Does reporting people for AFK do anything?

I feel like it doesn't really do anything and riot just handles AFKs with leaverbuster and they keep that report option there as a placebo effect like reporting people for unskilled. While this is fine with me, there are people that will afk at base after a failed surrender vote or something and will continue to click occasionally to avoid getting picked up by leaverbuster (you can tell because they stand in the fountain doing nothing while occasionally walking back and forth). Since i feel reporting people for leaving doesn't do anything, I usually just report these people for griefing - assisting enemy team instead because not doing anything is helping the enemy in my eyes. Can riot give us a definitive yes or no on whether reporting people for afk actually accomplish anything or not?

Based on watching Korean streams, reports do absolutely nothing. As long as they don't get leaver buster'd (dancing in spawn, intentionally feeding, clicking once every 5 minutes) nothing will happen.

The biggest reason for that is because the tribunal has been down for more than a year. In fact, I believe it will be coming around to 2 years sometime soon.

Uhhh, how would you know? Do you keep track of the players after they are reported? Do you make sure that they're still consistently afking?

If a player is obviously reported dozens of times yet never gets banned, then it is obvious that something is wrong.

I actually heard that the current system marks you as afk even if you just move around the base for 5 minutes doing nothing. It must be tracking if you enter combat for that time.

If their name is red at the end of the game (post game chat), it's already going through leavebuster and reporting does nothing. If their name isn't red, that means that they moved ever 3 minutes or whatever is to avoid getting kicked out of the game. Reporting these people will put them into leave buster (if they actually did AFK).

Well.. I just wanted to say this whole report system is obnoxious. Old ugly & useless...

I really think ingame laws of playing should be updated. They should punish trolls/afkers instead of just tickling.

Soft laws & lazy report system was really good when game was new like 4 years ago.. But now people just abuse it to absurd levels!

I had a duo partner (nobody I knew personally, just somebody that I vibed well in game with and we played most of a season) until one day IN A RANKED GAME he goes "hey. I have to go - really sorry" it was ranked, and I was a bit ticked. The game was going really well and we were really close to winning. But instead of raging since he had become sort of a friend, I go "hey man. just stay so you don't get banned for afk" To which he then informed me that he couldn't get banned because he had a mod that didn't let him afk. Basically I guess he could set 2 points, and the character would run back and forth between them..... So he left. and we lost. And meanwhile his character was going from left to right in the fountain.... Needless to say, we don't play anymore. But I can't fathom how many people have that fucking thing.

12-15 minutes in can be pretty early/just started for bronze/silver games (people don't end well and games regularly go 35 min) and I've played games where we had not just turrets but an inhib down at 12-15 min. That puts down so much pressure that you're almost guaranteed to win in the next 5-7 minutes if you don't go full retard.

Might have been a situation like this, but definitely it's a weird choice of wording.

You get put into low priority ques. I was able to AFK alot of unwinnable games, 4v5s and the like, but the most that happens is a 20 minute wait time before games. I didn't get banned until I actually started calling the 0/15 botlanes that caused me to go AFK bad though.

people hate people like you. just so you know. stop leaving "unwinnable games" I have had teams come back when we had taken zero turrets and the enemy was already doing damage to our nexus. It just takes a few good fights to turn everything around. Don't be a freaking wimp about it and play.

I know riot wouldn't be too happy about doing it but.....can we please just have dota's system for afks? Basically(if you don't already know) if someone leaves in a ranked game, the other players are free to leave without losing ranking. It doesn't help with dealing quitters but at least it will fix part of the issue

I thought people still lost rank points if the afk wasn't in the first like 2 minutes or something, and you just couldn't get reported/leaver buster type consequences for leaving once the game told you it was okay?

I had an afk on my team, reported him. Lost my promos due to afk. Very next game, he was on my team again. We won, but I report cause I was still pissed. 10 games later, on my team again.

I think it might count less if the same person is reporting twice. And two games isn't enough imo to warrant any punishment. Did he do anything bad the second game that was report worthy? Being afk in only one game out of possibly thousands isn't bad. It would be unfair if someone was banned even if they only did it once. Maybe their power went out, it'll happen to everyone at one point. If they're doing it on purpose or constantly, they deserve a ban but once out of a lot shouldn't cause a ban.

I don't even believe flaming does much. I will get verbal abuse reports 3 or 4 games in a row just for saying positive things even. I may only say "Good gank guys", " Nice fight", my only words the entire game and i get a warning for verbal abuse or offensive language. I also get them for recommending items. Recent Ex: Hey Xerath, Sheen might not be the strongest itemization for your champ, dude try athenes, awesome item on him". My only words the whole game and reported, yet nothing happens even thought I get the reported message at the end. I would really like a false report report. If you falsely report, you get some small penalty.

Reports do nothing on their own, there is a system that can detect if you actually deserve a punishment. Back when this system started the forums were flooded by ragers who have been chat banned. The popup in the client only shows you that you've been reported a lot lately, so think about if you said anything wrong. Also if the system detects that you falsely report a lot, your reports will just be meaningless to it until you start reporting the right people. Damn I wrote report more than I wanted. xD

I am not sure if the reports are doing anything or not but there are entirely too many people going afk in ranked games. I have been watching my son play ranked games and at least 40% of his ranked games has a person that leaves or goes afk. Also, every time he gets to series he gets at least 2 or more games where a person is afk. Honestly, the penalties for afk in a ranked game need to be more harsh since the punishment for losing a game is pretty harsh. You should only be playing a ranked game when you know you have the time to play and are going to be there the entire game. My suggestion would be: 1st offense: 24 hour ranked game ban 2nd offense: 5 day ranked game ban 3rd offense: two week ranked game ban 4th offense: banned from ranked play for the season

The report would need to come from three or more players.

A little off topic but Riot also needs to stop pairing people that aren't in series with people that are in series due to the trolls and such. People that are in series usually take their games a little more serious than people just doing a typical ranked game.

I agree with stronger punishments for afks, but what you suggest is way too harsh. Getting 4 afk games is just too easy, especially for those who have rare internet problems or have a child. I never leave on purpose, but still I got a low priority queue because of some internet problems and it usually takes 2-3 leaves to realise maybe you shouldn't try playing anymore and call your ISP. About qeueing players in promos together would be a really bad idea, queue times would get huge, and because there is a lot higher pressure on everyone flaming would be a lot worse too.
