Knockups are way too common and powerful compared to other forms of cc.

Dasdi96··100 votes·19,640 views

Back in the old days, knockups were rare, so ways of removing and reducing cc were really good. Now, it seems every team has at least 3 knockups, meaning tenacity is worthless. It is the only form of cc that can't be removed.

Maybe its riots way of pushing more yasuo comps in the LCS o_O

Honestly, wouldn't mind this.

Having more specific interactions in game make the Pick/Ban phase, especially in competitive League, that much more interesting. The Xayah and Rakan friction during the Pick/Ban phase in competitive, for example, is actually kinda fun to watch.

Considering the next like 5 champs after Yasuo's release had a knockback in their kit, i'm pretty sure that they were trying to promote him at the time at the very least.

35% of the cc in the whole game are displacements.
Guess which 30% of the champion roster has been Meta for Several years.

Tenacity is a useless stat. As it's currently designed. They just buffed it in the Rune tree to improve it popularity and has had no effect.

This is why I never understood why so much whining about Kat.

xelaker6 votes

cdr on kills or assists makes her stupid strong when ahead? granted I dislike refreshing cd on anything so I have a bit o bias.

TehNACHO10 votes

Well the idea is, since such a strong form of CC is so common, and Kat is so countered by hard CC, why are people complaining about Kat.

It's almost as if both issues, the abundance of knock ups and Kat's potential output, are both complex and nuanced problems that go beyond a single slogan that most Boards threads try to tackle.

Or not, who knows.

50000000000000004 votes

Kat is weak to hard CC, but after the rework that weakness is partially reduced. If her dagger is about to land on her and she's locked down, she'll still do damage. And she has more options to jump compared to pre rework as well.

TehNACHO6 votes

On top of this, the vast majority of knock ups are skillshots, proximity checks, and/or delayed, meaning if you're crafty about it you can outplay the CC with basic positioning skills.

its a circle jerk so no logic is allowed people complain about champions shut down by hard CC then complain about hard CC riot cant win even if they tried in the words of someone wise "bitches bitch"

Because when any 2 of her abilities and an auto or less than one second of her ult can kill a squishy, knock up may not matter

Trundle does not count for lists of knockups. Ever.

His "knockup" is there so you don't get caught in the pillar.

It's the same reason we absolutely do not count Anivia.

50000000000000005 votes

Yasuo can ult off if it, but the duration is negligible enough to not itemize for tenacity to counter it.

DuskDaUmbreon5 votes

He can ult off of it, but it's the same reason Anivia and Yorick's Ws knockup - you'd get trapped in it.

Yeah because spaghetti code

SoryInAdvance1 votes

Not spaghetti code. Spaghetti code is an actual thing, not something used to describe bugs.

3TWarrior1 votes

spaghetti code is the term riot used to describe its game for the first game engine it ran on. Everything was in place, but things overlapped unexpectedly, causing problems

now think of every line of code like a string of spaghetti and that's why they used the term

a bug such as getting stuck in trundle's pillar would be easy to fix as well: simply make the character move away from the center location of the pillar a fixed distance

flibitydoo3 votes

...aka just knocking them away from the pillar?

webstar11083 votes

http://leagueoflegends.wikia.com/wiki/Airborne#Airborne 31 camps have "knock UPS" you have trundle, thresh, mao....those are knock backs

GayFluffyUnicorn15 votes

Still a displacement not affected by tenacity.

webstar11082 votes

LMAO love your sum name XD With Knock Ups you can use things like QSS half way through. Tenacity is still a great stat to have. (slows, stuns, blinds, roots, cripples, charms...etc) "The forced movement of airborne effects cannot be removed by cleansing effects. However, Quicksilver, Mikael's Crucible, Battle Roar, Ragnarok , Remove Scurvy and Unbreakable Will can be used to remove the stun effect. Once the user is able to activate abilities: a dash or blink ability can be used to overrule the airborne. Note that Cleanse Cleanse, specifically, cannot be used to do this."

GUYS GUYS GUYS GUYS look.....there is a site that is very helpful in this convo. 31 champs have a "knock up" many other champs have "airborne cc" like Knock aside or knock back. Just because Yasuo can ult off of it does not mean it is a knock UP. It means they are airborne. http://leagueoflegends.wikia.com/wiki/Airborne#Airborne

There have been several lists made of all the CC, knock-ups and otherwise, on this very board; they're not "too common" unless you define it better and same with "too powerful"- especially given that most knock-ups require you to be in much closer range than the other forms of CC and thus it's less safe.

There are far, far more crowd control abilities that offer CC than there are knock-ups. I believe the ratio was something like 3 or 4 to 1, which sounds fine to me.

Champs with some kind of knock up or displacement. Some are pretty small, yes, but they are all unaffected by tenacity. Pretty much just skimmed the list and grabbed anyone I was decently sure that yas could ult off of or that moved a champ some distance unaffected by tenacity. The list is 60 peeps out of 134(?) champs. something like 44% of champs have some sort of displacement stuffs.

(note:I probably missed some or added some you don't think are worth the list, and I blamed this list up before class starts here so this isn't a thorough effort. Instead of downvoting and telling me I have autism, holla attcha boy if I made a mistake)

FutureCreator1 votes

If you're gonna include super short, insignificant, unintentional knock-ups from Anivia W, then Yorick should be on here too.

xelaker4 votes

the point isn't about about severity so much as it is about the increasing amount of cc not affected by tenacity. yorick added. forgot about his wall

DuskDaUmbreon2 votes

Remove Anivia and Trundle. They do not ever count for these lists.

Unless you'd rather their terrain be what amounts to a root, that is.

And Quinn? She doesn't have one, does she?

webstar11086 votes

Anivia Trundle Yorick are all knock backs. and Yes quinn is on this list correctly

Add these to the list! :D

thats 59 champions out of like 130. and a lot of these champions have more than one.

I don't even know what can be done with Tenacity to make it a more valuable stat at this point. Maybe you can remove it and re-allocate the gold budget elsewhere on the items, maybe Tenacity can be reworked in some way (maybe damage reduction while CC'ed, the reduction increasing with tenacity. In this case you could easily make it work with knock ups as well), I don't know what the best way to do it is. Tenacity is a tough stat to make appealing, because it's only valuable when you're in a bad position. Basically if you're "stacking" tenacity, it's worthless if you actually end up avoiding CC, which is ultimately the goal.

webstar11082 votes

Yep. There are 31 champs with knock ups. This is not including knocks or throws like Draven and Gnar which can my Yasuo ulted.

Warlord Scrap1 votes

Yorick has a knockup too and noone ever knows thid. Granted its more of a mistake knockup than something to go for.

Magic Resist. They could strip off the tenacity and drop the price accordingly.

You will still see 3 in every game.

Ok, then why do they take summoner 1 ? You can't cleanse knockups. If tenacity was useless, cleanse would be too. Also, for a mage it would make more sense to build item 3020 + item 1033 if it was only about magic resist. Yet they often choose item 3111.

Zach xD3 votes

Cleanse is much more powerful than Tenacity. Consider the damage creep in the game currently; you can non-exaggeratedly be killed in a second in some cases (team fight, assassin, etc). If you get hit by a stun for 1.5 - 2 seconds, the value of removing it completely and being able to flash is much higher than instead reducing the stun duration to 0.75-1 second because realistically in that scenario, you'll likely still die.

As for Mercs over Sorcs, that's mostly a meta adaptation. In competitive play, mid laners typically clear waves and roam, almost robotic like. The incentive to harass, fight, and contest your lane opponent isn't very high currently, so Merc's ends up being a safer buy (You don't get as much mileage out of sorc's in a passive lane).
