Darius's kit focuses on him killstealing but he doesn't use the gold very effectively

Another Darius game, I end the game 17-1(this is ranked) and even though I was 10-1 in a teamfight at dragon, I felt like even though I had all these kills, I didn't have very much use for them, my damage was sup-par and my tankiness was decent(bought a lot of tank items).

Honestly, if I was a Jax/Trynd/Irelia and I was 10-1, I would be rolling all over the enemy team with no effort killing all of them but because I play Darius who has a kit which gives him kills, he somehow can't use it effectively.

Basically, if I become 10-1 on any champ, I shouldn't feel like this gold is wasted on me, I want to actually feel like my damage and everything is insane, I was 2-3 levels ahead of their highest level at the teamfight in Dragon and still didn't feel like I contributed that much in damage, just was a sponge and a CC bot for my pull(which is on a long cooldown).

Darius's usage of gold is fine (try Trinity and/or Hydra if your damage is low), but his ult shouldn't be based around last-hits. All it does is promote a feast-or-famine teamfight style in which he's pitiful if he can't ult for a kill, and potentially can sweep through a team with fairly little commitment if the situation offers him chains of last-hits.

His ult should have a reset system based around how many Hemorrhage stacks were on the target. Rework it to be the following:

Noxian Guillotine - Darius leaps to a target champion, dealing 160/250/340 physical damage, ignoring 100% of base armor. This consumes all Hemorrhage stacks on the target, dealing 20% increased damage per stack and reducing the cooldown of Noxian Guillotine by 8/11/14 seconds per stack.

Cooldown 120/100/80 seconds, 5 second minimum cooldown (not affected by cdr) after reduction.

In lane it'll still get a partial reset, but nothing enough to make it the potential perpetual threat it was on release, midgame it'll approach being repeatable in a teamfight with enough Hemorrhage stacks and cdr, lategame it'll outright be re-usable in teamfights with full stacks, and with cdr it won't even take full stacks to get a 'full' reset (there'd still be a 5 second minimum between uses even with a 'full' reset). This'll shift reset priorities onto getting/staying in range and building up stacks, rather than just grabbing last-hits regardless of stacks.

As a bit of a balancing factor, I've made it physical damage, but made it ignore all of the target's base armor... this means it will only be reduced by bonus armor, but will effectively stay true damage against those without bonus armor, giving it a bit more counterbuild-ability. Shouldn't affect laning much (though it will give opponents an early counterbuild option should they need it), but it feels like a healthy rebalance for skirmishes and teamfighting considering his ult should be much more repeatable without gimmicky circumstances mid/lategame.

my damage was sup-par (bought a lot of tank items).

Well there's your problem... Stop building Tank if you want to do damage.

So I should build damage and die to whatever sneeze the enemy dishes out?

Well, I half expected to look you up and see Bronze or Silver with that response... Surprised to see a Plat IV.

And what I meant by what I said was, you say that you don't do anything with your kills when you're Darius because you build tank and then do no damage.

I may only be Gold V at the moment, but Tank Darius sounds more like a Peeler/... Tank... to me. Just spread your stacks in teamfights and either use your pull to initiate, or use your pull to peel for a carry.

If, however, you want to do damage, you can build something like Trinity Hydra -> Tank item or two -> LW (if you're stomping) or GA (if you're not).

I don't personally play Darius, but that would be my thoughts based on what you said about your game.

It's almost like darius is designed to deal damage if you buy damage.

Darius has really high damage. I don't know what you did wrong or what your team did wrong but something went horrible wrong if you couldn't carry with darius after getting fed.

I won the game, my point is that even though I was 10-1 at one point I didn't have as big of an impact as say a 10-1 Irelia or 10-1 Rumble.

Sammystorm2 votes

Of course you didn't. Darius has really high damage if he gets to you. It is really hard for him to get to you. Rumble just drops ult and wins fights. Irelia is irelia.

look at my match history, I just played this game.

This sounds like a potential issue with how you're using your momentum.

Fighters, generally speaking, are amazing duelists and awful team fighters. A fighter will usually convincingly beat any other archetype (tank, assassin, marksman, mage, support) in a straight-up 1v1. As a counter-balance to that, most fighters are among the worst team-fighters in the game, lacking the same presence as most marksman and assassins - and especially tanks, mages, and supports. This is basically why a large number of top-lane champions are solid split-pushers. Forces 1v1 situations to happen.

Another thing: ~half of the fighters that are fighter/tanks (rather than fighter/assassins) tend to almost always be Mid game champions, hitting their major power spike and carry capacity during mid game. Nasus is really the only fighter/tank that's truly a late-game champion, otherwise you're looking at a slew of bruisers that want to steamroll the enemy team into submission at the ~25 minute mark and close out the game before 30 minutes. Bruisers like Volibear that get a lead are also completely terrifying. They have no bothers to give about towers and will dive you 5 minutes before towers usually cease being safe-zones. When ahead, you're also a massive catch-22 to deal with. Most high-damage/squish champions can be delt with via forcing team-fight situations and just focusing them with everything. Bruisers? When you're ahead you're as effective at sponging damage as an actual tank, and often as damaging (if not more so) than major threats like assassins, mages, and marksman. You're in bad shape if you focus them, you're in bad shape if you don't. You've got a lot of wieght to through around is what I'm getting at, and you want to be a wrecking ball when that happens.

Also:

The reason champions like Irelia, Jax, and especially Tryndamere work so well with 10 kills is because those are specifically late game champions (ie scales well with gold, pretty useless without gold). Tryndamere in particular is in the running for the worst champion without items.

Their end-game for winning the game really is turtling to 40 minutes in, getting full-build, then overpowering their opponents. That's the in for blowing up the Nexus, that's the contribution. Jax and Irelia probably more ~30 minutes.

You're end-game with a champion like Darius is getting a lead early, then pushing that advantage for every ounce of power it's worth ~20 minutes in and overpowering your opponents.

It's because Darius is mainly built for being a duel heavy tank. His Kit makes him excel in duels against a lot of match ups but he's still better built as a tank if you want to play effectively on him and not be kited to death. The reason your gold doesnt scale as well is because since you build better with tank items, and tank items arent great items at the moment, your itemization paths will be sub-par.

Thats the only reason why kills on a tank don't scale the way they should, because the itemization sucks. Trynd, Irelia, Jax all have some sort of gap closers, stuns, slows to deal with kiting and sticking to a target. The sooner Rito makes Tank itemization better suited against poke comps the better. These items need to provide things in their actives or passives that some tanky champs dont have to stick to champs, like slows, stuns, gap closers, limited invulnerability, etc.

Until then learn champs that have things in their kit hat help you stick to champs. Learn Irela, Jax, trynd and be a monster at them. It will help expand your champ pool and deal with the "meta". There is a meta developing but fortunately the viable champs in Season 5 seem to be rather wide and varied.

item 3074 Must buy item, really sick resets with active and W. item 3071 Great synergy with his E passive and great synergy with hydra.

These two are the only offensive items darius needs, which leaves room for 3 tank items. I dont understand what point your trying to make.

You could also go item 3078 to get giant W hits if you want another offensive booster. If you go this route, the 8% MS makes selling boots for item 3172 a really attractive option.

So a potential final loadout.

item 3143 item 3065 item 3074 item 3071 item 3078 item 3172

4 offensive items are viable really. You shred dick with this load, just got to be careful not to get kited hard.

This loadout gives pretty sick attack speed for darius with the double reset combo, you can lay down 5 bleed stacks like nobodies business. It also provides 30% CDR which is nice, and semi-okay armor + mr + HP so you dont explode instantly.

If you want to test the load, just make sure to get TF as the 6th item, and zephyr as the 7th after selling boots. I recommend getting tank items before BC as well.

These are great offensive choices and if you have a monster game on Darius and are skilled enough to deal with any potential kiting , especially in a team fight with the limited amount of tank items you'd have then it does make the gold more worth it. But to get to that point, and consistently with the amount of viable champs that could easily counter him with some hard poke and CC? Idk it seems very difficult, not impossible but very difficult. you might be bursted down very quickly if you're ever focused.
