"only a tiny percentage of players use item sets so we are not bringing it to the new client"

#UPDATE: We did it!

Then can you at least update the recommended items for champions that actually needed them? Many people use item sets because the recommended items are completely outdated and even possibly outright shit.

Like this one (which is for Lulu support): https://puu.sh/q4mtJ/c1b825a71e.jpg (Look, there's Morello's, the core build for MIDLANERS, and even a Spirit Visage? On someone who doesn't self heal? Come on, Lulu support is already confusing to newer players.)

I'm pretty sure a lot of champions have the same "outdated item sets" issue as well, so an update on that would be great. New goodies of preseason 6, MYMU, 6.13, and so much more reworks on items... I don't see why not.

EDIT: Damn, 30 upvotes in an hour, 80 in the second, 100 in the third, and 200+ 12 hours later. Interesting.

Honestly I don't mind if the item sets are gone because the vast majority of the playerbase are hyper casuals that play League a few times a week, people that play so many games that League isn't priority (or people who just don't care about customization at all), people who don't use it because item sets are pretty badly implemented, or just good ol' meta sheep. "Tiny percentage"? Not surprised if that is the actual statistics; I'll take it. But what's more important is that they really need to update the damn recommended lists. Some of such lists are at least 2 years behind, simply because they are "less popular"... and it's not hard

I use item sets because it speeds up shopping a lot.

Athenes Lulu91 votes

It also serves as a reminder for myself that I should switch out trinkets each time I get a item 2049 , unless I am going to sit in lane for more than 6 minutes.

omg this. so much this.

I used them once but they just kept resetting after every patch or something, so I just thought fuck it lol.

DrCyanide40 votes

I never had that issue, and with them being saved server side now it's even better for me.

I don't like how Riot said "just go use a third party tool to get item sets". I think that's going to open Pandora's box, resulting in Season 7 being the one where third party apps/plugins become the standard for League rather than being oddities.

Velzard of Koz10 votes

Also, looking forward those bans from using third party programs, people writing boards posts about it, Riot respoinding via Support "they are 100% sure no mistake has been done but will not reveal more info", then Riot responding on Boards how they are sorry it was mistake and unbanning the person. Several times circularily.

You mean like jungle timers?

Velzard of Koz15 votes

Me too. This really pissed me off. I used just one page and it was enugh, I had items sorted by their role-usablity and it was for me far more cleaner that whatever Riot came with and I didn't have to dig through tons of useless, gutted or unviable items I woudn't use in most situations. Now that will be lost. Really pissed.

Are you fucking kidding me?

I have dedicated item sets for nearly every champion I played more than 3 times.

Instead recommended items are garbage 90% of the time and trying to find an item not on either list is just... eh...

What the fuck is "Championify" anyway?

EndlessSorcerer52 votes

Wait, where the hell did they say that?

I've been using them constantly and I love having the ability to customize my item sets.

EndlessSorcerer31 votes

Well, fuck.

god dammit, I made items sets for every damn champion i own too.... now its all a waste of time.

"Only a tiny percentage of players use item sets so we are not bringing it to the new client."

BULLSHIT!! I rely solely on these custom itemsets, having made specific itemsets for most champions I own! Apart from the items changing faster than I can remember all the names, I use custom itemsets to add situational items, easily recognized by their looks.

I NEED this feature to be kept on!

To put it this way: I play Lulu as a top-lane mage - where is my recommended itemset? This is very much bordering on meta-enforcement, denying players the easiest possible access to their preferred build paths.

Oh well (short for "What the hELL!?"), have it your way, Tencent. Season 7 top-lane Lulu with Locket rush it is then.

I use item sets all the time when playing champions I have special builds for and it makes buying A LOT easier

You've gotta be kidding. Why would you REMOVE a function that helps players?

You've gotta be kidding. Why would you REMOVE a function that helps players?

First of all, I'm not saying I support the decision to remove the item set maker. (I want item sets to stay badly.)

However, the reason why they are "removing" item sets is because they're not really removing them, they're choosing not to re-add them. There's a difference. They're coding the new client from scratch, so time that they spend on one feature takes away time that they could be spending on something else. Since so few players use item sets, Riot has decided not to spend the time re-making the feature in the new client and instead focus on something else. EDIT: Am I wrong about the reason? Does someone want to tell me the real reason why they're not implementing them? What I wrote is what I got from Cactopus's post.

PaladinNO10 votes

I don't think I would go out of bounds when I say it's not the reason why they do this that's disputed - it's that they do it at all.

Why you think so few players use custom itemsets? Would "meta-sheeps" be too strong a word, considering the rankings of the majority? Or could it perhaps be that custom itemsets isn't exactly highlighted as a recommended - or even suggested - feature anywhere? There is a Support page covering it, yes, but don't tell me you would find that unless you were looking for it specifically.

There is no wonder so few uses custom itemsets, when they haven't been told it's an actual useful feature. I discovered it by accident, really. And how to actually use them ingame was a pure trial-and-error for me.

6Sfool23 votes

I have too many item sets to memorize. Almost all of my builds are customized heavily, and I have no intention of memorizing 1-3 entire item sets for more than 20 champs. That would make me quit league.

Woodakoodashooda16 votes

I'd like too know where the players stand in rank who don't use custom item sets.

I'd also like to know among those who don't use custom sets, which ones do not focus on only 1 to 5 champions.

And, finally, did the number of item sets used by any given player have an affect on this decision?

Kempachi Taichou15 votes

I use item sets for my core champs.... I don't want to always search for my items!

I use item sets because I can't be assed to click and be asked to find the item I want when I could just pre-emptively make the item available on the first page before-hand and ease the process.

NOT having Custom Item Sets available promotes Recall Window-Shopping for time-saving which leads to unnecessary reaks, which inevitably leads to unnecessary deaths. Which can lead to unnecessary losses.

All because Custom Item Sets weren't implemented.

10110011100014 votes

Not to mention making item sets for wacky non-meta shit.

I'm gonna be sad having to scroll through AP itemization for AP Lucian.

Or 3 Teemo builds.

Or Full AP Bard.

Rtsai14 votes

Nuuuu, I use item sets and it helps a lot

CarameI Frappe13 votes

Only a tiny percentage of people use it? ... As if. Even when I first joined up with League in 2015, the first thing I wanted to do was customize items and know what works with what champion. By removing this feature, we're going to have to spend time in the shop rather than quickly picking up something to hurry back to lane. Riot please ....

Left 4 Dead12 votes

I myself have spent hours updating the item set pages for every champ I own using guides online but then again the average person probably would not or should not do that, I can't say if it's for the worse but it might be for the better, maybe they just need better recommended pages.

KVbqbFsC8e12 votes

Wow thats lame as fuck.

Draqone12 votes

WHAT?

Honestly, I play only Jungle and Support and those 2 roles really need item sets.

Supports because of switching trinkets and buying pink wards (easier to remember if a pink is on top of the page) and because jungle recommended items suck.

I mean, Hecarim still has warriors enchant...

CrazFight 11 votes

As a person that uses item sets this saddens me ;c - Guess the "minority" Doesn't count.

LordKentravyon11 votes

Thats annoying I don't use them anymore. But when they came out in my first couple months of league they were a HUGE help. Preparing them in advance with item categories so i knew roughly what to take and when.

Dehitay10 votes

I am going to miss item sets. Not only does it help with building a champion quickly in game, it also lets you check out all the stats, passives, actives, and prices on items without having the pull up a website or get into a game.

Rivini10 votes

Very poor and misguided decision on Riot's part. Seeing what they did to Malzahar after the rework, it's really no surprise. Also, if anything used by only "a tiny %" isn't worth keeping around, then why don't they delete Urgot, Mordekaiser, Aatrox, and the others who are rarely picked? Riot doesn't commit to their faulty logic 100%, for better or worse.

However, it does say in the FAQ, "We're currently not planning to bring over the item set creator feature from the legacy client," which means it's possible they will implement it in the new client somewhere down the road. Seeing as they are giving us a sandbox mode after previously stating it would never be done, don't think the same won't happen with item sets.

Having to search through the store for the items we want is a huge pain and takes up precious time. Since item sets have spoiled us, Riot is going to have to expect repeated demands for its return, leading to eventually giving in to them. This thread is the start of it.

It's really not a matter of will item sets ever return, but when. It's up to Riot how long they want to wait to implement the feature.

Nameless Voice10 votes

Only a tiny percentage of players are in platinum or higher, yet the game is balanced for that level of play.

Only dedicated players are willing to put in enough time to reach that rank, just like only dedicated players are willing to put in the extra time and effort to create item sets.

Shuten Ðoji9 votes

I use items sets because the recommended items are trash and it helps to organize items that you may or may not need to buy for any particular game. Not to mention, sometimes item names just escape me and it's a lot more convenient than sitting at base for 3 minutes trying to remember what it is I want to buy.

JPlayah9 votes

I just wish Riot would ASK us if we want item sets before assuming we don't. Even if not many people use them, I bet a lot more people like that the feature is AVAILABLE, because it at least gives them the choice of whether or not to use it. In short, removing item sets will annoy people beyond the group that uses them regularly. Plus, not everyone builds a champion the same way. This is why custom item sets are so good. They make it quick and easy to build champions YOUR way. There's no good reason to take away that option.

Rainboom8 votes

I love my item sets. They speed up my shopping so much, time is crucial. It also allows me to plan ahead new builds to try or items that would be beneficial in different situations. Don't take this from us,please. :( item 3070

Riot continues to ignore the playerbase and what they want. If they didn't get rid of dynamic queue, they won't listen to us now. Riot has really turned into a shit company, and I've played this game since season 2. Everything that has gone down in the last year is making me really consider trying Dota 2, or maybe looking into something else entirely. They just blatantly ignore what their players want and do whatever the hell they think is best (i.e. whatever makes them the most money with the least amount of effort). Especially after watching some of MonteChristo's videos as to their investigation process, and some of the other ways they mismanage, I'm really at my limit here. I loved this game, and I would like to keep playing it, but unless Riot does a complete 180 with how they deal with players, their customers mind you, the pro teams and everything, I'm just going to have to give up and cut my losses.

Morbazan8 votes

Noooo. I use those all the time. Fuck..

Janna and Finch8 votes

rest in piece, my item sets that i have been using since i starting playing this game... they helped me learn how to build stuff and still help me organize to this day. I feel like the reason for removing a good, quality of life, feature is not a logical one. Please do not remove item sets, Riot

http://prntscr.com/cw19mc <-rip my item sets :(

Phernus7 votes

I use them all the time and I will be sad to see them go away. I use them to compile specific builds for champs after comparing different external sites and meshing them with my playstyle. This will definately make playing more stressful for me by not having my custom build options for each champ available in game.

Harvey Rabbit7 votes

IS THIS A JOKE? Item sets are an essential feature, and especially important for new players (which I was this summer). The whole item list is so long and confusing, and it takes literally hundreds of games to start to figure out how to build well situationally for many different champions. Plus it is super fun to figure out different builds for different champions, and many of us have spent lots of hours doing so. No, you can't remember all that shit off the top of your head for potentially 130+ champions in ARAM, sorry.

REMOVING ITEM SETS IS A DEAL BREAKER FOR ME. It's a kick in the teeth to League of Legends players in general. Amazing that it would even be contemplated, but if it actually happens, wow, what an insane mentality from a company, holy shit.

All Skillzz6 votes

damn i have itemsets for all my different ezreal builds =[

Bloodyrains6 votes

Playing Devil's Advocate here but by that logic why support anything that a tiny percentage of players use or do? That's like removing a champion no one uses or a division that only the top 1% belong to.

Vicarious1176 votes

Wtf do they mean no one uses item sets? Do they mean higher ranking streamers who everyone watches don't use item sets? Cause most people I know below the plat level, and even into it still, most definitely use them quite regularly just to speed things up.

Chembaron Yamada5 votes

Don't do this riot!! I made item sets for ALL my champs! If you remove this feature, my team mates will complain about me constantly for taking too much time shopping stuff.

I desperately need this feature, don't do this to me!

Skystrike75 votes

Wait, what the fuck? I use item sets every damn time I play. Don't remove that shit.

SirZeros5 votes

Dude, only a tiny percentage of players used them. Literally everyone I know uses this feature like wtf, we ain't all be bronze who only use recommended item sets even if they're all shit or diamond+ who change every fucking item in every game they're playing. I play the game for fun and if I need to search every item and stay 5 seconds longer per shopping session I really think Rito fucked up right here. They can't just remove something without even asking EVERYONE's opinion. Like wtf is this? I have like over 100 items sets for which I spent several hours to make and improve. To be honest I don't blame Riot often at all, but right here they fucked up... And if I don't want to play Bard support f.e., who gives a ... about third party item sets or recommended ones??

why dont they recoment what evers best on lolkings or ehat ever it is yo guys use to get your builds from

Athenes Lulu10 votes

Even so some of the "best" lolking builds aren't good for starters who have absolutely no idea on how to "learn" to build a certain champion.
