6/15 Lulu's changes, clarification and context?

For those who aren't aware of ff@20 and any form of PBE changes, this is the changelist:

  • Movement speed increased to 330 from 325
  • Base mana increased to 350 from 292.4
  • Glitterlance (Q)
  • AP ratio increased to .7 from .5
  • Added to tool tip: "The damage taken by targets subsequent to the first by each bolt is reduced to 70%."
  • Whimsy (W)
  • [new effect] Now also grants an all 15/20/25/30/35% attack speed for 3/3.25/3.5/3.75/4 seconds.

For the context part, I can tell how that Q "nerf" (IMO she shouldn't receive any form of compensation buffs at all on that) can favor more for her support playstyle than her solo playstyle, since many Lulu solo players like to "kill 2 birds with a stone" by lining up the minion wave and the enemy laner together for more poke. Is this explanation correct, or am I missing something important here since I only play Lulu as support. If the (especially) early waveclear is what you are trying to nerf, why be so hesitant about just giving a % minion damage reduction on Q at earlier ranks, and that reduction will be completely diminished at rank 5? That alone would have toned down her early waveclear, buff (or just do nothing) to her supporting playstyle, and would still retain Lulu's core strengths as both support and solo lane.

One more pointer, does her W AS buff apply upon self-casting? Should it? I know that it opens up more interesting ways to play botlane (hello Jhin) or even as Lulu jungle, but wouldn't it slightly buff Lulu solo to some extent by giving her too much "extra dueling power", since she relies on autoattacking for trades? Personally, I don't think it would buff her to the point where it goes out of control since Whimsy is often a spell that a smarter Lulu player should save at any given time and that most of her damage comes from , but the ability to self buff as a solo laner seems... extraneous.

Though I understand about not buffing base values, ever, because those are what makes solo Lulu such a strong bully. Glad to see Riot being fully aware of this.

What do you think? Maybe I'm just a Lulu support main that doesn't know much about Lulu solo, but answers would be helpful.

if she could give herself the attack speed steroid, her passive and new Q will hit like trucks. There really isn't a reason to buff an AP ratio because support lulu doesn't even build it but ok... I guess..

I could just clear waves by oneshotting the first minion with the stronger initial Q and then finish off the rest with auto attacks because of pix bolts, so it's really not going to change much about top lulu
