Iceborn Gauntlet Total cost reduced to 2700 from 2850 Armor increased to 65 from 60 No longer grants 30 AP CDR increased to 20% from 10% Size of slow zone now increases with bonus armor http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BHSsJX7MzxE/VjLdFAm89QI/AAAAAAAAzjo/FOTTwLkhP-k/s320/ibg.jpg (If only Rammus passive increased his Base AD)

Mercury's Treads Total cost decreased to 1100 from 1200 Tenacity lowered to 20% from 35%

Elixir of Iron Now grants +300 HP No longer reduces effectiveness of slows by 25%

Plus armor penetration has been overall nerfed. 35% Total Armor -> 40% Bonus Armor is still a reduction in my book. To summarize, we aren't entirely screwed.

UPDATE: There is also a POSSIBLE bug on the PBE to where the AoE damage on Iceborn Gauntlet (not damage to the target) also scales with Armor. Likely a bug, but we will see.

For reference, you would need to have seven times more bonus armor than base for the new Whisper upgrades to be a damage buff against you.

The new Whisper is a durability buff for basically everyone-

-who isn't Mundo.

Meep Man4 votes

Considering Rammus also has the highest base armor in the game. Great!

To be honest, I am not saddened at the thought of less Threshes being picked.

He's such an insanely boring champion he will only be played if he's overpowered,he's getting a major rework for a reason.

He's such an insanely boring champion

Opinion. The mere fact of crushing Riven in lane is fun and wonderful on its own.

he will only be played if he's overpowered

Ironically he is a powerful counterpick against 3 of the most picked champions in the game. Riven Zed LeeSin. Even when he was slightly overtuned (when his passive dealt damage based on mana) he wasnt a picked champion.

he's getting a major rework for a reason.

He is getting a rework because his supporting (sadly his main role) is severely outclassed, not because Taric is weak.

Yeah,no.

Thinking taric isn't something which the vast majority of people will see as crazy boring is just being in denial.

You can also pick garen for that. It doesn't matter, his kit is so lame he needs to be really fucking strong before people would consider playing something as boring as him.

No,he's getting a rework because he is basically an item at the moment, not necessarily a weak item, but playing an item doesn't appeal to most people.

I dunno, the old Evelynn used to have more pickrate than the current Taric and she was just a walking Ward pre-S2 rework. lol.

Need Gold 4 Tent1 votes

She actually worked like rengar does now, only that she's an ap nuke. pre-pre-rework, when she had her stun, gosh... those were the days. WTF WHO STUNNED M.. gray screen

Though, back then defense items were A LOT stronger and she could be countered with just 1 simple MR item (which players in my elo range never built :p ). Same people complaining about AP tristana and release LB (though I do admit that her burst was kind of BS).

No one cares about thresh besides thresh mains he crowds out every other support when he is good.and he has been good since first released

I believe the actual number is you need to have ~700 armor (assuming ~100 base armor + ~600 bonus armor at this point) for the new LW to be more effective than the old one

Update:

This is the AoE Radius with 678 armor (thats a lot but LOOK AT THAT SIZE)

http://leagueoflegends.wikia.com/wiki/File:Hartmanclan_Iceborn_Gauntlet.png

What does an average Rammus have with an armor build? Like 400 armor without his W, then 520 with? More or less?

That....is awesome! I can't wait to play Taric with this.

What if kog builds magic damage on hit? It looks viable for kog to be an ap marksman, with gunblade, nashors, runaans, deathcap, something else, maybe rageblade (this works now b/c of high attack speed for w passive, increased scaling on w, and gunblade sustaining off all damage including w passive). magic damage on hit would be a huge problem for rammus b/c it will greatly reduce returned damage from thornmail and also forces rammus away from armor itemization.

I thought on-hit magic damage was returned by Thornmail?

Great Ozymandius1 votes

I'm pretty sure on hit damage in general is not returned by thornmail, including bork damage, wits end damage, and devourer damage.

Sire Hippington1 votes

and then you notice that you effectivly pay 2850 g for 65 armor and 20%cdr, and a spellblade effect on a champ with ok base ad and no low cd skill and no spellweaving, which ends with getting 1 spellblade proc every ~6sec, while you target is taunted for the entire duration of the slow fiels... So yea, not a great item, probably not even ok on the armordillo.

Meep Man3 votes

65 Armor and 20% CDR is huge on a Tank. Plus, its price was reduced to 2700. Also, Rammus gains 3.5 base AD per Level and starts with about 56 attack damage. Also, notice it's AoE, meaning Rammus can contribute to a team fight for more than just one target, which his current, usual weakness.

If you aren't excited about Iceborn Gauntlet, I guess you could be excited as a Rammus main for the tenacity reduction across the board and Elixir of Iron now giving health.

Sire Hippington2 votes

to be honest, the biggest rammusbuff that no one has seen yet is the gunblade change. Gunblade now heals off ALL damage done. ALL. That means his W, thornmail, cinderhulk, ult - it all now heals you. 4tank items+gublades makes it really, really hard to take down rammus. And the slow active often catches people of guard, no one expects it from rammus.

Meep Man2 votes

I actually haven't seen that change. DANG! That helps a LOT of champions who are more focused on stuff like this. Is a really late game item if you do pick it up though.

Quort1 votes

Gunblade buffs?! Oh snap! I'm bringing out the Akali!

Meep Man1 votes

Actually, wouldnt this be an Akali nerf since most of her damage was from spells anyways and the spell vamp on the item was technically nerfed.

Great Ozymandius1 votes

Akali also gets something over 100 magic damage late game on hit from her passive, which does not benefit from spellvamp on live. Not sure how it nets out though.

Quort1 votes

I don't know, Im not sure of the exact changes... Healing from all sources of damage seemed like a bonus but perhaps there are trade offs im not aware of... I'll check later!

FistOfSharkiesha1 votes

While the AR pen itself will be slightly weaker, the item is much more accessible and stronger overall with it's other half. Because of the giant killer you can basically ruin a tank with 1 item.

Meep Man3 votes

Rammus don't care about no GW so that upgrade isn't good against him. I think LDR, the other one, might make some impact, but not nearly enough to help a lot. Im guessing this is how the damage will be caculated:

Rammus has (for simplicity's sake) 500 armor, with 400 of that being bonus. 40% bonus armor penetration reduces that armor down to: 240 bonus armor, so he has effectively 340 armor now. Old LW would reduce it by total armor, reducing it down to 325 armor. So Rammus now has 340% more effective health against physical damage rather than 325% more effective health against physical damage.

Ok, so now Rammus probably is taking the full blow of LDR's 15% bonus damage. Rammus with 340 armor gets 77.27% damage reduction. So an attack that would deal 100 damage now deals 22.73 physical damage. This is with armor penetration in mind. Now we have to add the 15% damage bonus. Rammus now takes 26.1395 physical damage, taking 3.4095 more physical damage. With Old LW, Rammus has 325 armor, so he would get 76.47% damage reduction. Rammus takes 23.53 damage from a 100 damage basic attack. Thats it with old last whisper.

So, Rammus takes around ~7-8.5% more damage IF the enemy gets the full effect from the new LW upgrade.

Therefore, while it makes enough impact to be noticeable, I wouldn't say it makes enough for me to consider it a major nerf of any kind.

Need increased base AD?

item 3053

Might be hard to get the passive off, but hey ho more base AD ._.
