If Ekko gets all of that damage, utility, and mobility

Akali is SO HOT··52 votes·4,110 views

Why would he also get a free escape that also does a fuckton of damage and heals him at the same time? Did I mention it's range is global? And that it costs no mana?

I'm going to copy and paste this because most people keep bringing it up:

With his passive, q, and e he has a total of 1.7 AP Ratio and one of his abilities applies on hit effects. Don't forget the passive on W for even more damage.

With all of her abilities used Akali has a 1.8 AP Ratio with one of her abilities doing physical damage. Meanwhile she has a pathetic slow as utility while Ekko has a fuckton more and no %health damage like Ekko does. So she gets 0.1 higher AP Ratio and in exchange for slightly lower damage without landing his ult on one person Ekko gets a fuckton more than Akali does in his kit.

I could go over more Assassins but that's basically the idea for most of them.

I think the "costing no mana" is the biggest issue honestly, because it just flat out doesn't deserve to.

Can anyone tell me why it should cost no mana? Anyone? Anyone at all?

So just in case he screws up in a teamfight he isn't punished for it like almost every other Assassin is.

Akali Diana Fiora Fizz Kassadin Katarina Khazix MasterYi Shaco Riven Rengar Talon Yasuo

If you go into the enemy team as any of these champions and you screw up you don't get a second chance unless the enemy team is really bad. This guy Ekko can practically flash into the middle of the enemy team and afk for 2 or 3 seconds and then press R to get out ez

Akali can shroud and maybe escape. Not as reliable but possible. Diana can get out, plus she is much more durable Fiora is all in, but she's a different kind of champ Fizz, really? Guy is arguably safer then Ekko. I take it you dont know his kit. Kass can ult out of a failed attempt. Moderately safe Kat is tricky but can shumpo out. Less safe bug huge intsa burst so yeah Kha can be slippery and escape as well. Yi, has options, not as safe but not without options. Shaco cas a very strong pair of escapes, between smart Ult usage and Q, very safe. Riven super mobile with a insta sheild and plenty of dash. Also super safe Rengar not so much. Talon can decide once he ults, which is usually last in his combo, if he wants to escape Yas can escape rather well in many situations.

Dont be an idiot.

-Akali's shroud is unreliable as hell -Diana is not gonna get out lol -Still not getting out -Fizz isn't even close to safer than Ekko -After the ult range nerf it's pretty hard to get out as Kass unless you can blink over a wall -Kat is not getting out with shunpo -Khazix can sorta do it but it's really hard -Yi doesn't have any means of getting out besides an ms boost -Shaco is definitely never going to get out of a teamfight if he wants to kill anyone -Same as Shaco for Riven -If Talon is killing you without having to use his ult as an escape there is a problem -Yas will never escape a teamfight unless he can kite around minions which aren't typically around during teamfights

This guy literally presses R and blinks to safety regardless of what is going on in the fight lol

DrNova4 votes

If he isnt locked down with CC as other guy said, and he blows up pretty fast. Yes its a strong escape, but so what? He has 4 seconds to use it to actually escape. I'd say maybe 2 seconds. Or he teleports close by and can still be killed pretty easily.

Talking it up like it is gamebreaking doesnt change the fact of the matter that even his ult has counterplay.

The only way it is a perfect escape is if he is flat out running and uses it while it is far away. If he gets into a fight and really engages, at least 2-3 seconds Minimun elapse, and the ult is basically right there. He gets a burst and a heal yeah, but then it stops being an escape.

Depends how it is played. It has options, which makes it cool. And strong, yes. But you are completely misrepresenting it just to cheapen your argument.

only zhule3 votes

would like to see one additional level of counter play added, and that is that his ghost trail doesn't disappear totally .25-.5 seconds after you lose sight of him. I'm fine with not seeing where it goes after i lose sight, i'm fine with no see part of the trail if i don't see ekko (example: Ekko goes into fog of war, i move forward ekko still isn't in view thus i can't see the part of his trail that was hidden in fog of war). As it is i think it's a little bullshit that his whole trail disappears and reappears a moment after you lose or regain sight of him. I'd compare it to the bug that was happening with Nid for a bit where if you went into bush after throwing spear the spear was invisible.

Literally almost every example you gave is negated by the fact that they need to use their "safety" abilities to get into the fight in the first place. Ekko doesnt need his ult to engage a fight (Although it can be used that way) If he goes in and messes up he can just ult back out. Only assassins that are even close to how safe he is are zed and lb, and even then their get out of jail free cards dont heal them of all the damage they took.

Ekko ult has many uses. Escape, heal, damage, teleport, ect. Its an incredibly usefull spell, problem is its so good that ekko can mess up and as long as he isn't chain cc'd into the ground he can get away. Damage, mobility, utility, range, tankyness (whether in the form of shields, lifesteal, or base stats) Be a master of 2 or a jack of all trades master of non and you can make a fairly balanced champion. Ekko is a generalist who is currently overturned and so is a master of all elements.

As much as I think Ekko's kit is "fair" due to a lot of telegraphing and delays, he does have some issues and I think the no mana cost on his ultimate is one. I like Ekko and honestly even I think that's bullshit. If I run out of mana, I should be fucked like everyone else, especially when I have a passive that encourages spamming spells but should be punishable when used by stupidity.

Though I think the W passive is a bit much. Sure, plenty of champions have secondary passives (like Veigar, curiously enough), but I don't think Ekko needs it.

Mandang01 votes

I honestly think that's the wrong nerf to make. How often is the ult up, and how big of a nerf is it if it costs say 150 mana every time it's up? Much more impactful would be adding mana costs to his other skills. Or, more to the point, give him an actual weakness by nerfing bases (shields, heals, or damage) or cooldowns.

I'd rather see them remove the heal than the mana cost.

Don't worry, I'll help you. One of the burdens of intelligence, but ah well, such is my fate.

  1. Predictable - All of his moves are telgraphed and can be seen from a mile away.
  2. Damage - Most of his burst damage is loaded into his ult. Which is literally the easiest thing in the world to avoid, because you have 4 seconds to see it coming. Without his ult, his damage isn't particularly special for an assassin.
  3. Harass - He has no actual sustain in lane, and his Q chews through his mana if he uses it to farm. Constantly poke him and make him b whenever possible.
  4. People who fight back - Ekko thrives on your fear. He lives to know that if he engages, you're going to turn tail and run. Don't give him that satisfaction. Any champion that can turn a fight around on Ekko will absolutely destroy him. To name a few mid lane examples: Zyra, Viktor, Swain, Mordekaiser, Lissandra, and Diana.

The only ability that is actually predictable is his W and you don't even see where it lands until 0.5 seconds before it does. His ult can be predictable but it is hard to keep track of it in a fight in a addition to where it is exactly going to move with Ekko flying all over the place. Saying his Q and E are predictable is just stupid

With his passive, q, and e he has a total of 1.7 AP Ratio and one of his abilities applies on hit effects. Don't forget the passive on W for even more damage. Akali has a 1.8 with all of her abilities used without any of the utility or CC that Ekko has. With only 3 abilities his damage is pretty fucking good for an assassin.

A lot of champs don't have sustain in lane so that isn't an argument.

His Q is incredibly predictable. Or are you trolling? I mean, have you seen how slow it moves? If you get hit by the 2nd part, either Ekko is right on top of you, you've been cced by something else, or you deserve to be hit.

Akali has a 1.8 with all of her abilities used without any of the utility or CC that Ekko has. With only 3 abilities his damage is pretty fucking good for an assassin.

Where are you getting 1.8 from? 3 uses of her ult alone is 1.5. Or were you thinking she'd only use it once? Counting the extra 2 ult charges, she actually has a 2.8 AP ratio. Guess that blows Ekko out of the water. And to add insult to injury, she has built in sustain and is manaless, so she can hang around lane longer than he can

A lot of champs don't have sustain in lane so that isn't an argument.

A lot of champs don't go melee in a ranged lane. There's Zed, who typically rushes cutlass. There's Talon, who does the same. Kass has an anti magic shield. And...that's kind of it, actually. Akali has built in sustain, and Diana does more jungling than mid these days. I haven't seen a Fizz since his nerfs, so I can't actually comment on him. Oh right, theres Yasuo, but he gets wrecked pretty badly nowadays.

Nilok2 votes

You are correct, a lot of champions don't go melee into a ranged lane unless they can out damage the mage and control the lane. You also make a good point that a lot of melee champs that went mid, have since been nerfed.

Narasimha2 votes

To be fair, everything has been nerfed. The whole reason assassins got a foothold in midlane after so long was the mana regen nerfs. Before that, it was a joke to see Kat or Diana, and even Akali was iffy.

Audiomancy2 votes

Literally everything you said can be applied to about 95% of mid laners.

{quoted} Predictable - All of his moves are telgraphed and can be seen from a mile away.

Tell me one mid laner who doesn't have highly telegraphed attacks (except Annie and LeBlanc because they're special snowflakes).

Damage - Most of his burst damage is loaded into his ult. Which is literally the easiest thing in the world to avoid, because you have 4 seconds to see it coming. Without his ult, his damage isn't particularly special for an assassin.

Really? Veigar, Lux, Syndra, Annie, Malz, Lissandra, Viktor, Vel'Koz. Every single one of them rely on their ult to burst someone down - and with the exception of Lissandra, none of them have a single "oh shit I dun goofed better get away scott free" button.

Harass - He has no actual sustain in lane, and his Q chews through his mana if he uses it to farm. Constantly poke him and make him b whenever possible.

Once again, almost no mid laners lack sustain. Veigar, Lux, Malz (barring his E, which still doesn't make up for his ridiculous mana costs), Viktor, Orianna, Vel'Koz. Lux's and Viktor's E in particular cost a staggering 130 mana to cast at max rank, and Veigar needs to expend at least 210 mana to do any real damage - and even then, relies on the enemy screwing up. Ekko by comparison can spam whatever the hell he likes because his mana costs aren't sky-high, and he never has to worry about not having mana for his Ultimate.

4People who fight back - Ekko thrives on your fear.

So what you're telling me is "don't go in when the enemy has everything up"? Great advice. Shame that's not unique to Ekko. But it's ok. The fact that Ekko can outdamage, out CC and outmaneuver everyone is fine. As long as he makes flashy plays, right?

Don't worry, I'll help you. One of the burdens of intelligence, but ah well, such is my fate.

Oh, and just so you know, that makes you sound like a major snob.

I just beat an Ekko mid with an Urgot. Let me tell you how.

I knew he would Q, so I stayed to the sides of minion wave, and back enough I could dodge it. If he wanted to waste throwing it at me, he got nothing off of minions. When it was down I would poke or trade with him.

When I saw he W'd, because its clearly visible and audible, I backed off or to the side, depending where he was likely trying to throw it. I didnt see it any earlier then anyone else, but common sense told me where he wanted to engage. He never hit me with it.

I out poked him by poking when his Q was on CD, making him hesitant to come in for CS since he is MELEE, and he lost the CS war.

By the time he got his ult, it was always blown for escape because I didnt feed him and out CS'd him and made him miss most his abilities, so he wasnt fed and couldnt afford to engage.

Its called outplaying a champ. Ekko has plenty of outplay oppertunities.

I truly am sorry if you are unwilling or unable to learn them.

Keep in mind Urgot is super immobile.

I get the slightest feeling you're slightly biased towards Akali. 1.8 AP ratio seems low, are you assuming you only land your ult once? Ignoring her AD scaling? And assuming she doesn't get more then one rotation off in a fight? Even ignoring that, I remember Akali having respectable sustain, as in, a large amount of free spellvamp?

JZPorkins2 votes

haven't really played akali but doesn't she have 2 point and clicks and then 1 aoe? Ekko has 1 Skillshot, 1 Dash/Point&Click, and then whatever you want to consider his ult as. kinda skillshotty? if he doesn't land his q and then engages he's not going to trigger his passive quickly and chances are you'll win the fight. if he only lands the front end of the Q it's .2 AP and then E + 1 auto for his passive and you'll probably win that trade since he lost the .6 on the return Q. if he ends up using his ult to escape then he's down an ult and an easy kill.

With his passive, q, and e he has a total of 1.7 AP Ratio and one of his abilities applies on hit effects. Don't forget the passive on W for even more damage.

Assuming you hit both q's, yeah. If your enemy dodges the Q's return, you're down 0.6, to 1.1 ratio. And if you can't get off another auto to make up for the missed Q stack, you're down another .7, to a measly .4 AP ratio. Of course, he builds lich bane and Luden's, so that adds on .65, bringing you up to a 1.05 total ratio.

As others have pointed out, you also ignore the nature of the skills and the kit they're on -- that's like saying Nunu or Rumble are OP because of their ult's 2.5 and 1.5 AP ratios respectively, even though nobody lands a fully charged nunu ult without help, and rarely does anyone land a full rumble ult.

Also, I didn't do the math but you completely ignore base damages, which matter.

tl;dr I think you have a point, but you also need to follow up with some discussion about the reliability of his burst, etc. Just stating things without context doesn't make a good argument.

I'm not saying to dismiss your argument because you're unranked it's just doesn't help your argument either.

Why would it matter any? It has nothing to do with their argument.

Yes cc affects everyone but there are some champions that are hurt far more for it than others simply because of how you have to play to do anything. Master yi, has the same problem as Ekko, in this regard. When he wants to attack you have no choice but to facetank everything to just get close. Ekko, has a small dash but nowhere near the level of Zed, or Leblanc. his cooldowns are nowhere near as safe as those two.

His ult technically has a global range with teleport but it's silly to call it such. You have to tp into somewhere and get burst down instantly for it to have the range you're talking about in the way it would possibly be useful. You have to take a crapton of damage in about two seconds after the tp and not be cc'ed then ult away. It's just silly.

He is a safe champion but nowhere near as safe as he is being made out to be. His cc is hard to hit with anything more than a slow. Hitting a stun is hard as hell. You have to predict sooooooooo damn much for it to even hit them then you gotta be close enough to pop it.

You don't go over other assassins because it would prove you wrong.

LeBlanc: More damage (by about 800), more mobility, more safety, faster burst

Diana: More damage (base damage and ratios), on-demand shield, tankier because of this insta-shield, faster burst
