Is "Taxing" a legitimate thing?

Jungle comes top, ganks, gets a kill steals half your minion wave including smiting your cannon minion? Is this legit? I have it happen to me all the time.

Let me explain a bit better about this...

  1. Taxing is only reasonable when the wave is already pushing towards the enemy laner & you are in the lane.
  2. If you are not in the lane and your Jungle comes to take the wave, you need to remember that you likely would have missed some of those CS anyways to other creeps or your tower. Thus the Jungle is making profit from something that would have been lost.

The theory behind "taxing" is to shove the wave into the enemies tower faster after he or she is dead to ensure they are losing more minions to the tower. By having your Jungle help you push the wave, you are effectively allowing the tower to kill more of the minions than it would have if you shoved the wave all alone.

Even if you are a super wave clear champion, it isn't always a bad thing to have the Jungle help shove as he can still put a few extra hits on the enemy tower, if the other Jungle doesn't come to defend.

If the wave is pushing towards your tower or frozen, the Jungler shouldn't "tax" the wave regardless or it's safe to assume he's either just being a dick or doesn't understand what he's doing.

(Still not an excuse to flame him -- you probably still need him to win so why upset him?)

  • When you kill an enemy with the wave shoved towards you, or frozen on your side, that means the enemy will have to overextend to farm when he comes back into lane. It's also much easier to zone him off the minions with the wave frozen on your side.
  • A good Jungle will usually be capable of reading this and come to back to kill him again after he respawns.

Here's a general rule of thumb for knowing when to push, or not to push your lane:

  1. Enemy teleported? ** Shove wave! (Always, unless you can counter his teleport.)
  • Enemy died, wave isn't pushing? ** Don't Push! (Wait for it to come towards you & freeze.)
  • Enemy died, wave IS pushing? ** Shove wave! (Good Jungle will HELP YOU PUSH)
  • Enemy backed? ** Same as when enemy dies.

How do you know if the wave is pushing or being pushed?

  • Keep a count on yours and the enemies minions, when both waves meet there will be 6 on each side until the Siege Creep arrives.
  • A Siege Minion is roughly the equivalent of 4 caster minions or 2 melee minions.

In order to keep the enemies wave pushing towards YOU, they should have about 3 - 5 more minions than you at all times. If both waves are equal and the enemy kills his Siege minion, the wave will ALWAYS push back to you. This is probably the most important thing to remember when it comes to freezing waves.

The reason why you need 3 - 5 minions is to ensure that you can safely last hit without the wave shoving back towards the enemy. If you only have 1 or 2 minions less you can still get the wave to come towards you by missing a few CS, assuming there aren't any Siege minions in your wave. Sometimes missing a few CS here or there is a much better strategy than overextending or being zoned out of entire minion waves.

If you have MORE minions than the enemy, naturally the wave will push.

If the enemy isn't attacking the minions, and you don't have the wave frozen, it will push.

If you have a Siege Minion on your side and the enemy doesn't, the wave will push (unless the enemy wave has a ton of caster creeps).

Unfortunately there's still a lot more to wave management and I could keep going all day, hope this is enough knowledge for you for the time being. :)

I always heard that if you get the kill then they tax and if they get the kill then they don't tax, but idk the official way of it working

I mean like if I roam mid for a kill I never "tax" them. Considering I'm 99% sure the jungle is designed in a way that you can gank without it putting you behind, especially with the smite charges. If you gank then you will have another charge up faster and you will be able to clear another camp quickly.

That's how it's supposed to be.

Hello summoner!

It is common for a jungler to help push a lane or 'tax' after killing the enemy champion to help deny cs by pushing the minions to the turret.

Im happy to help! Im not to sure but i believe a recruiter is someone who sends and invite for someone to play League of Legends and they get that account to level 5.

You get the kill = jungles gonna tax

They get kill = jungler won't tax

You exist = Nightblu3 will farm your lane.

It would be insane to not push the wave as hard as possible after your opponent gets killed.

With how xp is divided, the idea of you pushing that wave without sharing the xp with your jungler, so they effectively would fall behind the enemy jungler for the time they spent killing your laner, is also ridiculous.

Strategically, pushing is the right choice. Economically (from the perspective of benefiting your team), sharing xp during a push is the right choice.

splitting the cs in lane after a kill is legit.. for one .. you push the lane reset the wave and try to pressure the turret , two by pushing your denying the enemy cs as it dies to their turret and it helps them maintain experience and gold cuz unless stupid fed junglers start to fall behind after mid game because their entire team is in the jungle farming camps

Minion tax is basically what junglers say when they're lazy and don't want to explain that ganking and only getting an assist is worth less gold to them than just farming, because of how much time it takes. I usually only take a caster or two, though, if anything at all.

I often get accused of taxing when I'm trying to help push wave, too. If I don't last hit the minion, I'm not trying to tax you, I'm trying to deny the enemy laner XP/Gold, and I'm leeching some XP for myself; please don't ping me away. Help shove then back.

If a jungler gets the kill AND taxes and they aren't just trying to shove wave, or if they tax a cannon/excessive minions, they're being a greedy c*nt.

It is done to shove lanes losing a few minions to a jungler or not getting all the minions as the jungler really doesn't have a large effect on the game but getting a lane shoved into tower can have a huge effect

EndlessSorcerer1 votes

Yes. It is rather common at higher most levels of play.

Im usually nice and say you know what. I get kill you tax an help push wave. You get kill just assist with pushing wave but let me farm the gold ^_^

Jg tax is legit, but, in the situation above it seems like he was a little hard on you. I'm bronze, so maybe my opinion doesn't count as much, but if I get the kill I take three minions. If I don't but we get a kill and I get an assist, ill take 4 minions. If we get summs, a back, nothing im taking cannon and some more minions.

Helping to push the lane is good too, especially after a kill or a back if you know they don't have tp up, cuz then you deny farm and xp. Also junglers do kinda need the xp and gold to stay relevant

If they are a hard carry jungler and you are a tank top. They are prolly gonna use that gold better. Take one for the team.

"Taxing" is a thing. However, like a lot of things in this game, many players don't understand what it is and operate off a simplistic version based on their own ideas. They don't get it; when to do it, when not to do it, or when it is just screwing the laner over. It's not "I gank your lane, I deserve the minion wave." or "Want ganks? Gotta pay your taxes!"

And it kinda sounds like you had one of the latter.

CrazyBear19871 votes

I don't know either. Sometime I just gank to insure a kill and then i leave. I've seen others gank, if they take the kill they leave. If they don't they probably "Tax" 2-3 minions but communication is important. I guess if they help you gank, take your kill and your cs only when your not around, it's okay. but if they do it while your there, its wrong and greedy. then again if your doing really bad, then maybe its better they take it. i don't know, no rules and regulations. Laws and terms are made up for League everyday.
