League of Legends 1 is wearing me out, I need some hype. Where's number 2, time to start over.

No, they said they don't want to jump on the hype-train like the others

Unironically this is what they'd do.

Port all their characters into a new, better engine. Graphical overhaul. Have patches devoted to porting characters from factions. Gameplay/Client/etc. tweaks. Better custom modes.

I'd take that any day over the current game tbh

I would love it too boss.

Unfortunately the current game works well enough and I doubt Riot would want to abandon the code base, no matter how problematic it currently is to their work.

If you have proficient employees, this becomes a non issue...

Naw, it's not about proficient employees. It's a common thing in the tech industry that trying to utterly replace your code is one of the worst things you can do. There's also a monetary cost of sending employees/coders/etc. to literally make a new version of the current thing you have.

Because of these reasons, it's only really viable/desirable if you are completely, utterly incapable of doing something in the engine and/or you're so far removed from the original league that it'd be profitable to create the "same" game in a new engine. (As DOTA2 was made because it was so far removed from WC3 as well as it being a new company)

Well, if what you've got is flawed/not working, I'd think in the tech industry you fucking fix it. Absolutely no customer/client would accept sub par work from me, (although I'm in the networking industry) It either works or it doesn't. Trust me, I understand what is involved here more than most, and I know FOR A FACT it's a matter of laziness and not wanting to do it/spend the money for fixes. How else could we have problems that span YEARS and go unresolved, or are still unresolved to this day (death recap, for example) It's the business model of every company on this planet, to try to get the absolute maximum output with the absolute minimum input. Also I was not suggesting to re code the entire game.

I work as a software developer in the tech industry. We have a product that was in need of an over haul and my team said "lets scrap it and start over" well now we have an old system that is falling apart and a half baked new platform that wee need to maintain

Lesson I learning, if it took years to a make don't assume you can remake it in less time, especially if you need to keep the new one running.

LOL is in the same boat. Ya they could take 2 year off to make a new game, but then they would loose all there players. if they go half and half then the current game suffers an the new one teaks twice as long.

Honestly if they were to release a second LoL. They should either bring all characters from the first game but carefully balance them individually (to prevent the problems of the current game from repeating) and change/remove/improve the other elements of League (Summoner Spells, Rune System, RNG Elements).

Or

Start everything from new, create a more balanced game where stratagy actually matters and makes a difference. Simplify the game a bit, like having a card system similar to (Paragon) which would replace Runes but still have diversive options while keeping things straight forward and simple. Potentially remove Summoner Spells (Since Summoners got removed and the spells themselves create more issues than solve, and on top of all that the current game is too balanced around Summoners Spells like Flash). Solve power differences between champion kits in the future champions kits (like the difference in power of mobility and immobility, marksman and tanks, defense and offense, and etc..).

I doubt Riot will ever try to make a new game. they will run LoL into the ground and when the money cow starts to dry up they will try to make a new game. but, by that time they will realize too late that no one knows how to make a video game.

could you imagine a Wukong or Garen spin......with VR headset technology?

hopefully they add this to the new game

Need new people to work on that, not just a new name or a "number 2". Otherwise, it would be just another depressing failure.

League 2 should have all items put into three classes and let you only have one item from each class at a time.

I don't see what the point would be, at least not now.

League of legends 2, would be produced by the current development team. The same development team who's philosophies have put the game into it's current state.

All that you'd be getting is a game which is more explicitly a product of their design philosophies, rather than a game that is the product of their current philosophies and the legacy design of the game that required a degree of compromise between the two out of necessity and finite time/resources.

Having another league of legends would be great, and might have actually been able to successfully split the community across the strategic/action divide, but that needed to be done like 4 years ago at this point. Which is pretty much what they were trying to do by creating new game modes like dominion. Yet the mistake was changing the design of the objectives, when really they just needed another 5v5 SR style map that could be changed independently of the standard SR.
