I've gone 14 consecutive games without getting my primary role. This is not acceptable.

Yenn··77 votes·17,762 views

10 games were played as off role, 3 were dodged because auto-fill, and 1 was played as auto-fill.

I honestly don't even want to play the game if I'm going to have to spend a solid 6 hours playing off roles just to get my main role once. I'd rather just go do something else.

This seriously needs to be looked at.

Mid main?

It has to be, it's hard to empathize with the guys that want to play the most impactful lane in the game but they can't because there are so many ppl trying all to play the same lane.

Tell me what exactly has changed supports so much from before. And while it is true he said it a while ago, he also reaffirmed it last season.

Do you know the music Video for Rise, World's 2018. It highlights season 7. The beginning of the video has an ardent censer hanging high. Season 7 is known by many as Ardent Censer season. Or Ardent Censer meta. Because it was. Ardent Censer was so broken that hyper carries would buy relic shield to let their supp rush ardent censer. Twitch kog jinx kalista and hyper carries became the deciding factor of every game because janna and lulu with censer was just too strong and the adc would never die. Even ardent censer trundle was played in lcs. Patch 6.22 also introduced redemption which allowed supp to influence teamfights from afar or even dead. There was a lot less burst back then so supp could save a carry much easier.

I main mid too and I can honestly say I got my main role 90-95% of the time. (support chosen as secondary)

Why is autofill even a thing for ranked games? You obviously want to play the best you can, therefore you want to play the role (or roles) that you're most comfortable in and the one you're more likely to be able to carry with.

Normals autofill makes sense, in Ranked it should be opt in or out for autofill. Queue timers would probably be longer but at least you'd have to worry about normal inting and not inting because they didn't get their role.

KuroCorbeau4 votes

but the issue here is that not enough people play support, so if no autofill exists, no games can be played. The Qs would be extremely long

Yeah, but I'm honestly not sure which is the lesser of two evils. Autofill which causes people to purposefully int at times, go afk, dodge multiple queues, etc etc. Or no Autofill (possibly opt in autofill? where after so long in queue it asks if you'd like to play your off-role/autofill to shorten your timer) where queues will probably take longer but at least if you lose you'll know it was probably because the other team was better and not because your autofill Supp is a top main or something.

Plus it might encourage people to branch out into other roles to fill the gaps. (Though I honestly don't understand why Supp is the most filled/least played role). Or maybe they could give people some incentive to want to play their best when they're autofilled, a small XP boost maybe? Bonus BE? A small amount of OE?

Maybe they need to delve into why some roles are hated so much and improve them so more people will play the roles that are usually autofilled.

I don't know, Ranked is already difficult enough as it is, it just feels like autofill causes more problems than it solves at times.

I do believe that Supp is the least played roll because of the following reasons:

  1. It is without a doubt the hardest role to play. When u have a bad supp, u lose bot. When u lose bot, the chance that u will also lose the whole game is over 70%.
  2. Supports get none of the glory
  3. A good support takes no kills, but most people prefer killing over winning.

I believe that there needs to be a greater encouragement for people to play it. Autofilling them and basically forcing them to do it, is the wrong way. Maybe awarding them for doing it would encourage more play. Bonus BE would definitely make me wanna start playing as a supp, so i can afford more champs.

Jungle is way harder, imho: you have to care about so many things if you want to do it right! Warding, ganking, farming, counter-farming... at least in low ELO (can't speak for Gold and above, as I've never been there), what often makes the difference is the jungler (camping, above all). The only thing I complain about the current support meta is gold: items should grant a little more gold than they actually do, as it's often hard to build more than 4 items, unless you opt for a full-support build.

Asobi Spirit10 votes

I also wanted to say what you said here, Jungle is roooouuuugh. After the whole XP nerf, it's been common to get lvl 3 and gank early. For some junglers this isnt a problem. Yet when a jungler either needs to gank for xp over gold it can be risky, especially when for example I'm lvl 4 and the lane Im ganking is lvl 5 or 6 even.

Plus the jungler is the most blamed player ever. Your lane falls behind cause your opponent killed you 1v1? Jungler's fault. Jungler misses a gank, hard or easy? (Understandably) Jungler's fault. Bots upset because you wont dive a lane in enemy turret, even if they are low health? Jungler's fault. You get ganked or camped by the enemy (even roamed by top/mid) and are unable to retaliate quickly if at all? (Understandably) Jungler's fault.

We sometimes do the hardest work for little reward. Cause we worry about 3 lanes, 3 epics, 5 champions and sometimes even our own team.

...except support isn't the least played role. JG/Top is. You are most likely to be auto-filled to those 2 roles. Also, hardest to play? Are you living in 2009 or something?

Support hasn't been the least played for a while, and why would they be? They are broken as shit. Top is an atrocious state right now with counterpick galore, and jg is awful to play. Even in my mmr I autofill to one of those 2 roles 99% of the time.

LeafyGreen3 votes

Exactly. This isn't season 5-6 where literally NOBODY played support because it had such a low champion diversity pool and was extremely unfun. You use to literally wait 30 minutes in teambuilder for a support just to instantly leave if they didn't like your team comp - .-

NelsieLisnen2 votes

I'll just share my reasons for not liking supp: My favorite supp is Bard. Pretty much only have room in my heart for him. It doesn't matter that I don't get to farm, do a million damage, I don't mind that I'm short ranged and easy to harass and I couldn't give a shit about others' praise. However, most ADCs are profoundly clueless about what bard does. Most ADCs think Bard is a heal supp and that I'm supposed to save them if they feel like facetanking a thresh hook or morgana bind in a full creepwave. Like, no-one understands bard can't really heal you during a fight, not considerably at least. And most people can't discern when Bard's ult means focus the ulted enemies or focus those out of it. Bard is the only champ I can have fun with in this god forsaken role but it's so frustrating to play with bad teammates that I've quit going for supp altogether, I dodge 100% of the time nowadays.

Right now jungle seems to be the least played roll, from what i've seen picking just "fill". Though support is second.

The problem with that mentality, is that most players, myself included, would rather wait for a game they can enjoy than play 2-3 games they don't enjoy and have a lower chance of winning. If you've been playing all day getting your secondary roll, only to then get filled, you probably wouldn't even want to play that game out. And when that happens, it can lead to worse performance. Then your team may have to deal with playing from behind.

It's not fun for you, its not fun for your team. If you're lucky, you only have to wait 15 minutes to get out of that game. Or you may have to wait 20. Or more. At that point, if a longer queue took 15 minutes, it would be the same delay for a fun game. And no one would have to deal with someone feeding/inting/flaming for those 15 minutes.

Of course, it could also be said that if no one wants to play a certain role, then maybe something is wrong with the role making it unfun to play?

As of the last published numbers ( https://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/developer-corner/VyEXF18K-quick-gameplay-thoughts-march-20) ), Support still held the global lowest play rate by a significant margin, and nearly every region had support as the lowest played. In NA, support was within about 0.5% playrate of jungle, but was technically second least played, even if only by a virtually non-existent margin.

The fun one is Vietnam where support is actually lower than fill. lol

This is 4 months old though, I'd love to see it now after the jungle changes. Not to mention we have to remove iron/bronze because most of them still have the old mentality that support is a ward bot.

It is, but we have no numbers since then, so any assertions we make are uneducated guesses. And, I'd rather make an educated guess based off of old data, than an uneducated guess based off of 'personal feelings'. shrugs

Riot is genuinely a bad company, they have decided that their own community would rather wait in shorter queues than getting their primary roles. I was one game off from plat 3 promos and I get my off role, jg, and had my champion banned and it's infuriating having to play those games out when you don't get your role, because obviously a person's primary role is the role they perform best on. But Riot decided players would rather have 2 minute queue times over 5 at the price of not getting the role they perform best on.

FSRER3 votes

You have Toplane which is barely playable You have Jungle which is barely playable You have Support which is unplayable in solo Queue And then there is Mid and ADC which are both suffering from the other lanes being uplayable because since nobody plays support, most of which a ADC will find will be autofills and Mid can't 1v5 the game effectively. So...yeah

SammyDayspring3 votes

Riot has favored shorter queues over role preference and balanced teams this has probably been in response to constant player whining, but it has made the overall game experience much worse. They need to find a better balance between the two. I would rather have longer queues than these constantly awful games.

I only play mid and adc. I always choose mid as my primary role. Out of my last 20 ranked games, i only got mid 2 times. I even get autofill more often than the Midlane and it is actually starting to get on my nerves. I get Adc 99% of the time which is usually cool, but when you know that you are better on mid, you wanna play mid.

Imagine the implications for a potential queue time in case you have to wait to get your role then. If you can't get into a game for over 40 minutes, would you feel like playing more than you do now? I would say that's a tricky question.

He said he didn't get his primary role in the past 14 consecutive games. That means IN A ROW. If you looked at his match history at the time of posting, that was literally impossible. You even said yourself he had a few mid games and his jg was secondary, on top of a few filled marksman games. Looking at his history from op.gg, in his last 10 games (at the time, not now), he had 3 mid games out of 10. If you looked at it from here, his 11th game (since op.gg only showed the previous 10 at the time) was ALSO mid Qiyana.

How is that 14 consecutive games of off-role?

How am I misinterpreting anything?

Why are you acting like you "owned me" when you just owned yourself?

Who are the 4 "smart ones" that upvoted your post?

  1. OP said he doesn't get mid lane. Specifically, he hasn't gotten mid lane in the last 14 games before posting.

  2. I said "Clearly he gets mid lane. He didn't go anywhere near 14 consecutive games of off-role."
