Disclaimer: I came up with this idea thinking of 2 things

  1. Yorick - he's actually less playable than he used to be.
  2. Alternative play styles - Riot is kinda pushing for and touting these right now. I've thought of several ways to remake Yorick, but the more I've tried the more I've realized how easy it is to finish a project and inevitably realized that other champions do the same thing already, but with a slightly different twist. This is one I think creates a fundamentally different playstyle. However, the theme isn't quite right for Yorick.

Primary Role: Lane Bully / Split Pusher

Passive: Specter: Yorick's lifebar is split evenly between Health (green), and Essence(Blue). Damage taken by Yorick is likewise split evenly between health and essence. Yorick receives only half benefit from bonus attack damage items (and other sources of bonus attack damage). Yorick will die if his life OR essence is reduced to zero. ** Ghouls :** Any time Yorick kills a large minion he will Place a Tombstone at it's location. If not destroyed within 6 seconds, the Tombstone will be replaced by a Ghoul (with current health equal to that which the Tombstone had at the end of that 6 seconds). Ghouls have health and attack damage (and all other stats) Equal to Yorick's own, though they possess no essence. Yorick may have a maximum of 3 ghouls, including himself. (Tombstones are still placed, but will fade to no effect, if maximum ghouls are possessed at end of duration.)

Hosts of the Damned: (Q) Passive: Yorick gains bonus Attack damage, and his ghouls gain bonus movement speed. (the ghouls do not gain this bonus AD, despite Yorick's passive.) active: Yorick shatters the ground in a target area, slowing targets in that area, and commanding the Ghoul nearest to that area to attack foes within it. If an Enemy Champion is nearby to the cast zone, the targeting indicator will snap to that Champion and, on cast, will selectively target that champion, rather than an AOE. Alternatively, Yorick may cast this ability on himself, recalling all Ghouls to return to their normal AI. After a specific Ghoul has been given an order, there is a short delay before they may receive another.

Change Host: (W) Yorick moves his essence to the ghoul nearest your cursor, taking direct control of it, and leaving his previous body to act independently, as a normal Ghoul. After this switch occurs, Yorick's first basic attack will deal bonus damage, and stun his target for 1 second. (Cooldown reduces each level)

Voice of the Grave: (E) Yorick screams in the face of his enemies (~250 range skill shot), dealing moderate damage in a small area, inflicting Fear on minions struck, and blinding enemy Champions.

Manifestation: (R) Yorick separates his essence from all physical vessels, manifesting as a Ghost, for 10 seconds. Yorick may not attack in this form, but is stealthed, may move through units, and may use all abilities normally. Additionally, Yorick's Ghouls gain Massive health regeneration, as well as bonus attack speed during this time.

. . .

Designers Notes on Passive:

  • As a consequence of Yorick's passive, he will have unusually low base stats.
  • Because they do not have essence, Ghouls effectively possess half the amount of health Yorick does, though their actual hit point values will be equal.
  • Ghouls act independently. They attack Aggressive Champions → Aggressive minions → Passive minions → Passive Champions → structures.
  • Yorick heals in an unusual way. Any time Yorick receives healing of any form it is split between essence and health by the following formula: Essence healed = (normal heal amount)[(current essence) / {(current health)+(current essence)} Health healed = (normal heal amount)[(current health) / {(current health)+(current essence)} In this way, any time health and essence are uneven, they will equalize over time. Lifesteal possessed by Yorick will also benefit his Ghouls (they heal themselves, not Yorick)

Designers Notes otherwise:

  • this model makes Yorick a kind of Anti- Zed character. They both possess the ability to switch locations with their doubles, but the doubles themselves serve entirely different purposes. In the case of Zed, they mirror his skills, but cannot move or attack. In the case of Yorick, they move, attack and tank damage, but cannot use abilities.
  • Yorick does not have mana. The essence bar acts effectively as a second resource bar, complicating life for the player enough that I didn't want them to have to worry about other costs.
  • Yorick's playstyle is based around commanding a small troupe of warriors, rather than just one. It gives him amazing zoning, and other utility; and if used well can let him sustain for extremely long periods in lane. If managed poorly, Yorick can be killed by reducing his health OR essence to zero, potentially while the other is still full.
  • The E is a little … well, I wasn't sure which debuff to use.

P.S. - Feedback is good. any suggestions. even telling my why it's bad or terrible is appreciated.

One problem I see if the whole essence thing, why even have it? why not use energy? If all it's doing is acting as a second health pool and what about essence regen? If I get into a fight and both bars are say taken down to half my hp will regen yes but what about my essence, if there are no items for essence regen that means next fight in essentially going in with half essence which means faster death.

I play Yorick on a regular basis and find him to be in a sweet spot atm. Very high burst early/mid game and good sustain late game. Overall his kit works very well imo.

This sounds.... interesting.

Not a big Yorick player, but would be interesting.
