Riot, I don't think you actually understand your game when reading the reason for your Jayce nerfs

"For a guy so strong when it comes to long-range combat, it doesn't make the most sense that he should blow you up in close-quarters without the use of his hammer. "

You do understand that the most devastating combo was the hyper-charge carrying over to hammer form?

You do understand that was the main way every Jayce player blows up priority targets?

You do realize that by nerfing hyper-charge you give people LESS reasons to go in hammer form and not more, because the hammer form spells aren't that bursty in general?

You do realize that by nerfing hyper-charge, you instead opt Jayce to stay away more often because you just nerfed his melee all-in?

Do you?

And strong at long-range combat? Sure, in mid-game, but unlike his AP counterparts, his poke actually becomes less useful in late-game, since armor is more plentiful. Something that I also doubt whether you understand or not as well.

But it's ok, surely this nerf shows no bias whatsoever.

Typical post: "Any nerf you made that I don't like is bias and you don't know what you're doing."

Many people hate Jayce, and I am sure you know why.

I don't though, I barely see Jayce myself in my normal game mmr bracket tbh.

I know that many people hate Jayce, although hating him in his current form would be kinda unjustified and mostly "oh, he beat me, oh, he is jayce, I surely can't lose to jayce, jayce must be op" string of thought.

But that's not about the public, but Riot, who claims they want to have Jayce go melee in order to blow things up. That was already the case and it was thanks to hyper-charge. By nerfing hyper-charge, they promote the opposite, aka throwing ranged hyper-charges and waiting for the cooldown in order to repeat.

There was some reason to tune Jayce, but I also think the hyper charge nerfs weren't that great.

I mean, Jayce AA range is already 500, where he is vulnerable to most spells that aren't melee. At that point people would usually Hyper Charge/transform/to the skyes!/Static field to maximize the damage, but with this nerf they will revert to poke-all-day pattern.

Was there? I haven't felt like overwhelming the game with Jayce anymore and it always required proper timing and positioning in order to not have myself blown to pieces. Additionally, there's so many Jayce counters still being strong, like Vi, Akali, Fiora, Irelia etc. For some reason noone wants to use them (well, except Irelia) and somehow that's a fault on Jayce's part?

Generally, Jayce also doesn't directly counter anyone directly apart from tanks in lane, he just scales well.

But that's up to opinion I guess. What is more of a fact is your second part, i.e. that this change will just promote more poke and hit-and-run tactics on Jayce's part, since the hammer burst sequence will be that much weaker now and not worth the risk.

Yeah, but I think that the removal of the priming W (getting 2 w in a row using W when reaching its end) was enough. Another thing that needed to be removed was crit interaction: W could critically strike, meaning that a ie jayce could theorically hit for 325% AD instead of 250% with each of the augmented attacks.

If it was me, I'd had kept the bonus damage, removed the crit interaction, and increase the bonus damage when swapping in hammor form.

Anyway, Xypherous posted a cool concept for a Jayce rework, where he addressed this exact scenario. Back in the day, they said that w priming wasn't a problem. But now it is, so just proceed with the changes already.

The crit interaction was indeed problematic, but may I remind you that this is mostly a problem with critical instead?

Back when other forms of damage were solid and reliable, you didn't need to go Yumou's and IE in order to hope that rngesus will help you win the fight, but instead the 10% of a trinity force is all a Jayce would have.

Fast forward today you have yumou's being buffed to ridiculous values for its price and crits being the only reliable form of winning, because nothing can stand up to them anymore.

Changing BT and IE have the same AD didn't help either, since BT was also most of the time the more solid choice for Jayce in order to have stronger poke. (assuming you'd go the B.F. sword way and didn't need a BC.)

And that's why they wanted to rework him back in the day.

item 3142 was always ridiculous value for its price.

True, but the change made it a more solid and reliable buy for a bigger part of the roster.

Jayce for example can use it in melee and have 6 seconds of it move over to his ranged stance.
