Support as a role itself isn't even that hard, just don't get caught out and peel for people (Is it really that hard to look around in a fight and see who needs to be peeled?)

I mean, a lot of people have a severe allergy to warding to maybe that's it?

Niaphim9 votes

People want to do something themselves, not to be a walking and warding extra inventory space for the adc. This is coming from a support main (at least I used to be a support main). Playing any other role except support feels like entirely different game where you can actually interact with enemies. Warding is ok, I see people warding in every role (ofc, supp and jungle are winners, but it is not really that bad).

Support as a role itself isn't even that hard

You have to protect 4 other people all at the same time using 3/4 the gold they have maybe less depending on the game and your character. It's not an "easy" role by any means. Not extremely hard to learn no, but if you're up in challenger or diamond or something you're going to get absolutely destroyed by the REAL support main you're fighting instead of you who's "learned" support over 20 games and thought you had nothing to worry about.

On my most recent support ranked game (Sona going 0/5/21) I had less gold than the entire enemy team the whole game. I had 4,000+ less gold at the end of the game when we WON than their highest gold member. If you're not used to the role and you're used to mid, or top, or support or jungle. You're going to be working off far less items than usual, with far less power than usual, and far more jobs to do. (Except maybe Jungle he might be more busy than you)

I'm not sure where this opinion is coming from that support "as a role itself isn't even that hard" since you appear to be a midlaner based on your literal entire ranked history ever. But the role is difficult enough that any new person just taking the advice of "Don't get caught out and peel for people" is still going to get curb stomped by an actual support main.

Also the main problem with new support players and warding is they just forget. Unless you've got a hell of a lot of support games you're probably just not going to remember to use your sightstone cause it's just not something you normally do in any other role.

It's not. I play it fairly often, it's not hard at all. Might just be unintuitive for some people.

Weasel Kensei3 votes

Its difficult for some to even understand others are playing the game with them.

Some people are so self-absorbed they cant get out of their own head to "help" someone else achieve something; therefore, supporting is nearly impossible for those people.

Support players here told me that supporting is harder than playing carry

Being GOOD at it is hard yea, but getting down a basic understanding of how to support isn't that hard.

Troll for Trump5 votes

Here's the thing people seem to forget: It's a 2v2 lane.

Knowing how to support isn't good enough, even in something as low as gold.

If you have a "meh" autofilled support or ADC you can bet that they're going to get snowballed if the enemy adc/supp isn't autofilled as well.

Basically, whichever team has the worst autofill (not necessarily worse player; some games you just happen to get the top lane OTP to be autofilled to supp in your promos and that's just coincidence).

It's basically like last season's DynaQ. Whoever gets the worst premade/autofilled/troll/afk/flamer/player, etc.

It's been like this since the beginning, and it always will be.

It's not 1v1, it's a 5v5. Yes, the team can help you, but they can hold you back and lose you games.

Flawless Fetus16 votes

Eh. Adc is so much more mechanically demanding, but support is more mentally demanding. They're responsible for protecting 4 people other than themselves.

Mast3rShake2 votes

Wrong, as a support in solo que you are responsible for protecting whoever is going to carry you. If it is the adc, keep them alive, but if it your mid laner you keep them alive and let your other teammates fend for themselves. You protect whoever is fed and can carry through vision and peel. That is your one job.

If you "suck" at support just play Leona. If someone jumps on your carry you have 3 ways to peel for them. Just remember to be a Leona hat peels, not one that engages :)

Sexy Fish Nami3 votes

This is true to a certain degree.

While I agree that you need to peel for the one that has the best carry potential in the team, no matter how good they are, remember that you cant really 2v5. What I do tell people is that its good to have a certain focus on your carry and peel him, but always remember that every person in your team is, well, part of your team and they all can get some of your help.

And if you suck at support, leona isn't the best choice since if you fight someone who has the slightest idea how to fight against her, you're screwed. Janna is a much better choice of a support for someone who sucks in the support role.

OHminus5 votes

Janna : press E

To anyone who gets autofilled support, please just play janna. It's really impossible to screw up on her.

Veltox2 votes

If i had a item 3301 for every Janna failing flash ult i could buy Riot office.

OHminus4 votes

There's really no point in flash ult though (jannasec). All Janna has to really do is to stay in the backline, press E, Q to disengage, and ult + redemption if someone's low to play her at an acceptable level.

There's obviously more advanced mechanics, but they're not really necessary to someone who's been "autofilled"

Narvuntien26 votes

People need to learn to play support....

Although to be fair if I ever got autofilled to top lane I'd be in big trouble... hides under tower whille lane opponent gets massively farmed

Jabbabax3 votes

Same here except with adc. I suck ass at adc. Probably because I refuse to play the "popular picks" like Vayne and Lucian, but ridiculous mobility is the only way an adc can prevail in this season. Oh well... I hope to see Sivir soon.

TotalJerk7 votes

I just hate being ADC because I basically know how many times I'm going to die in champ select.

SH Azykan3 votes

sivir is pretty good into both lucian and vayne though, she struggles vs caitlyn and to an extent ezreal because they outrange her, but she gets to be the aggressor in the lucian and vayne matchup if she wants to. she also has all of the wave management tools in her favor.

TotalJerk2 votes

That's just losing lane top in general. You don't get to farm anymore when you're behind against the likes of Riven, Renekton, Fiora, Darius, Illaoi, and Pantheon.

Morgana "drops w on the minion wave" oh you wanted to try and zone me? lol

50000000000000001 votes

Lane pushes well shit

SH Azykan2 votes

she walks up and drops another w she clears waves, they reset, its the entire thing morg top does

RainXBlade1 votes

Then eventually, the top laner calls for a gank and Morg dies even with her E because she's very immobile.

TotalJerk3 votes

She also has a root and a shield that gives her CC immunity. It's a lot harder to gank Morgana top than you'd think. That's why she was actually meta in the competitive scene for a while.

RainXBlade1 votes

Until Riot nerfed her because Riot loves balancing the LCS but not the community itself lol.

But to be serious, was Morgana top that un-interactive and strong?

Troll for Trump5 votes

Yes.

All ranged champs top have historically been horrible to play against as a melee, and is often one-sided.

Let's look at the list:

Quinn Teemo Gnar Graves Kayle Morgana Jayce Lissandra Lulu Vayne

Only way for the top laners to deal with ranged champs if they're immobile (most of them are in relativity to the ranged champs) is through:

-a ton of tankiness -a ton of mobility

If they get access to those tools, it ends up being fine for top laners, because they don't have to deal with the ranged top bullsht anymore. But it's horrible for other people because now they either have an unkillable monster or hussein bolt Darius after their ass.

Ranged champs really shouldn't be top.

RainXBlade2 votes

Hussein Bolt Darius

Ghost + Stormraiders Darius has got to be some of the worst things I've ever faced in League. It's like Tank Yasuo all over again but Darius tanks and moves faster than him.

But yeah on the topic of ranged top laners. Yes, they're so unbearable to fight against unless you're someone like Yasuo or just another ranged top laner.

But just to ask though, even though ranged top laners are strong, how come they're not being picked into the LCS anymore? I'm just curious considering that they can dominate any possible match up at top.

Troll for Trump2 votes

LCS wants to pick more early-game teambased champs, and most of the ranged top laners don't really fit that.

Lissandra does, which is why you occasionally see her picked.

Quinn has early game but her teamfight is crp.

Gnar was picked a LOT, but Riot nerfed him as a result. He's still great cuz of his mega ult.

Teemo has no teamfight

idk about Graves

Kayle isn't the best teamfighter. She's more of "im the solo carry, get me fed and I'll kill everything." She just offers mostly dps (besides her ult). Not as impactful in teamfights as Shen, Maokai, or Naut.

Morg supp is generally better than Morg top

Jayce's teamfight is weak, because all he can do is poke with QE (and maybe go OOM because people don't get tear on him anymore). He can still blow people up, but, because he's squishy, he's just as susceptible to being blown up himself.

Lulu got nerfed out of solo lane, but if she returned, they'd prob pick her. She's supporing rn.

Vayne is another weak teamfighter, but her dps is great. It's like Kayle.

So what does LCS pick in top lane?

Shen's ult is really good for team LC$ plays. GP's ult gives him global and teamfight presence, as well as scaling well. His ult's great though Gnar is still picked, but not as much as he used to be. Great teamfight changing ult. Liss's ult can either save herself or take an enemy out of the fight for a few seconds. She also has great AoE utility Vlad's AoE Ult. I forgot to mention him on the list of ranged top laners earlier Rumble's AoE ult. Maokai's ult and lockdown Looks like Illaoi was picked once, and she's a great teamfighter for obvious reasons I forgot to mention Ryze earlier as well, but he has his ult, and is oppressive to lane against.

The exceptions are: Fiora, Irelia, Jax, Trundle, Olaf, Camille Camille was just THAT good at the time. Trundle's an anti-tank, so he's probably a counterpick.

Fiora, Irelia, and Jax.

TotalJerk4 votes

Between Black Shield and Dark Binding Morgana does not give a shit about overextending.

RainXBlade4 votes

She has her limits though. Don't forget that. Not to belittle Morgana, but just saying because she's fairly simple.

Get rid of autofill

chipndip12 votes

Then who supports?

Im A Jayce God3 votes

People who actually know how to play support. So enjoy your 8 minute queues, id rather wait longer than have to have a useless support autofilled vs a support main.

chipndip14 votes

You KNOW Riot's not doing that, so enjoy your auto-fill.

The King Discord9 votes

another reason why people hate support is this

support gets adc fed and adc carries support gets no credit and the adc gets all the credit

adc feed and support trying every thing to keep them alive support is to blame and its not the adcs fault and the sup gets reported for feeding

support blocks blitz hook to prevent the adc from geting hooked at last teamfight and lose the game support gets the blame for the loss for protecting the adc from the hook

support misses adc with skillshot and hits and kills minion adc goes stop stealing my cs or i afk which makes the support play extremely passive so the adc does not afk in fear of taking 1 cs from the adc and then the adc threatens to afk if support does not play agressive

Karfuss7 votes

Autofill has no place in ranked. It's a cheap cop out to keep queues short.

I believe I speak for the vast majority that: better quality games > longer queue times.

Lauchmelder1 votes

I would wait 5 extra minutes to only get mid, but not the 30+ minutes we would start to see after a while of having no autofill.

Karfuss2 votes

5 extra minutes maximum would be the realistic end. 30+ minute queues would not happen, even at down time.

MatthewRT21 votes

the reason autofill was added was because you'd either have a 30-40 min que or you'd see a gold support on one team in a high diamond game

Karfuss5 votes

30-40 minutes would never happen. Ever. There isn't only one support player at any one time that needs to finish a game before other games begin.

Now the latter could be a valid concern, and why Riot really need to start making the Support role fun for more people.

MatthewRT21 votes

Have you never watched a high diamond to low challenger player stream? People were having 30-40 minute que times, it happened and that is why the system has been implemented.

Lauchmelder2 votes

You think.

If there are a thousand tops, mids, junglers and ADCs and only 400 supports then the first 200 games would Pop instantly.

The other 600 people would have to wait until supports finish their games and queue up again.

Aka the second batch (players 400-800) would have to wait for 20-70 minutes. The third batch has a 40-140 minute timer etc.

Queues would jam.
