So who actually counters Irelia?

Naomi CoffeeGoat··1 votes·837 views

Because I need to play this shit whenever this bitch is picked. Our top laner just fed her and threw away the MASSIVE lead we created across the lanes. Leading very decently in kills, good objective control. Then she started grouping up and assassinating carries, being unkillable, unduelable, the usual bullshit irelia stuff. Who even beats her in top lane? It's the same exact results every time she's played. She gets fed and hard carries the team to ridiculous extremes more than any assassin can.

Illaio, Tahm, Voli, and Nasus (if he survives to level 6 without getting to far behind) usually have a rather easy time contending with Irelia.

Darius is a minor counter, Fiora if you are good at blocking Irelia's highly telegraphed E can make irelia ineffective.

Trundle?

I did forget a few but I would put him as a counter on the same lines of Darius.

Darius is not a counter. He just abuses irelia's weak early game like everyone else. After he lost the attack speed slow, Irelia comes out on top alot more than not I find. Tahm Isn't a coutner, it's just stupid hard to kill him (next to impossible tbh) Illaoi is a fucking nightmare. Volibear is hard. Nasus is really hard if you don't get any ganks, cause even if you manage to kill him once early, you get fucked regardless. Fiora is hard tho for sure

So basically you agree with my choices for the most part.

irelia's weak early game

what

Irelia Bot1 votes

Levels 1 and 2 are not usually a time to be trying to do trades.

Most Irelia players try to wait until at least level 4 before trying anything because it usually will not end well before that.

if you had a "massive" lead you could deal with irelia easy

guess you didn't have it then, likely got few kills, 1-2 dragons, it's not a massive lead

Jax is good for anyone with an ability that modifies basic attacks (like Irelia's W) because he basically makes it so that they only have 2 basic abilities and an ult until it wears off.

Just played Irelia into Jax and stomped him about 5 kills in. Either he didn't know how to play or he's not an actual counter.

He probably didn't know how to play or you outplayed him. I stand by that Jax is good against anyone who has an ability that does nothing but modifies their basic attacks. I'm guessing you used your Q to jump around to minions while his E was going, then reengaged. Jax is really more a skill matchup. The Irelia stands and fights, and of course she's gonna get rekt. Irelia jumps around to minions and kites him around until his E ends, however, and she's probably win.

I actually didn't kite. I wanted to, but minions weren't low enough for me to get the cooldown back up. I just sat on him autoing most of the time and just waited his stun for mine. Even messing up my stun a few times and getting the slow.

Even if minions around aren't low enough, you can still just Q away and perhaps not kill the minion, since I think his E CD is a lot longer than your Q's, and then you can zone him for the rest of his E CD.

you don't counter irelia, you'll have to learn to win without counterpicking to beat irelia consistently.. ie just learn the game if you haven't already and use common sense, she's an onhit champ with a one way targeted gapcloser, you have something like 60-90 seconds between her heals and she heals by attacking, you will not beat her in a battle of attrition.

Its just common sense stuff... or maybe I should say critical thinking

i.e. pick ranged champ w/ cc or you're screwed.

irelia is strong as shit against ranged

Irelia and Yasuo have exactly the same counter: Stop standing on top of your minion wave, and they cant get close enough to touch you, ever.

As someone who played a fair bit of Irelia a while back. Try out: Gnar Pantheon and especially Renekton

Last one is an extreme pain for her to deal with.

I agree with Panth and renekton, but Gnar is really easy after level 4

Aatrox (yes, really)Darius DrMundo Fiora Camille Illaoi Jax Renekton Nasus Malphite Maokai Olaf Pantheon Poppy Shen Singed Shyvana Trundle Yorick Volibear

All do well against her if you know the match-ups.

Of those Volibear Yorick Trundle do the best.

Voli just stat-checks her to death. She can't really do anything about it.

Yorick just waits til her Q isn't reset, then pops his kit on her and she's basically dead at that point.

Trundle basically does the same as Voli. If she ever steps forward, just auto Q auto, she E's, then you pillar and go to town on her with Frozen domain.

Olaf can shit on her pretty hard.
