

I do like Voli, but I'd appreciate an appealing new release. Seems like every time I see a new release post, I read it and am immediately disenchanted and uninterested because it's yet another ADC or mage or they have some weird kit focus.

why don't you just play Vi if you want a champion like Vi

I have played Vi, I'd just like to feel excitement for a release for once.

There is probably not enought design space left for such a champion (it would end up being too similar to an existing champion).

As you say yourself, their kit would be pretty generic, and Riot has been intentionally moving away from such design.

I anything, we can expect existing fighters to be reworked as part of future Roster Updates.

Vi was originally designed to be a top laner. Go figure

Yeah unfortunately the next new thing will probably be a champion you need a Razer mouse to operate with 16 buttons. I'd like to see new straightforward champions as well. I stopped buying the new champions just because I don't want to read a paragraph before I try to learn them on each ability. I like the abilities that say "Does extra damage to whoever you want to kill"

This. I don't want to read paragraphs of text to use a 4 part ability. I want to hit Q to do damage, hit W for CC or attack speed, and hit E for a gapcloser or shield. Add some fun in there, but I'd like the core simplicity to remain.

Same, however, Riot has released reworks like Gangplank Fiora Poppy although Poppy is arguabley the only one with a low skill floor, although she has a high skill ceiling.
