Controlmages have the same issue Bruisers had until Conqueror was introduced

Like Taliyah going Aery, Viktor going Fleet and Malzahar going almost exclusively Spellbook comes from one major issue. None of them has a Keystone they really want. Its like comparing Yasuo going PTA, Draven going Aery and Fiora going Klepto, before Conqueror is introduced. Real Battlemages/Controlmages/Disrupters lack a real Keystone making everything okayish just by how suboptimal it is.

Like i think you could take Cheap Shot from Domination into Sorcery, tweak it alot and you got a good Keystone for these mages. Like:

Slowing an enemy grants 3-7.5 magicpenetration for 3 seconds, hard cc grants 6-15mpen. The triggering effect does not benefit from this penetration. Ranged bonus: Converts 1-10% of your magicdamage to truedamage.

There are probably more ways to make a controlmage keystone. Instead of buffing the Champions as Riot announced I think giving them a keystone would result in a better gameexperience for mages.

Except control mages are still miles better than non camille bruisers (whos just broken)???

Conqueror is not great outside of trynd and yasuo, conqueror is only truly powerful if you're melee and building crit, because then it can actually scale well, its not good on champs it was supposed to help, like riven or renekton.

This keystone looks really good on control mages, I like it.

However, the true damage part should be removed entirely from the keystone. Instead, just give the keystone more magic penetration (around 3-5) in exchange.

Ranged bonus

LOL

On a serious note though: what mages really lack is not more burst damage (what your keystone essentially promotes with it giving flat pen) but the sustained damage of deathfire touch to burn through tanks that suddenly started appearing in midlane due to the lack of sustained damage of mages.

Control mages have low to moderate cd's on their spells. They also have cc. Thus, comet should be a good option on them. Ap assassins go electrocute for the burst. Control mages who don't like comet or aery could do the same. I think aery should be adjusted and comet could have it's travel speed increased slightly as the game goes on - to make it more reliable later in the game when you land soft cc (slows and stuff).

Control mages have issues yes, but in no way it was as bad as bruisers. First of all, mages are ranged. You could be absolute garbage but in this meta ranged>melee because of the retarded damage output of everything. Second of all, void staff is never a bad choice on mages. Sorcerers boots are also always there. LW isnt a good choice on majority of bruisers, black cleaver alos doesnt work on too many bruisers.

AirKingNeo5/14/2018, 10:50:09 PM4 votes

Most bruisers suck with Conqueror too.

Notice how only Yasuo is the only viable user. Maybe Irelia will see play too, but she's at a 40-60% banrate for a reason.

Yeah not shit. Where's my AOE keystone like deathfire touch that applies moderate persistent damage to multiple targets rewarding zone control?

Every keystone is singletarget/burst (electrocute, predator, comet, aery, press the attack, dark harvest).

7 variations of single target/burst keystones. 0 mult-target/persistent damage keystones for mages. (And don't say comet is mult-target because hitting 2+ targets rarely happens :P)

I dont see the comparison.

Fighters and bruisers needed the rune because they are melee and usually dont have CC to stick near targets, therefore Riot made a rune so that when they DO stick to a fight, they can do serious damage no matter who they are fighting.

Control Mages on the other hand not only have almost every advantage in the game (ranged autos, ranged abilities, great CC, overall good burst and dps for a mage) with the only drawbacks being lack of mobility and tankyness. Since these mages have an easier time "sticking around" because of their sheer CC and range (relatively speaking of course), they really don't need that kind of rune.

And let's face it, control mages are huge balancing nightmares, look at Malzahar who's been continuously nerfed since his initial rework, look at Taliah who is such a huge problem in high elo, look at Lissandra who can't be buffed at all because of her absurd CC.

phase rush is good on battle mages (or at least, the only battle mage i play Vladimir ), and it's getting a buff

anywho, does anyone know of a challenger control mage main who can tell riot to kill themselves?

TwitchInMyPants5/15/2018, 1:57:59 AM1 votes

Honestly any new keystone for Sorcery would make sense

There's two poke runes and a niche movespeed rune. Mages tend to like having tons of damage and AP and only a portion of them like Aery/Comet. The rest are just settling with Unsealed Spellbook which by the nature of Inspiration can work on literally any champ.

Glory975/15/2018, 10:54:51 AM1 votes

As a mage-main, please don't invent a sorcery rune that converts into true damage. This would just make the already op "i-do-dps-mages" Azir Cassiopeia Ryze Anivia just much more broken than they already are, and all other burst oriented mages even worse. The magic pen. sounds interesting though it would definetly have to scale with level, otherwise It's way too op in early game, and useless in late.

Ifneth5/15/2018, 12:44:30 AM1 votes

Yeah, we need a keystone!

SSShutTheDuckUp5/15/2018, 6:28:28 PM1 votes

At least bruisers do not read "you are a bruiser, bruise them", unlike control mages, who have to read "you are a control mage, control them" in chat during every stomp

New Rune: Frost Fire Every 3rd Spell cast deals 2% damage done per/sec for 5s and slows the target by 20%

Sadly champs like MF would get more out of it....

Would need to be something that scales off AP

LordGeovanni5/15/2018, 10:05:37 PM1 votes

You dont need ranged bonus' on runes rather ranged limitations or melee bonus' Range in itself is a bonus.

Arcane Blue Boi5/15/2018, 10:21:10 PM1 votes

Exept control mages dont have a edgy hashinshin on the verge of killing himself screaming and cursing over a videogame because the class he likes isnt the strongest

TeCoolMage5/15/2018, 6:19:01 AM1 votes

I'd really prefer something for catchers and control mages who want to focus on CC rather than more damage, like "Your boots gain an active that makes your slows 50% stronger and your hard crowd control 20% longer 3 min cooldown" or "upon impairing movement via abilities on any amount of targets for a total of 3 seconds, your next hard crowd control is increased by 1 second"

Meep Man5/15/2018, 2:06:58 AM1 votes

There needs to be a Crowd Control focused rune for Spellcasters. Plain and simple.

Im pretty sure only Taliyah is the only zone mage in that list? Malzahar and Vicky are battlemages. Immobile champions who are meant to be in the mid-line.

Regardless... DoT mages need a keystone that WORKS with them and helps make up for the damage they lose to healing. Scorch could easily be that - make it like DFT but only work on abilities and give it a 30s-14s cooldown.

Something like 2-19+0.25AP/0.1bAD magic damage per second for 4 seconds, refreshing when damage from the same skill occurs within the duration? Would make it very usable on a wide array of champions who have low cooldowns - low CD casters of all kinds, including champs like Yasuo and irelia (not that either would take it over conq. but it'd be an option).
