Gangplank needs new passive

Gangplank's players do not use his passive. They don't proc it melee. Can we move some of his strength to his passive, like this was made with Xerath (he needs to AA to get mana, and enemies can reach him, similar situation with Ziggs)?

I dont think you realize how much damage that passive does in a fight.

item 3078 item 3031 (95AD) + 15.3AD from runes for a total of 110.3. So at Level 11 his passive would be dealing 240.3 TRUE Damage. So in a fight if you proc the first passive then proc it 3 times from barrels you're dealing 961 TRUE Damage. Not all the time you'll get that, but 240 TRUE damage per proc is litterally getting free ignites nevertheless the free movement speed you get for kiting

Just because "a number of Gangplank players" dont use it effective or right, doesnt mean its useless or a bad passive. Gangplank is just one of those champs that require a good amount of practice with and even then some.

Full AD GP don't go melee. It's a glass cannon build, why they should risk just for 240 damage? Especially if they have IE and Trinity on 11 level (means GP is nicely fed).

His passive is completely busted.. Its a free ignite

But it's not really useful in teamfights. full AD Gangplank won't go into melee range in a teamfight.

GP doesn't want to be melee in teamfights in general.

So his passive is unusable in teamfights? So it's useless half of game? That's what I meant!

A lot of champions don't work in teamfights. Besides he has teamfight potential anyway.

A Gp build like this can be in an average teamfight, kill 1 or two squishies and still get out alive. item 3078 item 3031 item 3047 item 3068 item 3065 item 3143

I usually build more damage on GP. Granted I don't play him much anymore (not that I don't like him, I just don't pick him up much).

TTK Dreadnought1 votes

Yea, its not a bad thing. But his barrels already ignore 40% armor and add that to crits, the true damage passive and his ult. He becomes stupid good when you build a little damage and then tank.

Gangplank [Boots] item 3078 item 3031 item 3046 item 3053 item 3026

I tend to prefer something along these lines when I play him. I think it's a decent mix of survivability and damage.

TTK Dreadnought1 votes

Personally i would skip on the item 3026 if i was doing a more aggressive build like that. item 3812 item 3143 item 3068 item 3742 item 3083 item 3071 item 3748 Just seem like better alternatives.

Honestly, I just like the survivability on guardian's Angel.

Not only does the item provide good resistances (to work with your health and heal), the revive on the item will give you an extra life during a critical fight (when you can be hard enough to kill the first time) and make the enemy team less likely to focus you down.

Combining it with Sterak's Gage can make you rather annoying to kill.

Putting both on Sion is hilarious.

EndlessSorcerer1 votes

I like the idea of Frozen Mallet on Sion rather than Sterak's Gage. While you don't have a shield, your autoattacks slow the target which makes it easier to land your abilities and makes your passive a thing of terror.

Sometimes for shits and giggles I get all three jorem fist items, GA, an attack speed item, and go HAM.

Fighter/Juggernaut Sion is actually pretty damn powerful if he is allowed to keep hitting you. The problem is that he's much squishier that way with barely any resistances. So only done if the team already has a tank and they need some surprising damage.

I used to do this with devourer sometimes. It was hilarious and the attack speed really did seem to make him flow better.

Too bad sion's health loss during his passive is exponential. otherwise it would be funny to watch a sion build comepletely around his passive by building AS/Crit/Lifesteal/AD

TTK Dreadnought1 votes

I never said it was full AD GP. He only needs 2 AD items then he can build tank. I also used level 11 as a halfway point because its illogical for him to have it before his "mid-game"

dEAdbUs1 votes

Right, Trinity and IE are not full AD. Because they have so many tanky stats.

I really don't think he has a bad passive. True damage on hit plus 30% movement speed is pretty good.

Ralanr1 votes

Didn't you just ask this?

dEAdbUs1 votes

Didn't you start to write about barrels, while topic was about passive? So I had to remove everything except words about passive.

Ralanr1 votes

Well his barrels activate his passive. A common tactic for taking towers is to use a barrel to proc his passive so he can take them faster.

So good GP players should be using his passive a lot.

dEAdbUs1 votes

Just for towers? Melee proc means that Riot wanted to add some risk into GP's gameplay, just like with Xerath. But comparing to Xerath in most situation procing GP's passive in melee doesn't worth that risk.

I use his passive in lane on the enemy

dEAdbUs1 votes

Most players don't. They just proc Grasp of Undying with Q.
