Assassin Class Update - The Big Six

Valor Bot··3 votes·2,372 views

So, judging by the Rioter posts made a while back over at the Assassin Class Update thread, I've gauged which of the six Champions under the Assassin subclass are most likely to be part of the group to receive major changes:

Katarina Katarina Rengar Rengar Talon Talon Fizz Fizz (?) Leblanc LeBlanc (?) Kassadin Kassadin (?)

The following three Assassins, on the other hand, are unlikely to receive major changes due to already being** unique and in a good place**:

Khazix Kha'Zix Zed Zed Ekko Ekko (?)

And finally, these are the batch of Assassins that will almost certainly not be part of the "Big Six," as they require work far greater than a roster project has to offer them (but will likely be receiving small, individual changes/tuning/fixes like the group above to tide them over in the mean time):

Akali Akali Evelynn Evelynn Shaco Shaco

(?) = The Champions marked by a "(?)" are still largely unconfirmed and interchangeable, as any official posts made by Riot in regards to them (or lack thereof, in Kassadin's case) do not give a strong indication of whether they will be part of the Big Six. This means Ekko may very well be a part of the group to receive major changes, taking either Fizz's, LeBlanc's, or Kassadin's place (and vice versa).

EDIT/UPDATE: Something I missed when typing up this post is that it seems like Riot's plans are actually to make major changes to a smaller pool of Assassins this time around (3-5 Champs at most):

{quoted} The biggest difference in the Assassin update is that there will be fewer updates in order to ensure each of them is a significant change that both solve their gameplay issues and push their unique identities. Quality over quantity.

Still, the set of Champions that are most likely to be receiving big changes for this roster update remain the same (Katarina, Rengar, and Talon); we will have to wait and see whether Fizz, LeBlanc, Kassadin, and/or Ekko will be receiving major changes too, as they are just big "maybes" at this point.

Honestly, Talon just needs a new passive and some work done to his E. With his current E, he is very do or die, and I don't think that's very good. And his passive sucks.

Talon has a passive?!

japan hate acc4 votes

Lmao exactly

Frost Hellfire1 votes

Seriously though, Talon is one of my top 3 champions and I completely forgot he has a passive.

Eh, I'm fairly certain that Shaco will be getting changes. I don't think he's far off the mark.

I don't think the current balance of his kit is what Riot is concerned with. Shaco has an antiquated kit and model, and as such, probably needs a heavy rework to align him with modern standards. So while numerically, it may be ok, in terms of looks and kit in general, he needs refreshing.

Where is MasterYi in all this?

Not an assassin.

They have fuck up with so many reworks, I'm actually afraid of them reworking Fizz.

I welcome it. If they screw him up, who's gonna miss him, other than Fizz mains?

Frost Hellfire3 votes

If they screw him up like they screwed Garen and Darius and Ryze, then, y'know, shit's gonna be bad. He'd probably get permabanned though.

Ryze is in a way better spot now, and feels easy and playable for a 450 character, and nowhere near as busted as he once was. As for Fizz, that cancerous little fish has been cheesing around far too long without some kind of balance, so I hope the fillet him and roast him. Whatever they do will make him better, IMO.

If you were asking for reworks that have really sucked, Mordekaiser and Skarner comes more to mind. Garen's Criminal maybe isn't the best thing for the game, but it is nowhere as bad as you try to make it seems, and Darius is actually the best rework of the Juggernaut.

Jesus Is My King2 votes

yay! my main akali wont be reworked :) well.. according to some random person i dont know.

japan hate acc3 votes

Not to kill the mood or anything, but Riot said that Akali has enough problems that she needs a completely individual rework, since a class reword can't cover it.

I did give my sources in the main post. Obviously, nothing is set in stone, but judging by the Riot post I referenced it doesn't seem like she's going to be a major focus of this roster update.

On one hand, they said Ekko is okay :(

On the other hand, they basically agreed that "good spot" for Zed is the same spot Zed mains call "being gutted" :)

Talk about mixed feelings.

When did they say this? His tank build still outperforms his AP build and his kit still fundamentally seems like it is meant to be built as a tanky diver.

The only reason that makes sense to not include Ekko in the rework is that he wasn't actually intended to be an assassin (more of a skirmisher) or they've given up at trying to make him a high damage champ and are going to start re-balancing him as a tanky diver instead (imo, the only way to solve this problem efficiently)

Ralanr1 votes

I haven't checked, but is his tanky build still out damaging his AP build? I play him full AP (with a visage sometimes) and I pop people really quickly. I can't imagine building no AP gives better results.

Probably not, but who cares? He still has an aoe stun, an aoe slow, survivability tools that work better when he's pretty tanky, those tools more than make up for having mediocre damage. And a chunk of his burst (his ult) only works if he gets to stand around in a fight long enough for his shadow to catch up so he can ult to both recover a ton of health and deal damage in an AoE.

I think a lot of people care since that's what is supposed to draw people away from building him tanky.

His ult does a crazy amount of damage in full AP anyway. And returns more of the damage cause the damage return scales with AP.

And they've tried it like 3 times now and it hasn't worked.

If you aren't tanky then you get zero damage out of it because you don't have the luxury of waiting around for the AoE to get on top of enemies. If you aren't tanky you also don't actually lose that much hp before it's time to hit the panic button so the "damage taken" ratio goes to waste.

Every single part of Ekko's kit that is supposed to make him a nimble glass cannon melee makes more sense on a brutish diver with a lot of durability.

Ralanr1 votes

Sorry dude, I've seen too many health bars get deleted when I use my ult as full AP Ekko. None of them being my own.

Frost Hellfire3 votes

I'm a Zed main. As long as Zed stops being a goddamn perma ban, I'll be okay even if he gets gutted.

its not going to be 6, they said its going to be like 4-5 but with larger changes than the marksman and mage big 6 got.

Kha damage is fkn horse shit, balance my ass

Blåbæret1 votes

Khazix with his resets in a good place balance-Wise? Heck no. Resets and get-away mechanics need to be removed.

I do think Assassins should be able to get out after getting a kill, but only if they are able to kill their target. Killing and then dying is not very rewarding...

Does anyone know when this is going down?

Pre-Season 7, thus end of this year.

f***, if they are going to change LeBlanc so much that she reminds me of Shaco, I will create a new account without games on her.

PS.: I just hate Shaco's design and theme

Valor Bot1 votes

When trying to come up with ideas for what may be in store for LeBlanc, I noticed just how many kit features she shares with Shaco (invisibility, clones, blinks). I do hope that any gameplay changes made to LB are kept sufficiently distinct from his.

Michael Sykes1 votes

yep, same here. In my opinion her kit is already unique. I agree that she could be more deceiving. I mean, she can juke enemies with her dashes and blinks - I am certain that her w and ultimate won't change. Then she has her passive, which could in fact be more interesting. And although her q and e are not that much of a deceiving assassin, they are an important part of her kit as a burst assassin (and at least the name "Ethereal Chains" sounds somehow like her theme).

So LeBlanc might have the problem that she is unhealthy because of her burst that is very fast when she is ahead, and I'd say that the q+r combo does too much damage - there should be more reward for hitting the chain after this. But beside that, they could do much wrong with her kit which already synergizes well.

But damn, everytime my motiviation for LoL goes down this champion helps me to enjoy it again. And there is nothing I like about Shaco - why does an assassin has "mines"? Why it has an unhealthy blink with a very long invisibilty (that could be countered totally by pink wards)? At least dashes and "return pads" are predictable...

Annoxis1 votes

Actually, they stated that, since the class was smaller than Mages, it is very likely that there will be less big updateq than with the Mage Update. Furthermore, Mages was englobing the three subclasses of Mages (Battle, Burst and Artillery). Assassins is already a subclass of the Slayer.

You're right, I seem to have missed that. Thanks! I updated the main post.
