these cho'gath changes are amazing, thank you riot

Cho'Gath Rupture (Q) : Mana cost lowered from 90 to 60. Damage changed from [80/135/190/245/305 to [80/135/190/245/300].

Feral Scream (W) silence duration changed from 1.5/1.625/1.75/1.875/2 to 1.6/1.7/1.8/1.9/2.

Vorpal Spikes (E) [reworked] "Mana Cost: 30 at all ranks Cooldown: 8/7/6/5/4
Cho'gath's next 3 basic attacks launch spikes that deal 20/35/50/65/80 (+30% AP) plus X% (4% + 0.5% per Feast stack) of enemies' maximum health as magic damage and apply a 30/35/40/45/50% slow, decaying over the next 1.5 seconds."

the mana change on Q is nice and i'm pretty sure there was an indicator change, feels like i'm more accurate with it. W stronger at level 1, too

the E change is fantastic, opens up so many alternate builds, makes him feel like a carry again. thank you so much, can't wait for him to come back into the meta

edit: look at this nice animation, too

THATS a lot of damage on his e. holy shit.

like 6 stacks alone makes 7% x 3 max health damage added. and ive had casual games where i racked up 20 stacks. thats actually crazy.

the way he can lead his e into a q over minions for a trade with that is actually bonkers.

yeah he feels great to play on pbe

i'm happy as heck about this, cho was one of my favorites in season 4/5, good to see him getting modernized

i really should apply for an account there more often.

but unless its certain champions that are seeing changes, im usually not interested. only problem with that is, that you dont know which champions are getting buffs before it actually happens and the pbe cycle already started.

this cycle would have been amazing to playtest despite the lag from eu.

i usually don't bother unless something to a champ i like comes up, so i've been on it more than live this week

i'm really pleased with next patch overall, seems like it's going to make a lot of champs viable all at once. no idea if it'll actually shake up the meta but just having them be playable is enough for me

up until recently i haven't liked season 7 much, but if riot puts the same care and effort into making other neglected champs good again (sivir, naut, ezreal, voli just for starters) i think league will make a really nice turnaround.

the only problem i see is that buffing adc usually only ends up cycling them through 3 top picks, while the rest is basically never picked.

i want sivir in particular because she works amazing with my melee champs

i blame the poor adc balance on items. making them all want crit and focusing on rightclicks makes it hard to justify not picking the best rightclick

well, thats kindof an issue with their entire playstile. lethality or crit. theyre all usually focused on right clicks. and those item builds also push each other out.

you eithr have early/midgame marksmen stacking armor pen being on top of the other ones, or you have crit marksmen being more effective.

the entire class is weird. its just an effect of all of them being crammed into bot lane.

you can see how other lanes are far more diverse in their picks, because of how may different types of champions are viable there. sure, sometimes you have phases too where like 2 or 3 mid laners absolutely dominate and crowd out other picks. same for top lane. but those are mostly limited phases, where its ALWAYS the same on bot lane.

Big Lincoln1 votes

we could bring back on-hit builds too

riot needs to figure out how to make the ranged vs melee interactions less awful first, though. i doubt they'd go the dota route and just slash their early base stats to compensate for the level 1 poke

Big Lincoln1 votes

btw lethality garen just keeps getting better, they're adding even more dmg to duskblade and more lethality too

so far i think i have 2 build paths that you could go with him (excluding the stoneplate R cheese)

item 3078 item 3748 item 3053 for maximizing your burst vs squishies

item 3027 item 3151 for burning down enemy tanks

probably the best change is now he doesn't need Rylai's, so that's just a free item slot you can dedicate to more AP if you're mid lane mage'gath or a tank/hybrid item for any other build. I think his % values scale too hard when snowballing, but that could probably be adjusted either by lowering the base value or slightly worsening the scaling

i always preferred to make use of his massive base health thanks to his stack mechanic and get big ticket resistance items on top of some ap/hp.

item 3027 item 3152 item 3053 item 3025 item 3065 item 3193 item 3083

and similar builds. steraks is situational in tha build. the gauntlet because its cheap cdr and spirit visage, because it increases his passive sustain.

i usually do the item 3083 item 3193 when i really want to go for the cheese and maximize the ult damage.

Big Lincoln1 votes

right, i do them separately

both builds i usually top off with something like item 3110 item 3065 and then either item 3143 or item 3512 if i need to cover all my bases

I think if Cho'Gath can make it to and stay within melee range to abuse you with E, then he deserves to beat the crap out of you. Well done, Riot.

I think if Cho'Gath can make it to and stay within melee range to abuse you with E, then he deserves to beat the crap out of you. Well done, Riot.

he doesnt need to get into melee range of you.

didnt you watch the video? the spikes have decent range. all he has to do is hit a minion at the right angle to hit you with them. they also have a pretty broad hitbox.

its exactly the same how cho pokes right now in lane. he throws the spikes in your direction over a minion.

i honestly think the fact that the ability slows when not used in melee range is a problem, since hes going to be an absolute pain in the ass to deal with. his combo is going to be almost unavoidable.

he just needs to hit you somehow with the area of the spike effect which isnt hard, to lead it into a full combo with q, silence and feast. its not the same as a sion e that has a much more narrow hitbox and can be dodged.

they should restrict the slow and the % health damage to the direct target of his auto attack. otherwise laning against him is going to be brutal.

Profirix1 votes

I would wait and see. If anything they can lower the slow amount. You seem to forget that he has to have a target to melee in order to apply the spikes. I don't know if you have ever played Vi and tried to hit a target with E behind your primary target; it is actually pretty difficult. Either way, Vorpal Spikes also now has a cooldown and a mana cost. There is plenty of trade-off potential and balance levers Riot can mess with to balance it.

So I can farm 200 stacks and oneshot everyone? nice

Nevrankroaton4 votes

I personnaly think, as someone who played a lot of chogath back in the time, that it is indeed pretty massive.

At first I was going to say how the Q mana buff was kinda insane but then I remembered that his E has now a mana cost, still it is very useful that this spell is a low mana cost. I am not sure they will keep it as it seem very strong (like okay it has delay but 60 mana for 300 dmg with knock up and then a slow coming in AOE? XD No way).

The W is QoL change but it is still strong (and like... 1,6 sec silence at lvl 1 man).

The new E is so strong I can't believe it will be live like that XD So he gain a 240 base dmg (cool) AA enhancer with 0,9 AP ratio scaling (VERY strong), with possibility of having 2,4 sec CD on it with 40 CDR. It stack with feast stack meaning it can easily go for 8% maximum health every hit. It freaking SLOW meaning you can try to combo Q after they are slowed. It make synergy better with sheen and its component.

... It is kinda insane XD It make him such a freaking threat up close now as he has scaling dmg with E, it allow him to trade, to combo, to set-up gank and also to make his gank even deadlier. It make him strong as a tank, as full AP, as AP bruiser and you can even enjoy some stupid onhit AS stuff like back in the day.

I can't think he won't be strong after these changes, at least in soloQ. It can make him the new top tank meta.

Can't wait to lane against him :

E through minions > guaranteed Q+W

Cho'gath is a uber raid boss jugg. RESPECT THE GATH.

nice table3 votes

it seems like riot really wants to make cho more and more unfun to play against, don't really like that but he will never be viable anyways so its whatever i guess.

Jet Sett3 votes

He'll always be unfun to play against, he's got the cc of a tank and damage of a slightly down-on-their-luck mage. But his burst on squishies is painful regardless of what he builds, and his Q is almost guaranteed if he places it properly contrary to the many that say it's "SO EZ LUL TELEGRAPHS" it's pretty good for catching someone and bringing them out of position.

all you really need is a item 3748 if you want a scaling on-hit

i'm really enjoying magic pen bruiser, too item 3151 works so nice with the % damage on E now

Do you build any attack speed to apply those 3 hits on E faster or is it unnecessary?

nothing outside of runes, but cho has pretty decent atk speed base if i remember right

I'm so happy to see these changes coming to reality. Cho'Gath has been my favorite champ since I started playing, and is still my favorite champ (now only one token away from mastery 7 but I'm slamming my head against a wall going 13/2 most of the time and only getting A+ and S-).

I do honestly wish they could 'directly' buff his Q to make it easier to land, but the changes to E are certainly a great to thing to have, and I wish I had access to the PBE so I could test these out for myself.

Oh, I just want to kiss the person who ever thought of these changes.

I played Cho yesterday. Was his E sound changed? It sounded different for some reason. Cho's new animation look nice. His particles on the other hand...

W is stronger ranks 1-4 btw, and only has the same silence duration only at rank 5, so it's definitely a buff.

Bardcookie1 votes

My question is...hows the new E gonna interact with Battlecast Prime Cho?

Rockm Sockm1 votes

Cho gets more attention and more pointless buffs. He still going to be a noob stomper.

They constantly look for ways to buff and dumb down infinite scaling champs.
