Stop Confusing "Playing Badly" with "Trolling"

A lot of people seem to think that because someone is playing badly they are trolling. They convince themselves it must be on purpose, and often they take it as a direct affront against them (thus they get toxic toward the other player).

NEWSFLASH: The world doesn't revolve around you. Matchmaking isn't perfect, and people have different skill levels. And everyone, regardless of skill, has bad games. Very, very few people intentionally play badly. And the few cases people DO intentionally play badly, they are likely provoked by someone being passive aggressive toward them for their previous un-intentional bad play.

Trolling and having a bad game/being a bad player are not the same thing. Almost everyone who seems to think so (not coincidentally) have their own large share of mistakes as players, and would be better off focusing on improving themselves than trying to rationalize the bad play of others (by saying "oh they must be a troll").

There is a line between playing poorly and just being brain drad stupid. A legit inting troll who runs down lane and feeds 0-15 is JUST AS DAMAGING to the enjoyment and experiance of the game as someone who is going 0-15 in lane just because he is "having a bad game".

That player who is "Just having a bad game" is just as bad as an intentional feeder imo. He may not be intentionally doing it but he is ruining the experience of the game for 4 other people because he has turned his brain off.

It'd be nice if people also stopped assuming that something which isn't endorsed by a streamer or pro player isn't good acceptable, just because you're having a bad game with it.

Oh 60% win rate on AP Varus, well then expect ~40% of your games to have your team raging and calling you a troll all game.

it goes both ways.

when there is someone pushing bot with vision everywhere and we ping 5 people coming for him 30 times for about 10 seconds and he still dies, thats trolling.

Sure, as long as they don't "play bad" in my team. (if they are bad players they shouldn't be in my division)

Maybe one day will be harder to climb and monkeys wont hit high divisons with a negative winrate. (i hope)

I think my pet peeve is when you are playing ranked and you have a duo where the skill gap between the two people are VERY noticeable. For me it usually seems to happen with a Mid and ADC combo. You will have one that absolutely crushes their lane, and the other will be dominated and make mistakes that are obvious. My PSA would be "Please do not bring your terribly overmatched friend into a ranked game with you."

I think it's more often that players choose to play badly that makes them into trolls than anything else. Yes, there are a lot of horrifically bad players out there. But some people are obviously knowing what they're doing when they're doing it. I recently had a Kayle support that was supporting our top lane assassin from the beginning of the game instead of our bottom lane marksman. Assassin didn't ask for help and the Kayle was bullying the marksman in chat.

Usually when I say someone is trolling it's because there's a 90% chance they're doing so.

There is a lot of underhanded ways to troll.

A lot of times when people call out people as trolls, it is because it is obvious.

Ex. Diamond losing to Bronze 5. You can have a bad game...

To a degree.
