Why is it that when champs get nerfed hard, they stay nerfed

Akali is SO HOT··64 votes·2,690 views

But when an ADC gets a lovetap nerf they get it partially reverted the next patch? Every other class gets a nerf and then stays that way for a long time. Why do ADCs get to be special and have nerfs partially reverted because they dipped below 50% winrate?

why are you even mentioning Zoe? they nerfed her... er sorry wrong wording, they murdered her dug a hole and put her in it until they can figure out how to balance her.

but back on point to adcs they are late game monsters but have the cheapest itemization they dont need to touch adcs in general at all just increase all AD item costs and it would balance itself out

he mentioned zoe because riot is reverting partially one of her nerf one patch later just like how they're doing to shyv eve and twitch

Riot hasn't consistently rebuffed non-ADCs after they nerf non-ADCs

Riot HAS consistently rebuffed ADCs after they nerf ADCs

That's pretty good reason to believe that Riot has a boner for ADCs

Because Meddler is g4 adc main and he probably tired of abusing varus so he wants to revert twitch nerf so he can probably get to platinum again. The sad thing is that's more of a truth than a joke(99% compared to 1%) =d Rioters dont play this game anymore i guess, because if you play, its so easy to see where this game is wrong and what u need to change. Almost every change after assasins update was wrong and did a negative impact on the game, and rioters still didnt realise it even after all of this feedback. Now its almost same situation like with WoW(last 2 expansions), which was we want to change the game to do smth new, but we have no idea what to do so we can try some random changes playes dont need and wont revert them later even if they are awful.

And did u guys see 8.5 locket changes? The shield is not decaying over 2s, now its a -35% damage reduction 8s field, which means we gonna enjoy 2 items lulu(ardent+locket)+twitch(with reverted nerf)/kog melting an anemy team 2v5 and finishing the game in 15 mins without any chance to assinate\kill them.

Nice job RIOT, really.

Let me introduce you to famous quote of ghostcrawler the lead designer "you don't have to play the game to be able to balance it properly". No wonder this game is in such a sht state.

Chromatic Eagle7 votes

I get the feeling that you're taking that out of context somehow.

MuffledGarbage5 votes

The rest of the piece where that came from just went on to say the same thing. The sentence was a summary said at the end of the video that Ghostcrawler said that

It's perfectly in context

Steelflame1 votes

That locket change is specificly to be a change. Instead of Twitch getting a shield for 1/3rd of his health, he gets a large chunk of damage absorbtion. But you know what? The new locket WON'T be a "save" tool. Its now a "migitation" tool. So if that Twitch is at 10% HP, Lulu popping locket won't help him in the slightest.

"whataboutism" ah ha the sounds of 2018

HalcyonDweller1 votes

2018? Whataboutism is a concept that has existed for longer than just a few months. It's ingrained in rhetoric, and calling it whataboutism is simply a more modern way of referring to the same concept.

If you want to know more about whataboutism you can read up on it's parent fallacy, 'tu quoque.' It's a variant thereof, often used to defend claims by calling into question other actions not actively under debate.

Except in a game like league everythings viablity effects everything elses viability. if assassins are really strong ashe is really weak if they arent ashe is super toxic

HalcyonDweller1 votes

It's still whataboutism. There are far better arguments with much better rationale behind them that people could be using but instead they're crying favoritism and whining about why different characters aren't treated the same.

If something is weak, it should be buffed. If something is strong it should be nerfed. It doesn't fucking matter if another character was treated differently. I'd rather that Riot balance at least some of their characters correctly rather than gut them just because in the past they have gutted others.

MuffledGarbage2 votes

So you'd be 200% okay with your main character being gutted and not touched for 2000 years while Riot has made similar changes that would have made your main character viable on other champions JUST for the 2001st year to be when Riot actually touches your main character but doesn't make a large change?

HalcyonDweller2 votes

Nope, and that's hyperbole. Nice strawman though.

The OP literally implied that Twitch and Kog should be gutted just because other champions have been gutted in the past. That's really shitty reasoning.

As I said before: I would rather that Riot look at any ongoing and future balance decisions with the mindset that gutting should be avoided at all costs.

They certainly should fix past champions who have been gutted, but making comparisons about their decision making in the past and their decision making now is illogical.

MuffledGarbage3 votes

You DID say that Riot shouldn't fix other champs just because they haven't been worked on while champs who HAVE been worked on are newer/have been a continuous project

OP said that Riot should treat all champs similar in the amount of balance-attention that they get

Op doesn't want my hyperbole to be a real thing, but as of right now it's BECOMING A THING BECAUSE IT'S ACTUALLY WHAT RIOT IS DOING!!!

HalcyonDweller1 votes

I am quite certain that I did not say that, you're going to have to point out which statement you think I said this in.

Perhaps you misunderstood me, I am arguing against the claim that "ADCs being nerfed nowadays should be gutted and left in the gutter just like other champs were."

In no way did I suggest that anything should be left in the gutter. I am simply arguing that Riot should engage in better balancing practices from now on, and reverting changes after champions have been hit too hard with the nerf bat is perfectly reasonable.

The highlighted area is pretty easy to mis-read for you arguing FOR riot ignoring some champs but balancing others for the time being

It suggests that Riot shouldn't necessarily care about balancing champs who they aren't working on while still taking on the champs they are now

Sure it also argues against gutting and leaving a champ, but the adverse of that means an avocation for less time spent on champs who NEED the changes/buffs/nerfs

Riot has consistently shown a pattern of nerfing an ADC and then rebuffing that ADC later.(See: Kog, Twitch, Vayne, Caitlyn)

Riot has NOT consistently shown a pattern of giving the same amount of attention towards any other class of champions

Mages? Other than the Mage update over a year ago, Ryze reworks have been the main-running meme of league for a while and he's largely an exception to the balance attention-deficit for mages

Fighters?
Riot has barely started work on helping fighters have a keystone, let alone balance changes. The closest thing to Riot trying to help out Fighters has been with the new keystone, and even that keystone isn't going to stop Tanks from beating out Fighters in the lane-phase

Assassins? Riot's admittedly been working on Assassin a fair bit, but hasn't given proper balance changes to the less popular Assassins until this PBE cycle(and even then it was only a thought-discussion from Riot about one particular Assassin, Shaco)

Junglers? Riot hasn't shown a lot of jungle changes lately and it appears from Riot's recent actions that they don't intend to stop the role from being so impactful on how games turn out. This in turn would leave the current tank junglers in a great spot with no practical weaknesses.

ADCs? Riot as shown a consistent pattern of giving ADCs the tools to succeed(Precision rune tree was built around ADCs first, Stattik/Rapidfire/infinity edge gold buff back in 2017, the recent Kog/Twitch nerf reverts). Riot has also shown a consistent pattern of letting ADCs become the winning factor in games and being okay with not balancing ADCs for an entire season(See the majority of season 7).

Compare ADCs to Fighters. Riot has shown a consistent pattern of wanting ADCs to always be viable while giving next to no changes for Fighters to remain viable. Riot has given an entire rune-set(primarily) to the ADC class, while only giving a Keystone to the Fighter class.

We literally JUST got a mage itemization overhaul…

MuffledGarbage1 votes

The Mage itemization overhaul wasn't in Riot's main line of sight for balancing until a couple weeks ago, and even then Riot mostly just reverted items and separated other items into their own item-lines.

HalcyonDweller2 votes

Misunderstanding understood. I get why you thought that now, and I'm glad we cleared it up. I was only arguing that people shouldn't be begging Riot to leave champions gutted now.

I definitely would like it if Riot would give due attention to champions of the past who have been gutted. But hey at least they're working on it, I mean Aatrox is getting work, and Volibear got stuff recently. Just saying that things have changed the past few months compared to how they were handled in seasons past.

Lack of consistent patterns aside, recently they've been doing better about it. Hence the reverts to the nerfs to non-Marksmen champions recently.

Loosing half of the base damage on your main damaging ability is not a “love tap” in the slightest

my god is this the level of game education the mods have? in what world did he lose "half the base damage" on his "MAIN DAMAGING ABILITY" ?????? he dropped from 290 to 250 on his E. lmfao heaven forbid a hyper carry that destroys entire teams have an aoe ability that does dmg on par with assassin abilities right?

Hell, you arent even suppose to press his E cause its a fckin dps loss over just standing there and right clicking unless the targets leaves your auto attack range or unless its like super early game (not like it even mattered in lane cause he lost most matchups vs other adcs even before the "nerf") "main damaging ability"

Somebody Love Me3 votes

Even with his E nerf, it only affected him until he finished an AD item lmao he still scales like a fucking monster. But god forbid he actually be weak early.

Durzaka11 votes

You might want to check your math again.

His E got nerfed from 20/35/50/65/80 to 20/25/30/35/40

And Twitch maxes E first. So yes, he lost a shit ton of damage on his E from the early to mid game.

Daddy Tie Me Up15 votes

His E BASE DAMAGE GOT NERFED, NOT STACKS. READ WHAT HIS E DOES. Contaminate: Deals 20/25/30/35/40 physical damage (<- THIS GOT NERFED) + 15/20/25/30/35 (+20% Ability Power) (+25% Bonus Attack Damage) per stack of Deadly Venom to all nearby enemies affected by Deadly Venom.<- HAS BEEN UNTOUCHED.

PB4UAME6 votes

To reiterate, its max stack damage (e.g. the ONLY time Twitch actually wants to use this as the animation cuts his DPS significantly because of how ludicrous his DPS numbers are) is not 20 / 25 / 30 / 35 / 40, but actually 110 / 145 / 180 / 215 / 250 (+ 150% bonus AD) (+ 120% AP).

It lost 13.7% of the base damage, now that's being changed to only 6.89%.

It's a fucking love tap, that's now been made into a mere gentle breeze.

Hey now, that was unnecessary. Don't be a prick when you don't need to be.

in what world did he lose "half the base damage" on his "MAIN DAMAGING ABILITY" ??????

Umm, this world? "20/35/50/65/80 -> 20/25/30/35/40" - the base damage was halved at max ability rank.

y0r1ck3 votes

No, that's the damage per stack. Base damage was not nerfed.

HalcyonDweller1 votes

Ah alright, well all the same it's still a significant nerf.

PB4UAME3 votes

From a previous comment of mine, "[Contiminate's damage] is not 20 / 25 / 30 / 35 / 40, but actually 110 / 145 / 180 / 215 / 250 (+ 150% bonus AD) (+ 120% AP).

It lost 13.7% of the base damage, now that's being changed to only 6.89%."

It went from 290 base damage -> 250. He lost nothing. Its potential damage now is 1,250 +7.5 Bonus AD +6.0 AP, instead of 1,450 base damage across your team with a 7.5 bonus AD ratio and 6.0 AP ratio, so clearly it was cut in half.

HalcyonDweller2 votes

Ok, what in the hell? I'm getting conflicting reports from different sources. Some people are saying it was the base damage, others are saying it was the per-stack damage.

There was no need to be a sarcastic asshat with that last bit.

PB4UAME2 votes

Here's the problem, this issue is entirely due to you not knowing how his skill works, but still commenting upon it.

The solution is to look up the information yourself, that is freely available, and hosted in multiple places, including the very same website we are posting on right now, which also includes patch notes, patch histories, etc, so there are multiple ways on this site alone to figure this out.

If that still isn't enough, there are entire third party sites devoted entirely and only to giving out this information. For example, there is: http://leagueoflegends.wikia.com/wiki/League_of_Legends_Wiki Which has just about every single formula in the game except for their match making algorithms, including the damage and function of every character's abilities.

You could go here: https://na.leagueoflegends.com/en/game-info/champions/Twitch/, without even changing sites, and see that his E works like so:

Contaminate

Cost: 50/60/70/80/90 Mana Range: 1200

Twitch wreaks further havoc on poisoned enemies with a blast of his vile diseases.

Deals 20/25/30/35/40 physical damage plus 15/20/25/30/35 (+20% Ability Power) (+0 [actually an error, should read .25 Bonus Attack Damage]) per stack of Deadly Venom to all nearby enemies affected by Deadly Venom."

Or you could go here: http://leagueoflegends.wikia.com/wiki/Twitch

And find this:

Contaminate EFFECT RADIUS: 1200 COST: 50 / 60 / 70 / 80 / 90 Mana COOLDOWN: 12 / 11 / 10 / 9 / 8 Contaminate

Active: Twitch deals physical damage to all nearby enemies afflicted by Deadly Venom Deadly Venom, with each stack granting bonus damage.

Base Physical Damage:» 20 / 25 / 30 / 35 / 40

Minimum Damage:» 35 / 45 / 55 / 65 / 75 (+ 25% bonus AD) (+ 20% AP)

Bonus Damage Per Stack: 15 / 20 / 25 / 30 / 35 (+ 25% bonus AD) (+ 20% AP)

«Maximum Damage: 110 / 145 / 180 / 215 / 250 (+ 150% bonus AD) (+ 120% AP)

Contaminate cannot be activated if there is no nearby enemies afflicted by Deadly Venom Deadly Venom. [hide] Ability Details Contaminate is a point-blank, auto-targeted ability.

Applies spell effects as an area of effect ability.
Soul Siphon.png Spell vamp is reduced to one-third effectiveness.
Rylai's Crystal Scepter item Rylai's Crystal Scepter will apply a 20% Slow icon slow for 1 second.
Banshee's Veil item.png Spell shields will negate the damage done by this ability.

Additional Information:

Deadly Venom Deadly Venom stacks remain on enemy targets after Twitch uses Contaminate.
Twitch is given a range indicator for Contaminate's radius upon infecting an enemy champion with Deadly Venom Deadly Venom (actual range is slightly larger than shown in-game)
Contaminate will not damage enemy targets whose Deadly Venom Deadly Venom stacks wear off or if they move out of Contaminate's range before Twitch can cast."

But here's the kicker, Twitch's E has functioned like this for years and years, he's been played in LCS, discussed quite in depth for years, and yet still people seem to have no idea how his kit functions, or what his skills do, or more specifically, what RIOT even changed, even when directly quoting patch notes, and then they make ludicrous assertions and claims like, "the base damage was halved at max ability rank." When it was decreased by 13.79% to justify reverting it half way, to being a less than 7% decrease in base damage, on one of the best scaling abilities in the entire game, that is also AoE, and on a typically overperforming and frustrating to play against ADC.

I'm sure you can see where the frustrations might arise from those who actually have a clue what they are talking about, and have to read this drivel day in and day out on the boards and reddit-- the only two places other than twitter where you can actually talk to RIOT.

The occurrence is so rare that I'm more likely to click on those "MEET RUSSIAN WOMEN IN YOUR AREA" advertisements AND ACTUALLY NOT GET SCAMMED than for Riot to revert nerfs on non-ADCs

Marshbouy7 votes

That's because most of the time when a champion gets "gutted" like Zoe, Ryze, or any of the old champions such as pre-rework poppy and pre-rework Galio it is because the balance team has decided that they are too toxic for the game to exist in a playable state.

Akali is SO HOT5 votes

This isn't about gutting a champ this is about regular nerfs. Whenever Lee Sin gets nerfed he doesn't get them partially reverted right after, but it seems like the balance team has a hard on for doing this for ADCs
