Pretty Crazy Yi Idea- What if Part of his R Became a Passive?

With upcoming changes to Fervor further nerfing Yi (let's be honest, it's a nerf to Yi. He won't benefit from 60 AD more from 110 bonus on-hit physical damage with the way his Passive and kit work), I have a crazy idea that I wonder what the community would think. For the most part, Yi is almost entirely reliant on his R to do anything unless he is fed, which he relies on his R to become. So, what if part of his R became a passive on his R? Like this:

Highlander Passive: Champions takedowns reduce the current cooldown of Master Yi's basic abilities by 70%. Master Yi gains 15/27.5/40% increased attack speed, his movement speed is multiplied by 10/15/20%, and he gains 15/17.5/20% Slow Resistance. Active: For the next 7 seconds, Master Yi gains 15/27.5/40% increased attack speed and his movement speed is further multiplied by 15/20/25%. During this time, he is also immune to slows. While active, champion takedowns extend the duration of Highlander by 7 seconds.

Highlighted areas are what is changed, and crossed areas are removed mechanics.

What do you guys think? It would make Yi less reliant on his ultimate in order to do anything.

I think is current passive is more interesting as it rewards his extensive combat shtick.

This wouldn't replace his current Passive. It would just break up the stats provided by his ultimate between being passively on him and gated by a cool down. His current R provides a passive and it would be on that passive. His current double hit passive would remain in the game.

Doesn't sound too farfetched if you think about it. He hardly has the tools necessary to get early kills anyways. Good idea, but how would you activate a passive?

You don't. Once his R is leveled, you immediately gain the stats provided from the Passive, being 15% attack speed, 10% multiplied movement speed, and 15% Slow Resistance.

So basically give him Katarina's passive as a passive for his ult?

Meep Man1 votes

That is already how it is in the live game.

Ralanr1 votes

Oh. Sorry I misread that.

I'm not sure if giving him stats he needs to build just from his ult is a good idea because it can encourage more tanky and bruiser builds.

This wouldn't give him anymore stats than his current ultimate does however so I don't see how it would encourage building Tank more than it would discourage building CDR.

I guess it'd be because he wouldn't need his ult to activate the extra attack speed.

Idk. Maybe it could work.

I'm ok with leaving Master Yi as is and seeing just how bad the changes are to him. You can't JUST look at the changes to Ferver and say "See this one change. Nerf." There are a lot of other changes as well going on in the mastery trees, so he might not be as bad off as you think:

  • Battle Trance (5% bonus damage when in combat against champions for 5 seconds)
  • Double Edged Sword replaces Oppressor and is always 5% bonus dmg now (up from 3%)
  • Fresh Blood (not a TON, but it is some extra burst against champions early to help get him going)
  • Green Father's Gift (3% target's current HP as magic damage that heals you as well from attacking out of brush)

So 12% bonus damage (if in combat for 5 seconds) up from possible 10% (but you had to kill at least everyone on the map once to get that) + 3% target's current HP as a magic drain from coming out of the jungle to gank, as a trade off for trading 115 on hit damage for free 66 AD, plus more true damage from Wuju

Plus he has AD scaling (His Q gets 100% ad bonus dmg). His E gives him free 6 AD from Ferver alone (so ferver for him is 66 AD. Not 60).
AA Damage can crit. On Hits (especially ferver) can not (minus static shiv).
His Wuju Style does true damage which is scaled by AD (so 16.5 extra true damage scaling from Ferver alone at max stacks), so 66 free AD, and 16.5 free extra true damage is about 82.5 more damage on his AA's which is less than 115 (or whatever it was) for sure but some of it is true damage.

There is enough going on that I'm going to just wait and see how it plays out.

That is true. If it somehow turns out that Yi is not affected by the changes, then he won't require any. This is a Plan B in case they DO affect him.

Chamuel851 votes

That is fair. I don't really play Yi myself because his ult being down feels like he'll have trouble accomplishing anything, but maaaaan when it is up.

I don't think this is a bad idea. Maybe tone down the movement speed a little. Also, you should tone down the slow resistance. If he gets mercs, he has a 45/50/55% slow resistance. If he gets an iron pot, he gets 70/75/80% slow resistance without his ult which is a bit too good

Meep Man1 votes

Correction: If he gets Swiftness Boots, not Mercs, he has 40/45/50% Slow Resistance. Iron Pot doesn't provide Slow Resistance, it provides Tenacity. Tenacity reduces the duration of crowd control effects, while Slow Resistance reduces the potency of slows. For example, if you have 25% Slow Resistance, a 100% Slow is reduced to a 75% Slow and a 40% Slow is reduced to a 30% Slow.

Never the less, I agree and reduced it.

Yup. Looks good now.

If you are going to add a passive to his ultimate, he doesn't need the extended duration, since it is already built into it.

Other wise, I am cool with the change.

Understood

I think giving him permanent MS is very dangerous, even if it's only half the amount of his active. MS is a VERY strong stat, remember how swifties got nerfed repeatedly this season and how Deadman was taken by almost any melee champ above everything else? It's deceptive because you don't notice it, but it's very strong.

For the AS, I think there is less risk, but I agree with Ralanr that it may encourage Tank Builds. If you get more "free" stats over extended duration, it's a viable alternative to just build defenses and survive long enough to use these stats, as opposed to building more damage because you MUST kill them in your short window of power with the current version.
