PSA banning intended champ picks

Tychusfindlay919··4 votes·527 views

Even if that person hasnt played the champ much or you think the champ is fucking bad or whatever the reason may be, don't ban champs people intend to play.

And don't cry on the forums about how the player, now frustrated/angry at you for being a total asshole expecting him to play what you want him to play, decided to troll his ass into next Tuesday, making your ranked experience miserable.

No one cares if you are in promos, no one cares if you think that champ is a troll, and no one cares if you try to coerce others into taking picks you want them to pick. If it really were so bad that someone picked a champ you didnt want them to pick for whatever reason, dodge the game and accept whatever loss and recognize that at least you didnt waste 40+ minutes.

TL;DR banning a champion someone intends to pick for whatever reason is probably going to frustrate them and give them the incentive to flip you off somehow, be it in-game trolling or something else.

EDITOR'S NOTE

Sigh... For those who don't understand, the spirit behind this OP isn't about whether it's right or wrong for people to react the way they sometimes do when their intended pick is banned. It's simply to point out that some will react very negatively in the first place and you shouldn't be surprised or upset at what can be seen as a natural reaction. This thread is mainly in response to another thread that has gained traction recently within the boards where the OP complained about having a troll support on his team after the OP banned the troll's intended pick (the troll then made it clear that after the OP was being a dick he was going to troll).

So long as you aren't trying to play a newly released or reworked champion in Rank that first day, or trying to play a champion that most people would find so OP they can't let it fall into enemy hands, I agree, banning an ally champion is a jerk move.

However, you lose all reason to complain about your intended pick being banned if you're trying to play a new/reworked champion in ranked or if your pick is an frequently banned champion anyway. Suck it up, be the better man, and move on.

Why? You know PBE is a thing, right? And just because you don't understand a champ, doesn't mean they don't. Most playing ranked aren't there to lose.

DrCyanide2 votes

Yeah, and I've been on it. A complete crap shoot for if you get to play the champion, combined with wonky matchmaking and people playing all sorts of champions for the first time just to try out the latest skins. It's about as good at preparing you for Ranked as Bot games are.

Conversely, you lose all reason to complain when the guy whose champ you banned decides to fuck you up indirectly.

Actions have consequences. The best consequence should you find yourself between a rock and a hard place in champ select is to, as you would say, suck it up and dodge the game and move on.

And what do you suppose the consequences will be for those who don't just let it go? There's very little difference between your team banning a champion and the other team banning a champion. It's not that hard to roll with the punches and let it roll off your back.

The difference is that the other team doesn't know if that champion banned was your intended pick, and the other team logically wants to try to ban what they think they can't handle (which may be your intended pick).

When it's your team banning your intended pick, they know exactly that you intended to pick that champion.

The consequences for those who don't let it go are irrelevant. This OP is mainly addressed to those who are doing the "asshole ban" and then getting surprised or mad that the target they tried to coerce responded negatively, not to those who respond negatively.

Reading comprehension is critical to understanding the logic and context of my posts.

You sure are placing a TON of blame on the person who's being trolled by a childish player who can't cope with his pick being banned. The troll shouldn't be a troll in the first place, and players shouldn't have to dodge because someone decides to throw a wall-eyed fit and cry when their champion gets banned. Banning a champ is rude, but it's not uncivil. Being an absolute troll and throwing a tantrum is uncivil.

I place blame on no one, I simply ask those who are rude to not be surprised or angry at a natural, albeit many times excessive, reaction.

Reading comprehension is your friend, use it.

I partially agree. I do agree that trying to pick an "OP" champion when you're not first pick is risky and you shouldn't expect to get it. I also agree if your champ is FOTM then you should always be aware you'll get them less often, so there's no excuse to complain about getting your pick banned.

But I don't think it's too much of an issue playing a new champ in ranked. There are too many factors that can occur for that. Perhaps they played him on the PBE? Maybe they studied him intensively? Maybe they already played normals with him the first day he came out and went immediately into ranked same day? The thing is, we don't know, so I don't agree people should ban a newly released champion in ranked, or get upset at players playing them in ranked.

Unless he's bugged out the ass (Looking at you Azir...)

The people who react super negatively are the kind of people who would have raged in game and thrown hard as fuck anyway if even one thing went wrong. All banning their champ does is pull the negative behavior out earlier so you can ban them with reports faster than negative chat alone.

99% of all issues can be fixed by not using pick intent.

Great, but dont be surprised or angry. That's the only point behind this OP.

I'm not surprised or angry. It's the reaction I want so I can get people banned. I'm addicted to the popup message.

EndlessSorcerer1 votes

Honestly, if they are going to start raging over having their preferred champion banned, I'm probably just going to dodge that game and be thankful I learned about it before I was stuck with them for 20+ minutes.

Players who ban intended champion are usually the very same kind of people.

I was debating between going trundle or tryndamere top, but for some reason I felt like hovering aatrox since I got to pick last and was going to possibly counter pick the enemy. Our lux mid decided to ban aatrox. They could've banned yasuo, syndra, zed, or any counter to her. But nope. Wanted to ban my pick. So I went soraka top and played aggro.

And so it's safe to assume that the lux, thinking she was a smartass, frustrated you with her ban?

420 grams1 votes

Yup. Definitely not helpful. Makes me not care about being competitive and the game. Tilting your team mates is the easiest way to throw a game, and people who do this are the ones who will never climb out of silver, will never maintain a high win rate, and will just overall not have as much fun when they're against the enemy and their own team.

While I agree it is rude. Intentionally feeding, helping the enemies or flaming your allies is a bannable offense. While banning somebody's pick in champ select is not.

No offense, but they can throw their tantrum, lose LP and get banned for all I care. Most of the time people don't, but when they throw their tantrums oh well. While I myself don't ban intended picks, I can see why people do. I stomped an Ivern because the guy didn't know how to play him and picked him first day. I've had games lost because our last pick Yasuo refused to ban him(when tank Yas was OP) and the enemy team got him first. It's perfectly logical.

It's also logical to assume that a negative action will result in a negative response. It's good for you that you dont mind tantrum throwers, but there have been instances on this board of people caring and it's hilarious for me to see people throw tantrums in response to tantrum throwers.

To the editors note: Just because some ppl aren't mature, does not mean that I should let w/e champ they intend to go unbanned. This is especially true the lower in pick order they are. Idc how many games you have on the op fotm champ, if you are last pick red side I will ban them regardless of what you intend. If you aren't mature enough to accept my apology and/or reason then you aren't mature enough for the internet/gaming. And if you are showing something super off meta in ranked, I might ban that too just because I don't trust it. In that case you should be prepared for that kind of shit.

tl;dr If you want to play off meta, don't show. If you want a common ban, don't get salty.

I didnt say you should let the champ go unbanned, I said that you should just be prepared for a potential negative response, dont get surprised and dont get frustrated at a situation arguably created by you.

I shouldn't have to deal with a troll for banning what they show for pick intent. I should be safe to assume that they will a the game out and try to do well, or that they will dodge if it's that much of an issue.

Hyperiön1 votes

Only intent bans I do are Yasuo and New/reworked champs. Yasuo can go die in a hole and never return.

Ðelofasht1 votes

We reap what we sow, plant the seeds of discontent and you will likely get rotten fruit.

Ban their pick intent and run the risk of suffering their childish wrath, they may not even say anything about it, just pick their troll take it top, build a sightstone and ward heavily and farm. . . Seen it done, and still won that game.

I never ban their pick intent no matter how bad or off meta it is, nor how OP it is, if they want it then they probably know how to play against it. At least they are less likely to purposefully cause my loss, but if they get all bent out of shape if their pick is snagged by the enemy team first I generally dodge. In all the time I have been playing since pick intent was introduce, I have only had to dodge two games where such a thing happened, most times we end up winning even when the enemy gets their intent. I have had to dodge plenty of games where someone's pick intent was banned by teammates however, because of negative reaction and trolling, even in promos.

OP is correct, do not ban your teammates pick intent, you greatly increase the odds of losing that game.
