Can we get another tank champion

GankLord··23 votes·10,221 views

With all this damage and hypermobility in the game I think it's time. Correct me if I'm wrong the last kinda Tanky Champion was Ornn? I just want a good boi or girl that can soak up the damage Rito.

  1. We know the next champ is probably the marksman so not anytime soon sadly

that's unfortunate

It was ornn. But the problem with tanks is same problem with enchanters they are limited by the idea of the class, there are only so many ways to cc or tank damage without being so good at it that other tanks are useless.

Mages and bruisers have much more diversity in what they do. That's is why there is so many of them vs other classes.

Honestly Idc there aren't any really good tanks out right now. That used to be Maokai but they took that away from him. I'd like them to bring back the sucking up damage to dish it out mechanic to come back. I just want a really good tank. I don't really care if it makes it so you pick him or her over others. There are a lot of champs that you would pick over another because they do it better anyway.

they are never going to give a % damage reduction aura. Riot is moving away from auras, and have been doing so for years

Taric has what remains of it with his aoe ult that makes you temporarily invulnerable

A tank more centred on consistent zone control rather than blowing their load in 2 second?

boricCentaur11 votes

No since tanks only have zone control from cc and what tank doesn't use everything in 2 seconds since leo, poppy, orrnn and basically every tank I can think of doesn't have constant zone control.

Ornn can very easily get two knock ups on a good amount of enemies if there around baron or parts of the jungle that makes you think about where you fight vs him but there also on long cooldowns meaning once ornn used them there gone ornn has no zone control. sol has great consistent zone control but his comes from damage because his w does a good amount of damage and that makes the enemy move in different ways.

A lot of the times the zone control from tanks is just don't group up or stand near a wall, where someone like sol will always force enemies to move differently.

sion :) there's a reason that guys been the only good tank for god knows how long

SEJUANI HELLO? Champion is broken and I'm proving it by racing from D3 to GM in a week, thats what I've done so far. Holy crap you people just have no clue about the game, and its so sad to see xD

Meteora7071 votes

d3 to gm

is silver, okay dude. seju has damage and cc lock out of her ass not zone control btw

boricCentaur11 votes

Sion is not a tank bty and HE DOES EVERYTHING IN 3 SECONDS AND THEN HAS NOTHING. His q, r are his zone control and he will use r once and then use q like after that he has nothing to zone with.

So like Anivia but tanky? Like maybe have a circle that reduces damage dealt to allies that are inside it?

you mean like old maokai ult?

Yeah but more focused on the damage reduction, and either no damage or less damage at the end of it

That's mostly cause riot considers other forms of utillity as 'hidden power' and keeps them out of the game. Buffs, auras, DEBUFFS would all be ways contribute to a fight with neither raw damage nor raw CC and thus would suit a tank. AS slows for example used to be a thing, now Malphs E is the only one remaining. Sonas W-Passive proc is the only damage debuff on a champ. Nearsight/blind effects also have some more room in the game. Brittle is a somewhat interesting mechanic that so far only Orn uses.

I also really wouldn't say that bruisers and mages have much more diversity.

TehNACHO1 votes

To be completely fair, auras are legitimately hard to balance on top of being largely invisible if done wrong (old Sona, many old aura items), Trundle type debuffs are extra invisible and while not as hard to balance are far more awkward, and strict Buff type abilities are extremely prone to being abused by Funnel Comps.

It's not that Riot won't explore these spaces (see Yuumi), it's just that these mechanics have a history of balancing vs gameplay problems, very long and very troubled histories no less.

Sire Hippington1 votes

Trundle type debuffs are extra invisible

They don't have to though, you can give them some noiticeable visuals, proper audio cues or think of other stuff to atleast make it more apparent for the reciving player. IF you ever played with/against arcade Sona, the extra visuals on her passive procs give alot more clearity especially for the damage debuff. It wouldn't be that hard to implement some consitant vissuals for such debuffs, just how they did for armorshred.

The primary problem is that Tanks don't tank much damage at all right now. Fighters are the best Tanks right now.

That has literally nothing to do with anything here. That's like saying we need juggernauts since the majority of them suck.

Like stop trying to shove things that have nothing to do with something just because you want to say it.

You got anger problems. Here is what you said...

"there are only so many ways to cc or tank damage without being so good at it that other tanks are useless."

I was iterating the fact that Tanks are terrible at their job (tanking). If you used your head instead of your neck beard nerd rage, you would see that the point is completely relevant to what you said. My iteration brings the question... "Do new Tank champions solve this issue? Or do we need to do something to make our CURRENT Tanks capable of actually soaking damage without giving them more CC or more damage?"

I was some what agreeing with you even........................... I was agreeing with the point and you practically attacked your own point unironically. The part I was somewhat disagreeing with was you being so forthcoming that new Tanks won't be a solution. While I think our CURRENT tanks need to be focused on more, I wouldn't completely rule out new Tanks being able to solve the issue.

Now take a chill pill before you have a heart attack.

I would love to see a new tank champion. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but the reworked Mordekaiser should be tanky

Just because Morde looks like a tank doesn't mean he should be, and thankfully he isn't.

He does though, build items that do make him naturally tanky.

Zardo1 votes

If we do hopefully they're not another ornn who just oneshot you with their absurd base damages early, resulting them in having to get a lot of changes to their kit in order to make them able to be balanced.

LordGeovanni1 votes

Not really looking forward to another clunky slow champion that dies quickly

ZapFreeMan1 votes

It's funny you think a new tank champion wouldn't also do a lot of damage.

Are... you kidding?

Riot has showed us that they don't care about toplane. That could have plenty of reasons behind it (like that toplane champions do not sell many skins) but the main one I believe it is, is because in the past they had messed the numbers of the champions in those lanes so badly, that it would require time and effort to fix these and Riot, that small indie company, does not care for such "small" problems nor do they care about western phenomenons or crap like that.

GankLord1 votes

I mean you're assuming just because they're a tank they have to be a top laner. No, they're also tanky mid and junlger. You can take cho and Galio mid. The latter used to be a famous mid tank. I don't think he fairs well mid now. It would be nice to have a new top laner but I just want a generally good tank.

Kumiho Ahri1 votes

If they make a tank , they will focus on CC and DMG and not on DMG absorbtion.

Grouchy Poro1 votes

I would like a tank top laner that has a sword and shield (leona has this but you barely use your shield)

Nea1041 votes

"Tankiness" overall doesn't exist in this game. The moment you see any tank viable, is because of the damamge and/or the hard engage. Not for the tankiness.

Total Violation1 votes

But can it be a good looking tank and not just a fat hairy brainless beast who just wants to "SmAaAsH tHeM ALL!"?

I'd love to see another mech pilot, or just more robot champions in general. Because, realistically, the only champions who fill that fantasy are Blitzcrank and Rumble. (Excluding Viktor and Camille because they're more cyborgs than robots.)

Cevrad1 votes

Uh, play Sejuani.

GankLord1 votes

Is she a new tank champion?

Sire Hippington1 votes

Well, they allready struggle makeing the current tanks soak up damage... As much as i'd like a new tank, I'd prefer them fixing the existing ones. Atm, it's only some of them played supoort, seju and maybe Gragas after the buffs jungle, and Orn top.

Tanks don't make mad lcs plays and bring in that $$$

I’d also take a tank fighter just someone who can take more damage and doesn’t need to run away at every turn
