Can Riot's Balance Team Stop Forcefully Changing The Meta?

so they decided to overnerf Caitlyn getting her to lose half her playrate and drop to 48% winrate. Now they refuse to nerf the recently buffed high banrate high pickrate high winrate Draven . its nice to see tristana back in the botlane, mostly because her counter is permabanned, but i dream of a day where i see more than 3 champions played in the botlane.

honestly i dont think draven is punished enough for failing to catch axes q is on a really short cooldown and doesnt cost much mana at all, plus he can have two going at once, so if he does end up dropping an axe he still has another one, and by then his q should already be available anyways. i think the ridiculous damage and early game power is what makes him unique, but his q is just so powerful and doesnt have any counterplay. make the cooldown a lot longer and make it cost more mana, lose a lot of passive stacks when he drops an axe, just make dropping axes a big deal.

KoKoboto11 votes

I never thought about that but I agree fully. Although it costs heavy mana early later on the mana cost doesn't matter.

ALSO later on catching axes doesn't matter when it only takes a few axes to kill stuff. Draven decreases in skill as the game goes on which is funy xd

draven is also one of the more vulnerable adcs, unless the team is coordinated a lot of the time he can just survive with very little health and then heal it all back because life steal lol i dont think he should be better than kog at killing tanks, but he is that should be like kog's thing if his early game is hit hard enough it'll be a lot harder for him to just destroy everything late game

FlameanatorX4 votes

Have you played 6 item kog built correctly? Tanks just disappear off your screen like anything else you right click. Draven's strong at killing tanks too, since he's an adc with a steroid, but not kog levels of tank-killing strong...

To be fair the reason for that is they want the axes to feel like bonus damage and not to entirely punish you for failing to catch them. The axes were not too strong for a while so it felt fine. I think they have to choose though, does Draven get to spam axes but the damage is lower than other attack bonus, or does he keep the super high damage but use less axes? Because it can't stay both.

Durzaka4 votes

His Q has a lowish mana cost because all of his mana gets sunk into his W during fights, because he needs the spd boosts.

ChaoticPinecone3 votes

Spinning Axe COST: 45 MANA COOLDOWN: 12 / 11 / 10 / 9 / 8

Thats hardly a short cooldown. It doesnt get below 10 until level level 7. MF's Q has a short cooldown. Draven's is pretty average.

ProfDrDeath4 votes

Except that this ability is not "cast once, then be on cooldown". Rather, it is "cast, then use till you drop it." Considering that, I think a 15-20 second cooldown is more warranted to really punish Draven for dropping an axe.

EDIT: Maybe reduce the cooldown for every non-axe autoattack that hits an enemy, though.

Jonxx2 votes

Long cd, and reduce it by 1s every time he catches axe.

Lying From You1 votes

Draven is currently fine.. he's a lot less strong than people think he is. The only reason what people should complain about Draven is about death's dance that make him basically a Tank with the huge amount of healing it provide and the damage reduction.

Riot should just nerf DD or change the healing done on draven so his Q doesn't stack life steal with his normal AA.

In all honestly I feel tristana mf and jhin are currently way more powerful than Draven

I doubt you watch any LCS at all; in fact I doubt anyone that comments this watches it. Draven has been picked, what, twice? He's terrible in pro play and performs terribly when picked. I remember watching a Phoenix1 match and it was picked for Arrow since it's his best champ and he only got a kill by about the 25 minute mark.

If you're gonna bitch, bitch about the fact that his skillcap is way too low for what it should be. Not LCS.

Ah yes, the E-Sports hate bandwagon. At this point, I doubt you even know what you're talking about and you're here just to be a pain in the ass.

Can Riot's Balance Team Stop Forcefully Changing The Meta?

proceeds to list nerfs of one champion that was complained about endlessly on the boards ok? How are they forcefully changing the meta?

My Heartshaker2 votes

Right?

It's like these people are so hypocritical - you've got people who are crying for nerfs for one champion then when they do get nerfed, it's like they didn't want them getting nerfed in the first place.

Make up your fucking minds.

Marshbouy2 votes

obligatory "but the boards aren't one entity" and it isn't, but that doesn't mean Caitlin shouldn't have got the nerfs she deserved.

SwiftKitten886 votes

maybe its just me.. but as someone who mains a champ that hasn't had a winrate above 46% in nearly a year.. getting "overnerfed to a 48% win rate" really makes me not like your argument at all.

i mean i don't like them forcibly changing the meta either.. but.. i would be practically ecstatic for my champ to get to a 48% win-rate right now...

it would also mean she would be in LCS again and everyone would hate her once more.

Wait who is tristana's counter? THe only PERMA ban (atleast at high elo,) is zac

TurquoiseYoshi4 votes

Probably Cait because she beats Trist in lane and is permabanned in pros, but that doesn't make sense with the earlier part.

Draven is a good counter to Tristana. And Cait before she was over nerfed was a good skill match up that leaned in Cait's favor. Lucian also is a good skill match up that leans in Lucian's favor. Sivir shits on Tristana as well; if Trist gets shoved under early, she can't farm properly and Sivir can easily do that with Trist being unable to push hard enough back. The CD and Mana cost on Tristana's E is too high for her to out push Sivir.

I was finally starting to feel like the game was in a decent state, then all of a sudden Jhin got massive buffs and lethality got buffed in back-to-back patches. Like is this even the same balance team that saw what lethality did to the meta all winter long? Did we learn nothing?

aspects12 votes

it wasnt an overnerf to caitlyn and since she was sitting at a 30% playrate, half isnt that much

DoktorKaiser1 votes

Cait still 1 shotting me so I dont really see how she is more fun to play against... Dont even want to talk about Tyler

Arakadia7 votes

Now that we have replays, you can share with us some clips of Caitlyn one shotting you. Please do so you have some evidence.

DoktorKaiser1 votes

Why should I bother when you can easily try it yourself. Here are the steps you can take to replicate it:

  1. play a full squishy late game

  2. try to move away from your tower because of reasons

  3. step into a trap because its impossible to do otherwise

  4. get 1 shot

Arakadia8 votes

Because it takes you 7 minutes while I have to spend 45 minutes JUST FOR A CHANCE AT GETTING A CAITLYN IN MY GAME.

I have never once been one shot by Caitlyn. Unless she is really freaking fed, notta chance she'll one shot you.

Your claiming something, so you should provide the proof. I cannot force an enemy caitlyn into my game, force neither team to end or ff for 45 minutes, and successfully pull off these steps. And I wouldn't waste my time on such a blatant lie.

You've never seen a perfect headshot-trap-e-headshot combo follow by a q. It can be done in about 1.5 seconds.

No one counts one shots as literal 1 hit. It's usually in a second or less of ability are counted as 1 shots.

Arakadia1 votes

That combo would also require you to be fed.

But DoctorKaiser clearly said earlier that all you have to do is step on a trap and her headshot will one shot you.

I know a master tier adc main. He's shown me that combo being 0/0/0. Course he was 6 and he had to use hit ult to finish off the stage.

But the draven walked up got trap-aa-E-AA -ult and he died. Draven had been in the lane for like 4 seconds just came back from buying so he was at full life. All of it was done in like 2 seconds all out of dravens range.

He said at his tier it requires a little bit of luck because people can react so fast that the trap often doesn't trigger even if placed behind them though.

Jhin was at less than half hp...

It was at least 50% but Cait did it all in one auto because of Shiv. Sustained DPS shouldn't burst

Dextix LT1 votes

It was around 40%, Cait had headshot, crit and shiv together. We also do not see her items.

Of course Jhin would die.

Arakadia1 votes

I'm not watching the whole 6 minute video to find a one shot for two reasons:

  • The caitlyn is going to be fed when she one shots someone who didn't build any resistances and is behind.
  • Caitlyn is going full lethality so her ultimate is going to be crazy. That build is abusing something rather than Caitlyn.
Dextix LT1 votes

So you are conceding the argument. Alright....

Arakadia1 votes

No because that video is unrelated.

The original guy complaining about one shots said a Caitlyn could one shot him from just one trap head shot, which is unaffected by lethality.

Dextix LT1 votes

You ask for a video of a oneshot by Cait. You are provided it, then you make an excuse why it does not count and is "unrelated".

You are a conceding the argument in face of proof.

Arakadia1 votes

I asked for a replay of him getting one shot by Cait when he stepped on a single trap. That is why a 6 minute video without a time stamp is not related.

Edit: In addition that video is showing lethality Caitlyn bursting people. Which more likely means only lethality Caitlyn can burst that well and lethality is the problem for her.

Can we just not play by the meta? The LC$ don't define the meta, nor does the balance team

Rainfall2 votes

the meta train has no brakes you either get on it or get crushed by it.

deadlychuck2 votes

Even more so that way, as they keep increasing the disparity of "meta" and "non-meta"

5050BS1 votes

Its stupid that there are only about 20 champs out of the what 160? that you can play and consistently preform well with.

I'd like to see Trundle again.
