I really wish the mini-game of Illaoi's tentacles could be made less bothersome to deal with.

Every time I have to lane against an Illaoi I feel like I'm not even really able to get any gold or farm or do anything. Between her tentacles and her area spells that all need to be avoided and dodged, it feels like too much shit to keep track of. >_<

I actually really like laning against illaoi usually because of how involving the tentacles are. Laning against her and winning is incredibly satisfying.

I dunno if I "did it wrong" or not but I pickd Gnar since he's ranged and the team needed more bulk, but even then moving to try and clear out tentacles just got me caught in area spells. I tried waiting for her mana to get low enough that she couldn't combo me, but that never really happened, I assume because her aman costs are made nder current design philosophies instead of being like older champions who can oom prety easily.

Kill the tentacles before they can do anything. Her Q and E are her only ranged spells. The E is beyond easy to dodge and she can't hit you with it from behind minions, the Q is a good bit of damage but it's not that bad. Gnar is a good choice because of his 3-hit passive speed boost on his mini W and his mobility with his E. Harass her with your Q so she can't come close to you and just keep the tentacles dead so that you don't feel like you're in a hentai.

All that is what I was trying to do, but I couldn't get close enough to delete a tentacle without getting hit by one of her other spells. Tried to get the jungler to help since she was pushing in hard but she just double-killed us.

having the jg help can be a dangerous move because people will tend to overextend or think "this is a 2v1 this wont be hard" but if illaoi lands an E on one of you and has tentacles around, or has her ult ready shes getting a huge damage ramp up. ive had a lot of games where the jg tries to come gank and underestimates my dmg and heals resulting in a double kill for me. my advice would be try to bait out the Q and E, then poke the tentacles down.
