Make placement do what it is intended to do

If a new player goes 1 and 9 in placement, drop them to Bronze V, they deserve it.

If a new player is 1 and 8 in placement, that 10th game should be with and against low bronze , not high silver low gold.

translation: placement does not place terrible new unranked players in where they belong, but instead left them in silver which is near base mmr. this drastically reduces match quality in silver and need to stop.

I was silver the last two seasons. I won 8/10 placements this year and was placed in Bronze 5. I climbed from Bronze 5 to Gold 5. Now about a third of my games have unranked players in them and for some reason they're always on my team. Obviously i lose the games having the new player feed a gold ranked player. Thus my mmr dropping to a level never to return to normal. I am now Gold 5 for life until next season which I'm willing to guess I'll be placed in bronze again. I should start a new account....

You can climb out of G5 though, even with unrankeds on your team.

It's significantly more difficult but over the span of a few games if you're stuck in a bracket it's because you belong there.

But that's not what it's suppose to do.....

placement should greatly influence your mmr for every win or loss, now it just seems like half the time it doesn't change anything.

That's because it greatly changes your mmr but that still if only 50 or so mmr at most. And each consecutive game had a lesser effect on mmr. Placements may decide silver 5-1 but not bronze-gold.

Yes. It takes your old mmr ads the average mmr of all players then divides by two. That is your starting mmr for the season. Then your placements adjust that mmr greater than any other matches you will play. Then you get placed.

So if you were plat last season with 1800 mmr. You add 1800 with 1200 then divide by two 1500 then your placements start at 1500mmr or roughly gold 4 ish I believe. From there you could win all 10 and drag your mmr up to gold 1 or lose all ten and get silver 1 but you can't lose enough to get bronze or win enough to get diamond.

You know I am talking about unranked player getting placed outside of silver right?

Same deal. Different starting number. The game assumes your average. You can't have a volume system where the average starting player could be shot to diamond or 10 mmr bronze 5.

no, every new lv30 account has the same base mmr.

no, every new lv30 account has the same base mmr.

?????????? Should the ones that buy rp have more? Starting people at different mmr would destroy any semblance of fairness.

I just proved that even with same base mmr some gets placed outside of silver, so your arguements

is false

Then your original post is invalid. If people can be placed in bronze then system works as you wish.

People can get placed in bronze =/= all players who deserve bronze get bronze.

Correct it is not a perfect system. It can not perfectly place every person in 10 games.

The Deckowner2 votes

which is why I made this post, because the ratio of bronze-worthy get bronze :bronze-worthy get silver is too low.

Of course they do, but you're asking for way too much weight on 10 games. If 10 games could take you from 1400MMR to 1100 MMR, that would be ELO hell incarnate.

Especially considering the next ten games don't have the same weight, so you're putting from 70 to a few hundred games worth of MMR weight on ten games.

Gross

The Deckowner2 votes

base mmr is 1200

Nagoh Shan1 votes

Ah well, thought I remembered seeing it said it was 1400. My bad.

Still way too much weight on 10 games.

I believe due to trolls and etc - there should be a reset series for the lower MMRs

Randomonium1 votes

Yep, this made the climb through low silver even worse than the climb through high bronze. It's really unfair to both the new players and the experienced ones trying to climb. Someone with 5 ranked games shouldn't be going up against someone with 500.
