Reminder that Missions Should NOT be available in Ranked

DeadUnborn··9 votes·893 views

I just got today's missions. One requires you to kill wards, another one win with IE and Randuins. Now imagine I am going against a heavy AP team and we lose because the tank buys a Randuins, imagine we lose because the ADC rushes IE instead of an optimal build. Imagine the enemy gets a shutdown because people are fighting over who kills the ward

If you want to do this in normals, FINE, but keep it out of ranked please

You can always sell all of your items to buy the ones you need in a mission before the game ends as well

DeadUnborn1 votes

LOL didn't think of that. Still I'd rather just have them in normals

Just remember that there are only 4 rando's on your team an 5 on the other, so if the quests cause people to play sub-optimally and you don't try the quests in ranked, on average this should have the effect of making it easier for you to win games. That being said, I stopped playing ranked because I don't play consistently enough any more for it to be worthwhile.

Still want to play a "pure" experience while in ranked.. justifying I had a shitty game which is compensated because the opposite team will have one next game is not a good solution IMO

These are all things that should be happening anyway. I've been playing 1-2 games a day and have no problems with it. You get a week to complete.

Even the wards, if you are buying control wards (every lane should) you will get this in no time.

I've been building randuins for forever now because it was the secret shutoff switch for ardent sensor.

IE... That is built every game.

All the missions, aside from the stupid pre-mades, are simply good game mechanics (they are secretly teaching people to play better: vision, objective control, cs, etc). They belong in ranked.

DeadUnborn1 votes

I won a ranked game because the enemy jugnler took ignite instead of flash

Also people could try not to hit the ward and wait for the other person to hit it so THEY can get the last hit. I have seen it happen before when people try to do it just for the last hit gold. That mission only encourages people to behave like this further.

The specific missions like all TP or having a certain item are just dumb. It's already hard enough to win with all the stupid crap in the game, without forcing us to win under certain conditions (especially for a few points towards a possible skin we will never use).

Kirius Dark1 votes

Cry more... that quest doesnt force you to buy dumb shit that the game doesnt call for, just do it in your next game then. Also you can just go to base before winning, sell your stuff, buy IE, sell, buy randuins, sell, buy morello. All 3 done

DeadUnborn1 votes

Mmm did you read the post? I'm not complaining about mission being hard, I'm complaining about people doing dumb shit in ranked to get them. For example I just ROFL-stomped a Kayn that took ignite to the jungle because he wanted to get a mission (I'm plat 2 mind you). Of course, I just invaded him over and over and won easily. Not fair for his team

The stupid ones like the all TP ones, yeah. The one like kill 3 wards is fine though or place a control ward. Even the Master Pass ones are fine with "Win two games where you earn at least 12K in each", "Spend 80K gold", "Deal 50K physical damage to champions", "Deal 50K magic damage to champions".

I really hate these "play a different role" ones. "Win a game with ignite" took me forever cause I suck with using ignite and don't play all in champions, and I managed to do it because I forgot to change my summoner back to exhaust when I picked Nami.

Now, I have to wonder is can I buy an item and undo it? I mean, saving up 3400 gold as a support or something could be really hard to all out buy and undo immediately, but it never says you need to win with it in your inventory. Loop hole maybe? I mean, might be easy to do in ARAM cause assuming you are good at dodging, it's possible to back/die with 3.4K, buy one, undo, buy another, undo, buy the last, undo, and then buy what you want.

DeadUnborn1 votes

While you make valid points, why would it be harmful to only have mission in normal. Just beat a kayn that was playing smite ignite easily. Really sucked for the enemy team. Because he had no flash I just invaded his jungle over and over as rek sai and he couldn't do nothing

DemainaNyx3 votes

It's not harmful to make them normal only, but the ones who aren't changing your gameplay shouldn't hurt a ranked game. I mean, I'd be happy if my teammates actually tried to place more wards and clear wards in my ranked games to be honest.

The last one of kill a Rift Herald and a Baron in the same game sorta changes your gameplay, since it's encouraging you to go for a Rift that you might not be able to do, and it encourages people to go for Barons that might be risky because "I just want to finish this damn mission already" as my one teammate put it.

But doing 50K magic damage over 3 normal games or 3 ranked games doesn't feel like it should make much difference so long as people aren't actively suiciding just to hit one more ability for more damage.

What if they pick a suboptimal pick -- say Veigar -- for the match just cause they want to be done with the mission quickly, even if they are autofilled top or soemthing?

DemainaNyx1 votes

Cause no one ever picks sub-optimally in ranked, right?

I've been in plenty of Riven, Zed, Lee Sin, Draven comps. Or that one Ahri tops, Xerath mid, Nidalee, Kog'Maw comp. The missions might cause people to choose sub optimal picks, but you wouldn't know that unless the person said, "I just wanted to finish this mission" cause people do dumb things all the time. Which, honestly, if you're picking something that doesn't fit in ranked just because you want to, you aren't playing ranked to rank up.

I mean, enchanter supports do very little damage in most games compared to the rest of their team, but surely over a few games you could get this mission without doing anything different. I just played one game of Dark Star and did 7K magic damage and 1.6k Physical in 9 minutes. So, if you are seriously playing a bad pick in ranked just for a mission, when you could literally play a Dark Star game or an ARAM game to fill in the last few points you need for a fraction of the time SR takes, that's not someone interested in their ranked game to begin with.

bronze and plat are very different buddy

DemainaNyx1 votes

Those were Gold team comps.

And if you are going to play the rank card, then why would someone who's plat make a stupid decision for a mission? You can't say "Plats are smarter than that" and then have a thread complaining about your plat teammates making dumb decisions over a mission.

DeadUnborn1 votes

People get carried with a premade and do stupid stuff because they didnt earn their place. There are a lot less than in bronze tho

DuskDaUmbreon1 votes

Why? A lot of the missions have criteria that can be done in ranked, and that should always be done in any match.

Last weeks: Earn 100k gold. Why the flying fuck should that not be enabled in ranked? It's something that you literally cannot avoid doing if you play. Everyone earns gold in every match. You could make a case for the herald/baron one, since it could detract from a more optimal objective, but it'd be a weak case.

This week: Kill wards. Well, you're supposed to kill wards, so no issue here. And if people are fighting over killing a ward, guess what? It has a maximum of 4 hitpoints. It doesn't matter how many people are fighting over it, it's going to die quickly. Nobody's going to be able to kill someone else that quickly. Win with IE and win with Randuin's. Well. There's only one marksman that usually doesn't use IE, and that's Ezreal (and he probably does, anyways). A decent number of assassins and skirmishers also pick it up occasionally, since it has a lot of AD. Any marksman that doesn't buy IE is an idiot. Nobody's going to rush it over anything else, unless they would have anyways. You could make a case for Randuin's, as not every team needs it. But it's not a useless item, even against high AP comps. The active slow is powerful, and useful against pretty much everyone. And you're not going to see a team without a crit user, anyways.

Your argument is completely pointless. Why should I have to complete a simple mission that I'm going to do in any ranked match I want to win in a normal match? Hell, even the troll-like mission of the melee ones was premade exclusive, so that you couldn't screw over someone else no matter how you tried to do it.

DeadUnborn1 votes

I won a ranked game because the enemy ugnler took ignite instead of flash

DuskDaUmbreon1 votes

So? Shaco does that in every match. Hecarim sometimes does as well. Besides, one example of one person screwing up for a reason you assumed that it was because they didn't have flash.

It's very feasible for just about any mission to get done by regular play in a ranked game.

DeadUnborn1 votes

No, only shaco takes it optimally. This is what I am talking about, the mission system skews player decision making (FYI it was a kayn that took it and he lost horribly because I just invaded him over and over)

what I am talking about in the thread is the general examples of what missions in ranked affect, what you replied to is just an example that validates what I am describing does happen

Just because it is feasable that you can obtain mission palying normaly does not mean it won't skew player behaviour of they try to work towards the mission rather than winning

Mindspeaker1 votes

if you don't like peole doing missions stay out of ranked please and just play with friends.

DeadUnborn1 votes

wait what? I don't follow you.... yep I'm trying, honestly, but can't. If I want to rank up -- the purpose of ranked -- why shouldn't I play ranked? XD

SwiftKitten881 votes

you were facing an ap heavy team? WUT? [zombie-brand-mindblown]

DeadUnborn1 votes

corki adc, malz mid, maokai top, sej jungle lulu support. Sure, corki is not meta but you have no benefit from buying randuins there.

That was also an example mind you, there are many situarions were you might want to go thornmail instead of randuins, specially with ardent and on hit builds being so strong right now
