How do you support carries that aren't carrying?

Subject. I could be tanking everything and healing a million health a second and STILL it's not good enough because the carries are running in circles only to die of a heart attack or something.

How do you play support when the carries aren't doing their jobs?

Roaming and feeding other people. Eventually, there's little you can do. just like it's hard to carry 1v5 without people helping you. Eventually, there's little you can do to carry yourself unless you're a carry support.

Nah the ADC will still int and spam surrender the entire game.

Leagues toxic asf.

Then your fed player (let's say is a mage) has been killing bot lane so many times that he gets a free banshees + mercs or something and becomes irrelevant.

You play Braum and take all the kills as my supp does.

If an adc is that bad or that far behind, it's often better to run to other lanes and make plays. Of course since you are having this problem and willing to ask... you're probably in lower elo. Which means people often freak out and yell at you for roaming even if it can actually be a good thing. So this can backfire depending on how the other team reacts and if your team is willing to work with you to make your ganks on mid and top or jg invades work. If you have teammates willing to play along, go for it.

Who needs an adc anyway? Bard item 3098 item 3151 item 3165 item 3135

  • enough dmg to eliminate squishies
  • enough kiting power and dps to deal with tanks and most bruisers
  • king of roams
  • weak to assassins but who isn´t

that way you can do 80% of your adc´s job while still offering decent engage potential, giving you the opportunity to be proactive rather than reactive and if you catch your enemies just right with your ult it can improve your chance of winning tremendously.

honorable mention to Zilean

  • more supportive with reliable utility
  • scales super hard and deals crazy dmg late game

But whatever you do stay away from enchanters. They can be impactful in their own way, but their numbers are quite low right now and you are completely at the mercy of your teammates.

Bard item 3512 item 3153 -enough damage to drop squishy. -kiting power to deal with bruisers and tanks. -Great roams AND item 3512 applys split pressure to enemy objs. -item 3512 can function like a ward on steroids for the vision it provides with voidborn. -enough AS to keep your passive constantly applied to a target. -durable enough to not die to assassins instantly. -you can stun players on item 3512 . Surprisingly useful to peel under pressure. Or make a R cast into a instant Q stun in parts of the map lacking terrain or enemy units. -you can cheese item CDR runes and get 2 Portals out at a time.

To win consistent as a support, you have to take matters into your own hands and carry yourself. Until the meta changes, pick mage supports.

Brand, Zyra, Vel'koz, Xerath, Veigar, Lux

Saying "roam and get others fed" is like saying "just dodge the Nid spear" it's an answer that means nothing. You can't guarantee your roam will be successful and you also risk your carry dying and giving up free plates or turrets.

If your carry is playing poorly but not tilted or toxic do not abandon them, stay with him and protect him while looking for free damage if you're a mage support or waiting for jungler if you're an engage support. Lord help you if you're a utility support, all the gods have abandoned you.

Anyway, roam only when it's safe and communicate with pings or text that you're doing it. Don't assume mid will just catch your drift and be there for you. Roam into enemy jjungle with your jungler if he's going that way but don't ask him to, he can be making gold elsewhere while you turtle with your carry instead.

Use all your wards plus a pink once you've lost your first turret, and just let you carry soak up the free gold and xp, stay with him but keep an eye on your mid in case you need to head over. Rarely in bronze/unranked will bot switch to top after taking the turret but if they do leave your carry one time to help top. You, your jungler, and top should be enough to shut that push down. They will not return if you kill them both, most likely.

Good luck and it goes without saying you should def pick up the high damage/impact supps and leave enchanted behind. Ardent meta had them all gutted.

Play Brand, I am a Morg main, I can carry games quite often as her. Don't play actual support, there is 0 point. Just Play and build damage, that is where the game is at. Also I recommend a support with CC, that's what I like morg, lots of damage and CC.

You don't.

We have mages sometimes down there nowdays. This yordle is vipZiggs for example.

You either:

  1. Become the Carry: Build Damage on supports that support that kind of playstyle: Velkoz Brand Zyra Lux Pyke

  2. Choose another Carry: if your ADC sucks, choose the fed midlaner or fed toplaner to give shields to: Janna Lulu Lux Taric Braum

  3. Make Proactive Plays: Make such great plays and decisions that the rest of the team doesn't even have to do any work: Thresh Blitzcrank Bard Nami Morgana

I try number 3 with Taric, and it's hilarious how much better than you people think as if you didn't just make them invincible for half the game.

Go support someone else. Also adapt your build as much as possible. If your ADC sucks maybe that ardent censer isn't that useful, but that twin shadow could help your fed mage to catch someone and annihilate them, or a shurelya could help your fed juggernaut with his movement problems and let him disseminate panic in the enemy team. The best thing is to not give up on negative thoughts and always THINK. Try to analyze the situation and before doing something think why you want to do it and what could happen.

For example your ADC sucks, your mid is even and your top is ahead, drake and herald are both there and everyone is alive in their lane. You are base and your jungler is topside, you see enemy jungler heading botlane.

Imagine what could happen depending on what you do: You go bot, probably you arrive to kiss your ADC goodbye as he dies under turret dived 1 vs 3.. But could you arrive in time? Are you playing champions that could turn the dive around and possibly get a shutdown? (for example a janna with. R up and some mov speed items may be able to arrive in time and save the situation as she's fast and has lots of tools to discourage dives. If your ADC has cc or mobility you may be able to kill someone with turret help). You go top: Your top is fed so you probably can kill the enemy toplane (and your jungler is also there). Does the enemy top have their tp up? If not then it's an assured turret after the kill. Then you could get herald.. But your ADC is also dead now so enemies will probably get bot turret and drake. Is your herald better than their drake? (what drake was up?) could the herald be used to force another tower should they keep pushing bot? Even in the worst possible scenario (you trade a kill a tower and herald for a kill a tower and an infernal drake + half inner tower ) is this still your best option possible? Even if they gain more you gain at least SOMETHING, which you wouldn't if you just walked bot to look at your adc's corpse or even worse die yourself while trying to save him.

In general, especially as a support, you have to try to win with your head rather than your hands. Also, your teammate may not use your wards but YOU do. And everyone can notice his champ spampinged. Try to make catches happen as even the enemies will often be found aimlessly walking in the jungle alone ..

Basically most answers are "Go support someone else" but tbh that makes me feel a little bad for the ADC.

Basically most answers are "Go support someone else" but tbh that makes me feel a little bad for the ADC.

You should feel bad about him not being able to Cs properly, manage the wave and look at the map not feel bad because you are doing your job while he can't do his own. You are not the ADC support, you are the team support. If the best way to help the team is letting the ADC on his own then you should do it. As I said before you are not gaining anything looking at his corpse, while you may be able to gain something elsewhere. Leave bot passages well warded so he can retreat if a threat approaches: If he doesn't and die it's not your fault. Just like the jungler rule: Spending time on a loosing lane is NOT a good idea, unless there is a riskless shutdown there. Build wise it's the same thing: You are not helping if you provide buffs to a person that can't use them. An ardent shield isn't making a half item ADC win against a one item and half ADC . Your ADC may feel bad about it but at the end of the game he gets lp too if you win , even if he was a sack of potatoes carried on someone else's shoulder. I main mid and support is my secondary role, that's why I may be more confident with roaming. But even as mid i don't blame the jungler if he abandons me when I'm feeding. I may greatly appreciate a pink so I may escape in time from the 10th gank I received, or a blue buff to sustain waveclear so I don't have to interact with my ahead enemy laner. But I don't want ganks. I get angry if he comes and dies or if he does nothing while I get camped when he could counterjungle or gank somewhere else. Everyone has bad games and sometimes you just have to accept you are a sack needed to be carried. It happens to everyone, your ADCs included

The Highest Noon1 votes

Ehh, I suppose. I guess it's a matter of merely sucking it up and doing what's best.

GreenKnight1 votes

Ensure that your laner doesn't get killed like a jackass in early, and then focus your attention on other lanes and jungle.

Lil Spoon1 votes

as long as you dont play something useless like lux support, your adc wont mind

The Highest Noon1 votes

Hol up what you mean lux support is useless lol She got me a 100% win rate out of bronze with her supporting. Then I started actually supporting recently and boy is it rough when you're not carrying as well.

This is not an either/or arguement.

You are both amazed and dumbfounded. Eventually you become amazed that you're surprised by the shit plays.

Soraka is underrated. If you play her ignoring maxing W, and instead maxing Q or E, you'll find she's an S performer who can outdamage most people in your elo, while also getting 30k heals a game. W leads to soraka dying too much, when overused anyways.

bluegolisano2 votes

Yes, and I usually go full damage because it also makes my healing stupid by the AP scaling.

But still, you make a mistake; Soraka. In Bronze 4.

HELL

Actually Raka is easier to play there. While you have to explain your teammate that he shouldn't cower BEHIND you, enemies often ignore you. I didn't play her from some time and already in gold (still low) I had to run around every fight because people really really badly wanted to kill my ass. In bronze? e,q,w,q,w,w move only to reach low hp allies to heal them. I literally had enemy fighters trying to run my ADC over while I kept healing him and slowing them and they totally ignored me lmao. I suppose they use the. "don't focus the support! " advice literally always

Literally my experience with the game all up to Gold. And that's only the highest I've experienced. I hate when I'm low health while an ally is full health and they just...literally run so far ahead that you might as well stand and die there.

Thats the thing, u were in bronze, i can play thresh jungle with one hand and get out of bronzer

The Highest Noon1 votes

I could play Thresh jungle with one hand and get to Diamon. That's not the point tho lol

I'll have to give Bard a shot when I can afford him with this doofy-ass reward system.

I like how nobody mentions Fiddlesticks. AP/HP with Rylias and he carries hard.
