No aura items that give armor

GankLord··6 votes·1,165 views

I just played a match as vi jungle where I had to be a tank for my teammates because they were either overextending with no vision or getting shut down from irelia ganks so I already knew i couldn't afford to go with my usual build if I wanted to win and thankfully it paid off and we turned it around. What helped was that the enemy team was mostly AP with the exception of Irelia and Varus so once I had my jungle item and boots of mobility I grabbed locket of the iron solari asap and we began to turn it around and eventually won. After the game I just looked online to see all the aura items to see if there was something that gave an armor to counter a heavy ad team aura wise like the locket does for AP but there isn't. Is there a reason for this or is an armor just not that important enough to get an aura item of it's very own?

It seems like armor is the most hated stat with Riot.

Taric

Is Taric an item? I could be wrong.

He is with Ezreal.

(but in all seriousness, Taric is unique in that sense. If you want an armor aura to counter a heavy AD team, or just love auras and will get Locket anyway, Taric might be for you)

Yeah but I'm asking for an item not a champion there may be times when I'm not able to do the support role and choose him or my team doesn't even if i ask them to. I can't rely solely on being able to get him for example if I'm last pick and I'm not able to support. In this conversation champions are irrelevant to the point.

It might be because only part of the roster has scaling MR so an MR aura can help the ranged champions out with AP durability, but every champion gains armor passively as they level.

Just a guess, though.

What is item 3110, Alex

Something that doesn't give the team an armor aura

It's not a flat armour, but it does the same thing. AOE slow on auto attacks mean less dmg. It's the same end goal of an AOE armour item.

... You clearly did not read the thread because I asked for an aura that gives armor. Slowed autos doesn't mean less damage it just means the damage is delayed that's like saying a strongly acid substance that can easily burn through skin will not burn through me if I let it dissolve through a plank of wood before hitting my skin. The wood may slow the acid's path momentarily but it certainly will not stop it from burning a hole through my flesh. It does not do the same thing whatsoever that item's armor only benefits one person.

Let's say and ADC attacks 1 time per second. Frozen Heart slows that rate by 20%. That is 20% less damage (roughly) from the Jinx/Trist/Ashe/ect... It is not a flat armour aura item. But it does the same thing.

"slowed autos doesn't mean less damage it just means the damage is delayed" this is 100% wrong. AD damage is not a guarantee (like a Teemo/Cass poison). Using your example (bad one btw) making the acid burn through the wood gives you time to move. Here are some rough numbers.

Let's say the ADC does 1 attack every second, and does 100 dmg on every attack. So for 5 seconds the ADC does 500 dmg.

In the aura of frozen heart that same ADC attacks every 1.2 seconds for 100 dmg. Meaning the ADC can get off only 4 attacks in the same time frame (5 seconds). So for 5 seconds in the aura the ADC does 400 dmg. A next savings of 100 dmg. That extra 100 doesn't magically appear on someone else, it's gone because it never happened.

In a world where you can get 50 armor at the drop of the hat, you want an item that gives 20 armor?

I think the solution to your woes is this: item 3222

I never said I wanted it to give 20 armor now did I ? I specifically said something that counters AD like the locket counters ap however if there were said item in the game the aura bonus may be higher than 20 I'm not asking for the exact same ratios. I don't think people are reading the thread because 1. I'm not asking for the champion to pick to counter AD because there may be a time when either I will not pick taric or one of my teammates does not pick him and 2. I am asking for an item that helps to counter AD not ap there is absolutely nothing wrong with that item in fact it may be good for many situations but I'm looking for something that is more of a counter against AD then hard CC. Again it's not a bad item but sometimes your're not able to access actives or forget to and the entire point of the thread to understand why there isn't an aura armor item. I highly doubt that item is the reason we don't have one if that is the point you are trying to make however.

An armor aura would be strong against most team compositions, because most teams have a lot of physical damage. There is always a marksman dedicated to AD. Aegis used to give armor (before patch 3.10) and it was a must buy every game. The stats were so useful that either the support or the jungler had to buy it. I rather see more situational items. Locket is situational, it helps against a lot of AOE magic damage. An armor aura is not situational, but something you would want almost every game.

It also makes more sense to make MR an aura stat and armor a personal stat. Magic damage tends to be AOE more often than physical damage. Locket prevents squishies from dieing to just the AOE. Physical damage tends to be more focused on one person. And if the enemy focuses a squishy, they should go down. Your squishies shouldn't survive because you bought an armor aura for them, they should survive because they positioned well and received peeling.

An armor aura would definitely be very useful, but it would also make the game more boring. There are way more interesting item choices against physical damage that create gameplay instead of removing it.

item 3143 item 3075 Try to get focused. item 3110 item 3068 Be in the middle of the fight, soaking damage for your team. item 3222 item 3401 Protect your teammates.

Your arguments however for solely AD champions also works for champions that are solely AP. While I 100% agree with you that Magic tends to be more AOE than physical and that physical is aimed at more at one person I don't think that's grounds to justify that if someone is squishy they should straight go down to AD. In an offhand example that's like saying hey lets bully the only white kids in a dominantly black school because there are very few of them. Why discriminate? AP can just as easily be applied to solely one person main offender (Akali and Leblanc but she does have Aoe).

Let's say for example that was ok, "Your squishies shouldn't survive because you bought an armor aura for them they should survive because they positioned well and received peeling". If were going to use that as a rule then by the same token, "Your squishies shouldn't survive because you bought an magic resist aura for them they should survive because they positioned well and received peeling" main offenders being (Leblanc, Katerina, Akali) should work as well right? I don't see how having armor aura would make the game boring. You buy items to suit the purpose.

The items we are discussing here are all situational. If my team is getting screwed by Ap as it was it wouldn't have the best thing for me to buy a frozen heart where only Irelia and Varus are the main AD offenders and also have magic damage build into their kits whether it be through ultimate or other skills and were the ones getting to us. Again those items you listed aside from the crucible and and face of the mountain which I also made arguments against in a previous post (frozen heart only when most of the enemy depends on AS) benefit you more than the team situationally. Yes you're right. In the middle of the fight soaking up damage for the team sunfire, thronmail and frozen heart are great but for the most part good players know well not to focus you. As you stated before good placement will make it so they will bypass you to get to those who aren't there to soak up damage which is why it's good to have aura items. In the case of the enemy team versus us who had more AD than Ap buying a sunfire, randiuins or a thorn mail for the tankiest person on their team who it would have benefited the most from buying it irelia would have been more effective against us than her buying an abyssmal scepter even though it would lower our magic resist or for that matter chogath who didn't buy that item even though that would have been a great help to his team rather than him buying the warmorgs which while it kept him alive did not keep him alive long enough for us to slaughter his team and then take him out and would have worked better on Irelia.

I like your arguments however as I stated already they can also apply to AP champions and I don't think they are justifying not having an armor aura item. It seems if anything your arguments are advocating for the recent decline in assassins which isn't a bad thing imo. Tanks are just shining right now but there time will pass eventually.

Is obvious why there is no armor aura. Everybody(!) have AA, so armor-aura item will be efficient in every game in every situation. Creating this kind of 'must-have' items is just against balance.
