Rework of Zyra´s passive

(In this thread i am not talking about her current spot and meta etc. It is about Zyra herself, as a champion in the League of Legends)

Hello guys,

in this thread I would like to give some ideas for a reworked "Rise of the Thorns". First of all i love Zyra, she is my most played champion and i can´t stop playing her. I have the opinion her immobility is justified to the damage she can deal in a fight in contrast to other players. And her current spot is ok, although she is outranged by other midlane champions. But, after so many games and in comparism to other champions i feel she lacks personality. If we do not look at visuals, but the abilities themself, she seems to be a mage like others. The only thing which makes her a bit special is her "W". I think she should have something emphasizing her even more as the plantmage. There are just few hidden interactions with Leona, Sion, Karthus and Maokai and the quote: "Our seasons are reversed. My spring, your fall." which make Zyra feel really cool beside gameplay. Although i play her more then other champions, i dont like her voiceover. In comparism to those other champions i see, that many of them are identified due to their passive.

Thresh because of the souls, the chainwarden who executes you with his hook,

Karthus the Deathsinger after his death,

Katarina jumping around after killing an enemy due to Voracity,

Gnar^^,

Soraka the ambulance,

Riven´s blade,

Jinx with her Excitement,

etc.

If we now look at Zyra´s "Rise of the Thorns":

Yes she was a plant before she got that human body and after death she becomes a plant again and shoots thorns. Cool idea. No doubts, that the thorns hurt. But, in my eyes she should have a passive, which stresses her as a plant even more, as she is isolated from others by her lore (except hidden interactions with 4 champions) and (in my opinion) not a great voiceover.

Her current passive has:

Range 1500 Damage: 80 + (20x Level of Zyra) true damage Misslespeed: 1900 Missle width: 70

To make her feel more as a powerfull plant i think she should have different post death abilities, but she is able to use one of them post-death.

Rise of the thorns:

Q: Zyra can damage 1 opponent with grievious wounds dealing 70 + (20x Zyra´s level) true damage over 3 seconds #thorns Range: 750 (thorns moving from Zyra to her foe and surrounding them quickly for the time they are damaging)

W: Zyra pulls Champs around her dead body towards her (something like Diana E without slow) Range: 225 (leaves around her after death, which are pulling champions to Zyra)

E: Zyra summons in a small aoe thorns for 3 seconds and dealing 20 + (8x Zyra´s Level) true damage per second and slowing them for 20% within this area. Range: 700

R: Zyra silences 1 enemy for 1 second and deals 100/150/200 magic damage. That´s what im thinking about when i hear "Strangethorns".

After her death all passives could be visualized around her dead body (thorns surrounding Zyra, the leaves of her w etc.) and only one of these would trigger, depending on which one was casted.

It would be a stronger passive due to situations, however every passive is weaker than her current passive. But my point is, via this new passive you could highlight her as a plant furthermore with more visuals, beside being able to cast an ability on a seed every 10 seconds to grow a plant.

When Riot worked on Azir, they realized he wouldn´t be anything special with his first kits they designed for him. In this thread i would like to give a suggestion how to make Zyra a little more special.

suggestion: as much as i'd love her passive to get reworked (or to have her MS buffed or something), don't post these kind of topics in this period of the year, because no red is gonna read or answer to them because of the holidays

take your time and post it after holidays :)

I don't necessarily like the specific ideas you suggested, but I definitely like the overall idea of different attack options for her passive. It's really weird having 4 different button commands to activate it without any difference between them.

Looking at you too sion.

I hate every single after death passive, as useful as it can be in teamfights my goal has always been and will always be "getting a lot of kills with no or little deaths" so that mean little use of passive for me.

I hate all after death passives..............................except Karthus and Sion(in theory).

With Kog and Zyra, it's very clearly phoned in because they don't want to have to think about giving them a Passive. Atleast with Karthus and Sion it fits them really well.

Well, I personally think that Sion is the first champion who is really justified in having a post death passive, because he is a tank, and his job is to make sure that he dies before anyone else on his team does. That sounded weird... I'll say it like this: His job as tank is to soak all the damage so his allies don't take it, meaning that none of his allies should die before him if he succeeds. Basically, his post death passive means he can tank and defend his team extra long after death by either chasing off an enemy or by making the enemy team refocus him so he cannot just melt a squishy with his % hp damage after death. All other post death passives, whether they make sense thematically or not, just don't seem to really fit in to the champions' roles in the game.

Karthus?

I think Karthus' passive fits his identity as a champion perfectly, but it doesn't quite fit his role as well as sion's does. Under most circumstances, you don't want your mage to go down in the fight. Now, I totally understand that there is a whole different strategy with Karthus, including having his AOE damage melt an area and being able to channel his ult in peace. The only reason I said it doesn't work as perfectly as Sion's is that, If I where designing a mage or carry of any sort now, I would never give them a passive that rewards dying. I'll say it again though, Karthus is a special case where it fits thematically and they made it turn out really well. Zyra and Kog'maw on the other hand make zero sense, but Sion seems like his kit is begging for a post death passive.

I use kog'maw's passive to damage people or get all that juicy farm that I can't eat.

Yeah, once I was going to a lane to stop a push, and got jumped by a zed who 100-0ed me. He was going to keep split pushing, but then I blew up his 20 minion wave with my passive.

The thorns shall rise once again!

I like the idea you have for her E a lot... it might make killing her a tactical decision if she can create a big thorny slow pit for people to get stuck in.
