NEW HUD - Why we needed change
Hey everyone -
The forum has been flooded with negative posts about the new HUD so I thought I would weigh in on a more positive perspective. Of course, it will still come down to personal preference, but I'm hoping my thoughts will provide a different point of view to consider.
Currently, our HUD is pretty amazing already. I have to say I have never really had any problems with it. So then why am I posting with a title "why we needed change"? The answer is simple, it just didn't hit me until now.
The map of summoners rift is consisted mostly of directional lanes which run from bottom left and top right, which way you were trying to advance of course is dependent on which side you start. Now when we consider the balance of the current HUD between these 2 corners we can clearly see that the bottom left takes up a much greater area than the top right. Thus, your field of vision effectively shrinks when you are trying to process information that is coming from the bottom left. Giving a slight disadvantage to the team that requires information from this area of the screen more often.
Now lets look at the new HUD. You can clearly see that they made an effort to move information out of the main parts of your screen which is the diagonal lane running from bottom left to top right. Information has been grouped to areas of the screen which are used less often. Thus, after you become acclimated to the changes, you will have a much better view of the battlefield and the lanes.
In time, I believe people will notice an improved clarity that they were unaware was missing.
Hope this made sense to someone else other than myself,
