I cant stand the current state of the game anymore

Moonfall Saber··54 votes·2,681 views

Ive tried so hard to get used to this new game that riot is forcing down our throats and I cant enjoy it. I do not have fun AT ALL when I play anymore. Win or lose I hate the game. Yet at this point I am addicted to it. Its like the cheap hooker who you know has aids but you keep banging anyway. I could be 25/0/100 and I am not having fun. Maybe some of this has to do with the terrible matchmaking that seems to have just popped up this season but good luck everyone. [slayer-jinx-catface]

The issue that I have is that they removed anything and everything that makes you actually think.

Rune/Mastery Choices used to take thought, now its just, this gives me lots of damage. Smite buffs on jungle creeps used to take thought... Jungle order mattered if you didn't want to be obliterated by jungle creep, now you take whatever is closest. We didn't need delayed burst because you couldn't 100-0 someone, now almost everyone can 100-0 in 1 combo. You had to think about how you wanted to splitpush/group/siege... now you just group up and force a push down. Kits like orn had their skill expression removed with the "ignore cc" for other buffs.

It is a systematic issue of removing any individual skill besides button mashing.

Dude what?

Runes/masteries took thought? You´d take a gander online and suddenly youd find what the pro´s would use in 100 games out a 100.

And chances were, they´d use the same setup for those two in 80-90 outa all those games, only sometimes did you pick a page that had more armor or more magic resist in midlane for instance when dealing with something like old LB to avoid dying instantly at lvl 3.

Jungler order is no different, top tier jungler back then could easily clear whatever they wanted whenever they wanted, and now that is the truth as well.

Only difference is that some junglers currently struggle to clear raptors and krugs well, and thats about it.

100-0 was faaaaar more common, almost every damn assassin was nerfed because they could do it, several divers and juggernauts got gutted for doing it.

Even tanks ate repeated nerfs for doing it, even if the end result was that instead of instantly killing a squishy they just stand on them and kill the squishy eventually while not dying themselves.

Think about how to splitpush, group or siege? Yeah because there were a lot more generalist picks and builds back then, you´d simply go and do whatever suited you the most.

Now champions and teams have more defined strengths which cause them to do somethings better, so naturally they wont think and just go for whatever they are good at.

And while there are issue´s you missed the marks by a long shot ._.

Go watch the dissusion video Hashashin made for February 6th, it was good enough to get him a temporary spot on the design and testing teams and he goes through exactly what´s different and whats bad.

There are more viable options.

While there are some that are a bit better or have a better synergy, like overheal+healer support, there are still more options to choose from.

Higher damage in runes? Can build more defensively or a bit more sustain.

More defensive or sustain in runes? Can afford to build more damage.

Before you´d never switch AD or attackspeed for lifesteal, it just was not worth it.

All of the precision keystones work for the marksmen, and several of the subtalents are good to choose from.

Then there is a bit of individual differences in secondary trees as well, for one i play, Ashe, you can pick several combinations between inspiration, sorcery and domination and its all viable and fully usable.

I for one like running approach velocity and boots or stopwatch on her when i have a lane that likes to run away.

Domination if i think they want to be trading with me.

And finally sorcery if i need ults and lategame.

Before i selected between 2 pages with the only difference being higher armor or higher magic resist and that was the general player as well.

But the biggest profiteers were the junglers overall though.

Yeah dude, it sure took A LOT of thought into going the 21-9-0 , 9-21-0 and 0-21-9 mastery page and a rune page filled with a bunch of stats

so much strategic thinking.

GigglesO18 votes

Took a lot more thought when you could dump 30 points into one tree, or even just split them up into 3 different trees. You had to make choices of do I want damage or do I want tank, or utility, or some combination of all 3. Now you pretty much just get it all in each tree.

kurnubego3 votes

It was garbage generally with many choices of little impact. Runes on the other hand served for nothing other than noob trap gimmick.

Game does not become meaningfully more complex if you just introduce some gimmicky interfaces which do not directly tie to in game decision making.

Abibyama2 votes

No, just no.

You don’t get it all in the Precision tree as it offers little to no utility and tankiness

GigglesO10 votes

So MS+Heal (Fleet) Isn't utility. Excess healing converting to a shield? Mana restore isn't utility? Healing 12% of missing HP doesn't make you harder to kill aka tankier? Tenacity and Lifesteal is obviously damage and not a utility/tank stat.

So healing/shield, movement speed and mana restore is all damage... Sure thing friend.

Abibyama2 votes

I said little to no utility and tankiness

Now tell me how inspiration tree gives damage and tankiness and how sorcery and domination gives tankiness

GigglesO7 votes

Summon Aery shield? Nullifying orb shield?

Taste of blood and ravenous hunter give healing that make you effectively tankier.

Inspiration I’ll give you doesn’t really give any damage, but stopwatch is pretty good defense.

Biscuits and longer potions both contribute to in lane sustain that is effectively making you tankier. I could however give you that this is utilityish.

Technically cosmic insight 5%cdr allows for damage to occur more often.

Inb4 defense tree gives damage? are you kidding me? What’s grasp and aftershock doing?

Snowman Arc2 votes

Honestly, this rune system needs way more thinking than the previous system. I always struggle to find the optimal way to set up my runes as a Janna. Do I take Inspiration 2nd for free boots? Do I take Resolve so I can be a bit tankier? These little decisions will actually will win you more game than you can imagine.

Except you had the choice of accepting from a range of different flat value stats or some scaling stats that make more of a difference late game. They could've been better balanced, but choosing between going for a bit more early AP, armor, MR, movement speed, etc actually diversified the game more than a tree that encourages even supports into going whatever builds the most damage. At least last year some supports took Windspeaker's or the defense keystone instead of going for Thunderlords all the time.

GayFluffyUnicorn8 votes

I mean people can say wht they want. Last season i had like five different rune pages and always different masteries i went on gp now i go the same shit on every champ. I knew beforehand this system will be garbage and it is. Powercreeped the fuck out of the game. Nothing has been balanced. Same meta, same champs nothing changed. Entire tree dedicated to leave everything as it is.

RainXBlade1 votes

People only took Windspeaker's during that time because Ardent was stupidly strong on shield supports and Windspeaker's was basically icing on the cake for it.

The subtlety of the old rune pages was what made them powerful. They had generally very powerful early-game effects, and if you mis-played your early game, then you progressively lost harder the rest of the game. It was a balancing act to make your runes and masteries pay off in game. It required alot of fore-thought and knowing the subtle effect the masteries had on your strength throughout the game. The macro game was less complex, but the micro-game and mechanics and ability to mentally calculate trades in game was more complex and made the difference between a great player and a god-tier player. Now, the macro-game is determined by your runes, and calculation is almost completely irrelevant, because there is always a less risky course of action to take, if you cannot calculate the outcome of a team-fight and outplay opponents with a novel mechanical decision (like flashing to start a team fight). Flashing to start a team-fight is completely off limits now. It just doesn't pay off, because the alternative macro strategy (map pressure via lane control and vision) is too easy and safe and guaranteed.

I had 8 different rune pages and 2 different mastery pages for GP alone

Flat AD vs AD Flat AD vs AP Armor pen vs AD Armor pen vs AP Scaling AD vs AD Scaling AD vs AP Armor pen + Flat HP vs AD Flat AD + Flat HP vs AD

TLD GP WLB GP

This allowed me to take the best rune/mastery setup possible to any matchups and squeeze every bit of advantage I could get over the opponent via the runes. This allowed me to play GP in various roles and playstyles (Top, Mid / Agrressive, Passive) and allowed me to play GP how I wanted to play him.

I recognized mistakes based on the runes the enemy had chosen. He didn't respect my damage and went full on the offensive? Great! Now I just have to farm until my sheen and the lane is over.

There was a certain skill expression players could have shown while selecting or creating rune pages.

Now I have 2 runepages

With more or less the same playstyle

With like maybe swapping 1 sub rune.

Wow

Mid GP just got a shit ton harder to play because I basically have Armor runes selected all the time. Top GP became the most dumb shit ever to face and to play as (Because there is only 1 playstyle up there and that is to Q the opponent to get Klepto procs all day).

GP got balanced around that concept of "Q the opponent all the time". With the nerfs he recieved the passive playstyle of him just got nigh unviable (just farm and not Q the opponent 24/7).

It's like... why? Why did we just throw out the concept of runes and released masteries renamed?

I get that 80% of the runes weren't viable and cost an arm and a leg but it sure as hell was better than... this

Votable Jester1 votes

I mean I took scaling runes (oftentimes 20% scaling CDR) to go with my late game focused playstyle. I could then get extremely aggressive items while still reaching 40/45% CDR.

I miss being able to get 20% CDR outside items.

Gathering Storm does work a bit towards this too though. It's just much more sudden spikes than the scaling runes.

Close approximation. Last sentence is true. There is no element of calculation in the game now. Risky kills are not rewarded. Entering a team fight at the right time and chasing to get a pentakill de-optimizes your map pressure and gives enemies an opportunity to get back into the game. Currently, the most rewarding path is to make efficient kills and go push a lane, rotating between many objectives and accumulating a slow, steady map pressure lead. The game is also too complex to bother paying attention to mechanical skills. It's all a top-down planning game now. Mechanical skills don't matter any more. Timing your opponents' and allies' spell rotations and summoner spell cooldowns and focusing on micro-level game-play is drastically dwarfed in effectiveness by playing safe and making regular "deposits" into the vision game and lane-pressure game. Lastly, it is more punishing to roam from a losing lane than rewarding, should your roam result in a positive outcome for your team.

I would love to play League of Legends Season 2, similarly to how Runescape re-released Runescape 1.0 as a special feature. Every season after Season 4 has sucked.

  1. Runes are a meh issue. They're pretty new and they are actively working on fixing and improving them so I'm not really that worried.

  2. Jungle stuff is bang on. I agree with you 100%.

  3. As an assassin main, delayed burst hit us the most. Which is funny because we should be the ones bursting not 90% of the champs that can burst you.

  4. About splitting and seigeing etc. I think they are working on helping that right now too. Still waiting for tower buffs.

  5. Agreed, removing skill expression is about the worst thing they can do to a champion (or gamemode: SEE ARAM CHANGES).

Add in joke turrets, easy turret diving, and ridiculous amounts of damage and you have a glorified Call of Duty/Counterstrike game in a league skin. Anyone see the problem here? Once Riot was sold to Tencent it became about increasing the player base to sell more skins which meant recruit CoD/CSGO junkies and cater the game to them.

No it hasn't. It has been in flux since then but over 90% of the friends in my friends list basically stopped playing regularly or left all together after Season 6 started because that's when it became shit.

Yeah, that sure did happen, since Feb 2011 ie the start of Season 1, when Tencent bought out around 93% of Riot's shares. Oh, hang on..

People really should be less quick in pulling the "finger", and see Riot and its devil eye to eye, rather than being busy finding scapegoats to point to.

I blame the eSport mindset. Everything has to be quick, bitesize eyeporn so people don't get bored and plays happen off the bat, level 1.

Literally. Everything has to be Overwatch. You group together, ram yourself into the enemy team and tah dah. That's the game. Objectives are just what the team winning the fight gets.

RainXBlade2 votes

I agree with you. I don't like it when games are catered to competitive, and that is what League is becoming. I remember when this game wasn't too team oriented and that you could single-handedly carry games as long as you could snowball right, especially for top laners like Riven back then.

ZaneShadow6 votes

Well, I’m going to be an optimist in the crowd.

I really enjoy the game. Ya I have matches that are terrible, or I stomp so hard it just feels bad for the enemy team.

However! There are those magic games. The ones that feel so great to play, where it’s dead even, we have our fed memeber and they have theirs.

Perhaps another lane is behind but they didn’t give up on csing. No adc got fed... to much. But your team has their head on straight. They know target prioritization. They get who on the enemy team could carry the fight and they need to die.

But your enemy is the same. A true game of chess as you try and set fight lines with your bronze teammates, you stay calm and trust your team (disputes them not warranting it). Then the fight happens. That game ending fight. 40+ minutes in, the game ends. Win or Loose, you know you played your best, and maybe improved a little.

You can type ggwp and mean it. After game chat, you find the cool guy on the enemy team and get to see things from their side. Then it’s time to que for a game you know won’t be as good, but satisfied for the day none the less.

Ifneth1 votes

The only thing that can ruin a game is when someone’s not trying or being toxic. Otherwise, win or lose, it’s pretty fun.

Votable Jester1 votes

It is annoying that one of those conditions for a good game is that specifically no adc got fed.

I played a game yesterday where the enemy Kog + Lulu got 3 kills at one point after having died to a gank earlier. Off those 3 kills Kog got a quick rageblade and proceeded to murder anyone in his huge range. Whenever we tried getting on him he'd shred us down incredibly quickly and tank through everything with Lulu's support and their Mundo throwing Knight's Vow on the Kog.

It's just such a pain how many tools have been added to the game so the rest of the team can help support the adc.

Also IE RFC and shiv doing 60% my HP in one auto if the auto also crits. I'm guessing most of you are older players, but with the old rune/mastery system you would get high level players going into low level games with all these runes and ruining the game for the low level players. Trust me i know , when my exp progression slowed to a stand still because every game i had no chance i left for a couple of years. the new system may not be perfect and i might not have the same level of experience you guys do , but I rarely use the exact same rune page for every champ, because every champ has it's niche. I do use similar runes for similar champs but every page gets tuned specifically for that champ.

I think it's because they're slowly turning the game into a button masher instead of a strategy game. Most of the time my thought process is - Will I be able to 100% them in 1.2 seconds? Everything in the games overturned to do way too much.

XvWrathfulvX1 votes

My biggest problem with the game is the fact that champs can build full tank and still burst you down with one spell rotation. Its fine(albeit a little annoying) on champs like Taric and Malphite who have armor scalings built into their kit, (although I still believe offense shouldn't scale with defense.) But I just wnet against a full tank Mordekaiser as Yorick and he was consistently out damaging me when the only damage item he had was Titanic Hydra. Why is it that Riot wants to make itemization for AP champs more expensive and less usefull but still allows full tank champions to burst like a fed mid laner. It makes no god damn sense to me.

Lord Phazanor 1 votes

It's been some weeks now that I only play a bot game a day for the FWotD. I think I'll just stop until they (eventually) rework Mordekaiser. If they fail that (again), then it'll be over. I still had lots of good times on this game, but I guess everything ends at some point, sadly.

Deáth by Snu Snu1 votes

I've been playing this game off and on since season 2, and I think I've finally had enough... The game just isn't the same anymore and I can not stand the things they have changed about the game. The only lane that matters is bot lane and there is no more strategy. It's just group with your fed bot lane and win the game. If your bot lane loses you might as well surrender at 15 unless you want a 50 minute game...
