Warwicks attack speed feels really clunky

When I play him it feels as though he has a set attack speed no matter how much aa speed I build, unless his w is active on a target.

This is due largely to his base attack speed. In League, every attack speed item you build increases the champion's attack speed by a percent of a champion's base attack speed. Since Warwick has a massive attack speed steroid in his kit, Riot decided to nerf his base by a lot, which results in this clunky feeling when his w is deactivated.

A similar situation is on Jinx, where her Pow Pow gives such a huge steroid that she was given a low base attack speed as a result. This is why whenever you don't have any Q stacks, or are in rocket form, your auto attacks feel a lot slower than most champions.

Honestly I think they should reduce the bonus as he gets from his w, boost his base a little more so it feels less clunky, but add in a passive to his w so that he can move whilst autoing (even if it's half speed or some shit) on targets under %hp per level of w, just to keep up with the bloodthirsty enraged beast motif. I don't really play ww anymore even though he used to be one of my favs but it never made sense for him to gain AS but not be able to really use it since he's melee

I can't really tell because his early build (the one I use most often) primarily focuses on health; haven't built items like BotRK in a long time...

have you tried lethal tempo or hail of blades? (if your into that off meta playstyle)

As a WW player... I honestly have no idea what you're talking about. The only awkward thing with Warwicks attack speed is that he can animation cancel his auto attack by accident with his howl, but that's just regular game play stuff.

If you mean why isn't WW really strong anymore, well he still is, but mostly it's because the things that they centered the character around don't exist in the same way anymore.

Red smite has been nerfed. Cinderhulk used to have wider range and more damage on champions. The combination of runes and masteries he used to take aren't the same in the current system.

As others have said most high elo WW players (aka not me, so people on challenger replays etc) only build Cinder anymore if they just don't want to get bursted. The usual build is Warrior atm and build bruiser.
