Why is Jarvan still classified as a tank?
He really isn't. He's more of a bruiser if anything.

The in-game classes are always a bit off. Jarvan is classed as a Diver in Riot's eyes https://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/developer-corner/3A5uuBw7-champion-subclass-list
What's a jarvan? is that an Egyptian god card?
Yes! Yes, it is!
No, that's Slifer, you know, the Sky dragon....
You're probably thinking of "Jarvik"
Wrong
J4 is a burst assassin
Maybe a couple of metas ago
This ^
um have you seen a true tank build jarvan there is a reason why the man is classified as a tank
But he does shit loads of damage. You can build tank on Garen, that doesn't make him a tank. Jarvan has pretty much no CC and he relies on his high damages.
he has no cc? his q e combo for knock up and engages? his aoe slow on W (also a shield for him) and his ult ?
seems like cc to me
Pretty much no CC.
This guy.
Get a load of this guy. A knockup, a slow, and cataclysm.
You're something else.
Cataclysm is not true CC, pretty much all champions get out of it without any trouble nowadays. What exactly were the stats on his slow again? 15% pretty much until level 14. His Knock up is really his only CC.
You're actually stupid if you think that's enough CC to be a tank. Or that it's even good CC.
"no cc" he has a knock up, a slow, and a arena..........
garen is a type of tank called a juggernaut
Jarvan can get incredibly tanky if he builds for it and he initiates fights like a boss. He just happens to be able to do a ton of damage IF he builds for it, similar to Sion, and sacrifices some defense. Add to the fact that most games these days end rather early and that's why most people just build damage Jarvan, to capitalize on his early-mid game strength as a damage threat.
A better question is why a champ like Trundle is listed as a "tank," even though he has zero ways to initiate teamfights, but can be played as a pure support.
Jarvan doesn't have any tank steroids, has minimal disruption and mostly serves as a damage dealing/shredding fighter/initiator as opposed to a meat wall.
Minimal disruption? He can knock up an entire team (twice if they stay in his standard's range) AND has a terrain ability. That's about as disruptive as a champion can get. His shield serves as his tanking mechanic, as it increases in strength based on how many enemies he hits with it (which also happens to provide an AoE slow), especially after the buff as it now scales with his maximum health. That's far more useful to a team than a meat wall, especially these days when penetration is so strong.
The only other champions that come close to his level of disruption are Nautilus, Alistar and Leona. Sion kind of comes close, but his abilities are so telegraphed that they're easy to avoid most of the time.
Guy needs a rework, fast.
He does. Care to explain why not?
jarvans kinda trash for tank though. I mean...you can, but WHY when you could play someone like Zac who is an...well, an actual tank
Jarvan is meant to be played like a man.

Wut.
Jarvan has just as much CC as Zac and the exact same engage, it just requires an additional ability. Zac is literally AP Jarvan.
I think the Highest AD item I've ever built on him is
.
He's a tank to me, and a very tanky one at that.

Hydra??
Not once. I play him as full tank support, and he's more durable than Braum.
What do you even do against Vayne.

that's such a bad and inefficient item on him, it's actually not even funny... titanic hydra is 100x better and still makes him tanky.
as a J4 main, who also often plays him support, it sounds to me like you're missing the point (or a lot of points) of the champion.
I dunno, I think it's because they have him with the mindset of being played similarly to Camille, who is a Diver + Tank.
But it also could be because the in-game classes are always off to how the champion players.
The classes can be kinda off. I mean it's really become a blurred vision since this whole vanguards and control mage charade became a thing. After all, gangplank is actually listed under support. Because oranges. [zombie-brand-mindblown]
GP's support tag is because of Raise Morale (his old E), which used to give a team movespeed and attack damage. He used to be able to go support before his latest rework.
hes a tanky assasin
