Is Gangplank the worst champion in game?

I mean, I know people say Urgot is bad but after playing Gangplank for a while now, he feels like he is probably one of, if not, the worst champion in game.

Let me explain: He has a useless passive, he doesn't scale, his power spike is level 1 before he declines he has no real build he has a damage spell which is just a ranged auto attack that costs mana his oranges don't make him K, he's so bad they barely make him better his E aura is useless and not noticeable his ult is only good for the slow and waveclear

There are many more problems, such as the fact that he's a MELEE ADC WITH BARELY ANY DAMAGE.

Or maybe I'm mistake and he's really a tank.

Or Bruiser.

Or Mage.

Or Support.

There are so many ways to play Gangplank that are still bad, I mean, his passive makes me cry, 4 magic every second at level 1? Wtf?

This guy feels like the worst champ in game, at least Urgot has a sexy nipple.

He has a useless passive,

Can I stop reading?

He is one of those champions that can legitimately play around his passive. His passive is far, far from useless, and can be one of the best passives in the game if used well.

he doesn't scale

Okay...Parrley can crit and has its own bonus damage amplified by a crit multiplier. How is that not scaling with items (crit)?

Gangplank item 3031 item 3087 eats off an ADC's 80% hp with one Q lol.

give him some defense and you have a crazy hard to kill pirate running around the map causing you nothing but trouble

You're over exaggerating a lot of his cons. And attributing cons to him he just doesn't have.

That said - he's certainly in the running for worst, he's defiantly in the bottom 10%.

With that generally translating into a 45% win rate I wouldn't recommend jumping ship if you like the pirate though, Riot's balance is pretty solid all things considered and you don't need that much skill to stay afloat as any champion. Viability in LoL usually doesn't come into play until the highest of the high ranks - until then just using unpopular champions usually nets you pick/ban strengths and then you can easily surprise people by doing things they've never trained against, which can often negate whatever minimal skill advantage you'd need to offset the arguably stronger kits of your foes.

You also get mad props, bragging rights, and chesthair points if you can pull off hard-mode champions.

I think worst still goes to Urgot.

GP's kit atleast can function, its not all that effective, but building full crit and cheesing the AD carry of 90% of their HP in one shot is gangplank's job. Again, he is pretty bad right now, But he still scales really well into late game.

Urgot on the other hand scales horribly into late game, and is only really effective for the first 15 minutes of a game as a lane bully.

What do you mean he doesn't scale. He scales extremely well if you go critplank.

passive is a free slow,cc is always good

ult is one big global AoE slow, more cc is always good get free assists, aid in ganks, help team mates get way, help team mates secure kills etc

his build is getting abuncha crit, on hit... uuh AD pretty much like a adc, problem?

barely any damage? wat... his Q chunks so hard it could be classified as 1 click burst 4 magic damage gives you mixed damage, thats always good its lke half a magical longsword!

not that you ever trade with AA no really people actually AA with gp? I just shoot people... never ever enter melee range

His passive is very good, its problem is that it doesn't scale well. Early game his passive is what allows him to win trades, have the strongest lv. 1 in the game (along with high base stats) and get First Bloods (thanks to the free slow). Later on, though, the damage becomes quite weak and the slow less threatening (since in teamfight people can be peeled). Some time ago I thought like you that it was crap but in time I've recognized its strength, and, if I were to change it, I'd just buff it making maximum stacks 4 and 5 at level X and Y.

His Q is fun to play (probably not to play against, but I've faced very few GPs) although late game it does little more damage than an adc crit with a 3 sec CD (if you manage to get to 40 % cdr) and less range than Cait and that's... meh.

His W is fine. His E is unappealing. I don't know if it is deliberately underwhelming because of the other "strengths" of his kit or if it must be analyzed in itself. In the second case, I hope they swap it with something more interesting (like hard CC, more dueling potential, a REAL mobility buff something like this).

The R should scale better imho. Like dealing less damage the farther it's used (#Counterplay), but also having stronger slows late game for true teamfight power.

All in all, he's not crap but definitely needs some love to be more viable.

"Let me explain: He has a useless passive" His passive is like Twitch's passive, it's a great poison that has gotten me alot of last hits to Champions and minions.

"he doesn't scale" His Q scales with item 3031 item 3087 perfectly.

"he has a damage spell which is just a ranged auto attack that costs mana" item 3057 item 3508

"his oranges don't make him K, he's so bad they barely make him better" They've sustained me in lanes for a few minutes without going back and saved me from getting killed or ganked.

"his E aura is useless and not noticeable" It's actually very useful for starting first for the bonus attack damage and movement speed.

"his ult is only good for the slow and waveclear" Not only does the slow help teammates across the map from getting ganked or doubleteamed and helps them run away, but it's also a great initiate.

If GP came out today his passive would probably deal %hp damage or shred resistances (possibly both). His Q would be a skillshot, but would be a lot stronger than it currently is.
His ult would scale with AD and probably deal damage based on missing hp.

His passive is very strong at levels 1-3, and then falls of hard after that both in damage and in the slow. GP is up there with Riven with one of the best level 1 power spikes in the game. An AA-Q-AA combo will triple stack his passive and give you three chances at a crit (This is GP, of course you're running crit chance runes, right?)

The pirate scales okay with just about anything. Crit, attack speed/on-hit, AD, AP, tankiness, he can do it all. Not as well as other champions mind you, but he can change his build on the fly with little penalty.

His Q is a ranged melee auto, don't forget that. Items like item 3074 item 3025 when applied at a distance can be quite effective.

His oranges heal you quite well if you level them first. Healing 30-35% of your health with one move is insane sustain.

His ult gives him a global presence, which should not be underestimated. A level 6 GP can initiate a fight in bot lane or help peel for an ally that got caught out in the jungle, all while calmly farming up top lane.

All that said, GP has major issues. His passive doesn't scale well, his E is a lot of hidden power that feels underwhelming to use, his mana costs are archaic, and he has no hard cc or gapcloser for catching and sticking to carries like most other fighters do.
