Proposal: Reduce Sated Devourer Phantom to 3rd hit instead of 2nd hit

RocketRelm··13 votes·1,078 views

Sated Devourer is a big problem right now, and Riot has stated that they "don't want to nerf it in the wrong way", so they are being very careful about how they are balancing the item. However, there seems to be a mass agreement that 'something' needs to be done, whatever the particular opinion on what that "thing" is. I argue that whatever change you make, the Phantom Hit is too strong as it is and cannot be balanced because of how it interacts with other items and champion kits. It's like giving Deathcap a 60% AP multiplier, it warps everything around it.

So please, at least do this much, while you figure out how to "properly nerf" the item.

Devourer is already the most cost efficient item on purchase, and makes significant value on TOP of that if you 'ignore' the Phantom Hit'.

Putting this here so that the OP has a singular focal point, and because this is a personal opinion rather than part of the proposal itself.

What I'd ideally like for a change is for the on-purchase item to give you +25 on-hit, +30% Attack Speed Stacks up by 1% attack speed and +1 on-hit, transforming into Sated at 30 stacks. Phantom On-Hit being every 3rd hit instead of every second hit.

But I fully recognize that Riot doesn't want to overnerf the item, and thus so far am only asking for the Phantom Hit to be reduced to every 3rd hit, because I feel like that is something that needs to happen 'regardless' of all other changes.

Devourer remains untouched

This would be a good way to nerf the abusive cases where champs have up to 6 on hit effects and proc them all 3 times in 2 attacks, while there are other champs who just want this proc for one of their abilities + bork and devourer itself but also need the base stats of the item to be viable.

Yeah, more power should be left on the base stats itself, to even out the power curve between those that abuse the item, and those that moderately utilize it.

So do you want feral flare back basically? I'm actually okay with this. I like both sated and feral flare, but had more fun with feral flare, because it infinitely stacked.

Instead of nerfing it why can't we just buff other enchantments? Like do we have to nerf everything?

I think the phantom on-hit is cool, and I think the way it works is healthier than infinite stacking. However, the Phantom Hit is essentially a 50% multiplier for all on-hit damage, which warps what on-hit damage is allowable. A 33% multiplier would be much less power tied up in it, and thus the item itself would be more manageable.

Buffing all of the Jungler items up so that everything is on the same level is a good idea overall, but I don't think that Riot is going to do that any time soon (not necessarily their fault), and I feel like the Phantom Hit change needs to be made even if this is done for the above reason.

you're part of the problem stacking jg items are cancerous and don't belong in the game

That's actually a pretty good start, especially since Devourer made 3 strike combos stupidly easy, and this would make it better as the fight goes on (similar to Yi's passive afaik, where his first passive proc is somewhat slow, but the next ones occur much more quickly.)

It is alot healtier than the feral flare, but I still feel the Phantom hit is flawed, making every second attack strong.

What if it had the black market brawler passive instead?

UNIQUE – PHANTOM HIT: You generate a stack of Malice for 3 seconds each time you attack. At 3 stacks, your next 3 attacks occur in the span of one attack at maximum attack speed (for an effective attack speed of 7.5). The flurried attacks are modified to deal only 50% damage, but otherwise behave like standard attacks.

I made my own post about this idea a while ago, including some math and examples of its interactions.

Just nerf Bork...only problem with Devourer.

Also the most cost efficient item in the game is Frozen Heart.

5.16 FH changes: Frozen Heart Total Cost: 2450 --> 2600 (150 gold cost gain) Armor: 100 --> 90 (200 gold value loss)

3233/2600 = 124.3% Gold Efficiency

So yeah, that's a thing.

Given that the earliest my suggested change would be entered would be 5.16 under any circumstances, and that is when all of this is happening, I'm not sure how "I'm still on 5.15" is relevant to me pointing out that your advice to players on the quality of an item about to be nerfed is misleading?

Yeah, this nerf doesn't sound too bad.
