"Why are you so serious dude, its just a game"

Yeah sure, it is just a game, but this being a ranked game, I would assume you play serious, if you don't want to play serious, an option called "normals" exists.

Even if its normals I don't like it when people say stuff like this. It really grinds my gears. Ya this is a video game but that doesn't give you the right to just troll and try to 1v3 because you saw gosu do it. I understand if you messed up. Who doesn't mess up from time to time? Despite whether they admit it or not nobody likes to lose. Why you ask? Simple. It makes you feel inferior. With that being saying these types of things are either high or trolling. Which is still a poor excuse, I seen some high Blitzcrank and they are monsters I have also seen some garbage ones that were supposedly high too. All in all it's a stupid thing to say. Imo.

uhg, in my experience, you don't say this as an excuse for trolling. You say this, because you don't enjoy playing with someone who plays solely to win. Of coarse you always play to win, But if you get that bitter just because your losing, then you probably shouldn't be playing the game, cause you obviously are not enjoying it.

even in ranked, You should make sure your actually having fun playing the game. Personally, can't even think about winning if I'm not having fun.

But I've rarely seen people get that upset over just losing. It's typical as a result of the guy trolling mid when it's already been selected and then running into towers because he didn't get his way. So the whole, "you probably shouldn't be playing because you aren't enjoying it" is meh, since I think those players would be enjoying the game without said troll.

I don't know, Sky made a video about this recently and laid down some real talk, defining how "fun" is perceived in League of Legends. Coming into normal games, playing with some friends, trying some new stuff, having a giggle with the enemy now and then; all of that is great, it helps the community grow and prosper.

Ranked games, on the other hand, are probably not really meant to be "fun" because there is something to be gained and lost, a value based on time invested, if you will. You know that it's going to be a grind. You know grinding that ELO is going to be work. And you know that work is generally not fun. Now if you're playing and you're angry 75% of the time, you probably should re-evaluate why you are playing League of Legends.

However, that does not illegitimize the fact that the mindset in ranked and the mindset in normals should be vastly different. You SHOULD always have the play-to-win mindset going into ranked. You're there for a reason, and that's to get that ELO. Chicks Dig ELO ;D (SaintV/Dyrus bring this back pls). The normals and custom game modes are there for that sole reason to mess around and enjoy the game differently.

Despite you getting upvotes, I tend to disagree. Sure, fun is fun, but it really comes off as an excuse far too often. Normals are for practicing, messing around (not trolling), just playing stress free.

Ranked isn't "just for fun". You go there with the main intent TO WIN, to Climb the ladder. You aren't there just to "have fun". The whole point of it is a more SERIOUS mode for the more competitive player. If you go in, and you want to throw around "don't take it so serious. Just have fun" I don't want to hear that in ranked. I'm there to win FIRST, and if I have fun, that is a bonus, but not the goal in ranked. If your goal in ranked isn't to win FIRST, then don't play ranked please, because I don't want that person in my game ever.

I remember one time I tried to help my jinx out by explaining to her what she can build to survive her lane better (I forget what exactly was going down, but it wasn't fun for her) and she said to me "Mind your own business"

Then I snapped. "Jinx like it or not I'm stuck with your ass for the next 20 minutes and you effect the outcome of MY game. Far as I'm concerned YOU ARE my business."

Jungler was just like "top lanes got a point"

I will gladly tell people this whenever they are being bags of salt or raging or being waaaay too serious about the game. Because, at the end of the day, it's just a game.

If the worst thing that happened to you today is that your collection of pixels died, then today was a pretty good day.

((EDIT: This does not excuse trolling or anything in the slightest, but it's an adequate response to ragers or salty people who think being toxic will solve anything.))

GankhísKhan12 votes

No it is just a game.

Realistically, if you think that.. getting elo is an achievement in life, you need to rethink your life. (Not trying to insult you or undermine you. I'm just saying that your rank is not that really important)

Let me also tell you this. The fact you came over here to complain about it.. means you got emotionally effected by this. Look, I get it. Your rank is a sort of achievement and something that will let you feel accomplished. But please. Life is short, you're going to stress about many more things in life.

  1. Forget about it It's just 1 game. Move on, don't let it ruin your health.
  2. It really is just a game. I like this game and all, but I've had people throw games and I just.. queue up and forget it.
  3. Yes normals exist. Some people actually jump into rank with the mindset that it is normals. That's how I play, and I don't tilt. I don't rage, and I don't stress. Oh boy, I lost 22 LP. Thats okay, I'll queue up again and win a game and gain +22.

Interestingly enough.. how is it that you didn't come onto the forums to post "YES! MY ALLY DID GOOD! I GAINED LP!" Because you're not getting emotionally happy about winning, but you get frustrated about losing. Change your mindset, sit back relax play a game enjoy your time playing and don't worry about elo. You'll climb.

WhereIsMyBeefalo2 votes

OP never talked about elo, nor this game affecting his emotions in any way. And how in the earth can you know what OP feels after a game. Are you a wizard or his mom?

Literally OP just said, "if you play ranked, play serious", what exactly means "serious for OP? idk, maybe he means, not trolling, not flaming, not feeding, not negative actitude etc. if that the case, i agree even for normals, now if he means "tryhard" just because is ranked", then NO, lol is just an stupid game and i play how i like, sometimes i feel like playing just because im boring and want to lose time and idc if win or lose, and sometimes i feel like my life depends of winning that game...

i've never gonna understand why people want to play every ranked game like if is the last one, and i never gonna understand why people care to much about an just stupid game

Xonra6 votes

{quoted}

NO, lol is just an stupid game and i play how i like

Then stay out of ranked for the sake of us all. If that's your attitude, just play another game. I'm sorry but it isn't just about you, it is 4 other people, and 5 on the enemy team. So you play how the game is meant to be played (and ranked is meant for more serious play). It isn't to "play how you like, cause lawl".

That kind of attitude puts people on tilt, and loses you games for no reason. IF you don't want to climb in ranked and take it seriously, that's perfectly fine, but then don't play ranked. You can't just "play less serious" while choosing to play in the more serious queue. That is some special logic right there.

If you don't care, don't understand, don't want to do the same, that is perfectly fine, and I have no problem with that, but again, don't come into the ladder where people ARE taking it serious, and then faff about going "I don't get it, why you so serious, I do what I want". Stay out of ranked if you don't want to take it that serious. No one is making you play ranked, and no one wants you in the game rolling around mocking them for taking it as seriously as some people do.

SaltyKracka11 votes

Actually, keep the shit out of normals too. If you think losing a game is fun, then you should go play Dwarf Fortress.

Pr0Meister3 votes

True dat. I don't know about those "it's just normals" guys but I find it somewhat hard to have fun when the Zed you fed with your quirky mid ap Quinn build instagibs me the moment I dare leave the range of my tower.

Losing isn't fun, yo. Not in normals, not in ranked.

Dextix LT7 votes

I mean, there is no difference between ranked and normals right now. So....

Electric Buyers6 votes

Not defending the trolls, but if you treat it like a game at all times, and are less serious in general, you will play better, even in ranked.

The trick to ranking up is to just play ranked with a grain of salt and a sense of humor.

Adfitbv3 votes

Can totaly agree.being to serious will actualy lower your chance to win cuz you will enter tilt a lot faster.

AninLegions7773 votes

Lool. Tell that to the high elo players that tilt on stream. Tilting is normal in competitive sports. Check it. You can't be losing something and be "okay" with it. You will be sad/frustrated/angry or maybe all three together. So when I see someone flaming, I keep quiet and try to do my best.

General Levi2 votes

Dynamic queue didn't delegitamize ranked, the community did by assuming everyone is boosted this season. This community are the ones turning ranked into norms.

The person who flames the most is usually the person who believes the most strongly that they can win - of course they may not understand how exactly they can earn the victory but the belief is there. Which is so many times more valuable than people who feed or are a part of a team with a feeder who just shut down and do nothing constructive.

I go into every game believing I can win. I watch the occasional stream and browse reddit or the boards every few days; literally the bare minimum to keep myself up to date and continue the learning process. I hold all my allies to this standard - it's not hard to ask that your allies put in the same effort you are since you're all working toward a shared goal.

League isn't just a game for most people. It's a stress reliever, a fun experience, and many other things. Rarely will you find someone having as much fun losing as they would if they were winning and all you people who claim otherwise and just throwing dirt on the mirror to avoid the frustration and disappointment loss brings to us.

Eevee In A Jar3 votes

There's a difference between believing you can win and flaming. People who say nothing at all and seemingly doesn't care also believes they can win too. Just because you wear your emotions on your sleeves doesn't make you special.

Okay... and I get what you are saying. A sport, by definition, has to be physically demanding. I'm going off of the textbook definition from merriam-webster. So technically, it isn't a sport, nor will it ever be unless the definition is changed. It is a video game. It may see a lot of publicity, but that doesn't make it a sport.

If curling can be a sport, I see no reason why League cannot be a sport .

mikemcparty1 votes

Because league doesn't require any level of physical exertion. Here is the definition of a sport.

sport spôrt noun

  1. an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment.

Like I said, league is missing half of that definition. It is not a sport and won't ever be unless the definition of sport is changed.

There is a dog championship every year for best looking dog, and that pretty much entails just petting the dog and keeping it healthy, and breakfast can be a sport, have you seen master chef or hells kitchen? Shits tough

mikemcparty1 votes

Yes, the dog championship is not a sport. I have also seen master chef and Hell's Kitchen. Both are not sports. I could research a list of sports that are recognized as such if you would like? Or you could do a little bit of work on your own.

StoneyBaloney5111 votes

we can all interpret the definition how we want.im a gym freak and i would consider league more of a sport then power lifting, power lifting does not require skill. i power lift with almost identical form to an Olympic lifter, however they can lift more because they train longer and harder. but it is still missing one of your key elements to being a sport yet it is recognized as a sport in the Olympics

mikemcparty1 votes

Powerlifting does in fact require skill. There is a form that you had to learn to be effective at it and not injure yourself. There is also a physical component. Powerlifting, at it's element, is physically demanding. League is like chess, there is strategy and it is difficult to truly master, but there is no physical aspect. Therefore, it cannot be considered a sport. I'm going strictly by a definition...

just to end this argument look it up, the united states government recognizes esport professionals as pro athletes. edit here is a link http://www.forbes.com/sites/insertcoin/2013/07/14/the-u-s-now-recognizes-esports-players-as-professional-athletes/#49200f6b691d

Even in the article, they say there is no physical component of esports. They classify the players as "athletes" strictly so they can play internationally. There is nothing in the article listing esports as an actual sport. So, like I said, esports may be competitive and may have a large following with a lot of money involved. However, that doesn't make it a sport. Less than 25% of the population recognize it as a sport. Around the same portion of people recognize chess as a sport.
