Hey there TrentonGW! 4% S1/S2 weeb here (iamthe4%.jpg). Just dropping by to give my two cents. I'll try to keep it nice and short so I don't lose your attention. <3
The game has changed dramatically since S1/S2. The game is heavily centered around team play and the snowball effect. Much more than it used to be. Rito made sure of it with the growing popularity of Esports. They want to make the game fun and interesting to watch. Unfortunately, this makes it more and more difficult to play ranked solo/duo queue. A permanent drake buff that doesn't expire? A Rift Herald buff that can last over half the match? Not only a baron buff but also a true damage elder dragon buff for the whole team? This just reeks of a snowball effect. Getting one buff makes it easier to get the next one and the next one and the next one. Back in the day there was just baron, and the dragon only gave your team gold. With that gold you could buy more items and makes it easier to win, sure, but it always came back to skill. But now the possibility of getting three infernal drakes for a 24% increase in AP/AD among other buffs? There is absolutely no item that can give you that kind of a buff. Once an enemy team can start gathering these buffs it makes it such an incredible struggle for you and your team to keep up.
Sure there is the possibility of your team to come back, but that's just it, it requires a team, now more than ever. And unless you play semi-competitively with a group of your friends where you practice often to win games, the game is not the same it used to be back in the day. This is one of the reasons why the game has been dropping off in popularity. It's no fun to get absolutely rofl stomped. I tell my friends this game is pretty much get rofl stomped or rofl stomp the enemy team, and honestly it's not too fun for a lot of people to just rofl stomp the enemy team. It's like beating a high school football team with the Patriots. It doesn't seem like a challenge. And it is certainly not fun at all to get rofl stomped with almost no chance of coming back. No one likes that helpless feeling. And I'm not even going to talk about how much more toxic this community has gotten over the years...
I can honestly say with my 3,000+ games played that the frequency of having an actual good game ("gg") becomes more and more infrequent as time goes on. It's very unfortunate after so many years of playing this game that it's going in the direction that it is for trying to climb the elo ladder.
RIP Rito
