Could Vel'koz's Ultimate be adjusted to apply more stacks of Organic Deconstruction?

Vel'koz's ultimate simply feels bleh compared to the old one. It felt far more empowering watching it chunk a champions health with passive application that it is to watch it slowly burn away. Just watching the stacks apply was like an epic countdown to death! And then BOOM! Huge damage burst! Assuming one stack is already applied. 1! 2! BOOM!!!!!!!!!! 1! 2! BOOM!!!!!!!!!!

Now it's just, I don't know, fizzle? just slowly sizzling their health down. Rarely do squishies actually take researched damage and because EVERYONE! is so mobile they almost never take the full brunt of this ultimate. Tanks are just as underwhelming to hit with it as health directly counters true damage, a warmogs and then everything is sorted. Tanks would gladly face tank a vel'koz ult any day.

Deep down, I want the ult reverted. Hell maybe researched targets take the full magic damage+full true damage (doubling the ultimate damage). Then it would melt tanks. But that would also be broken AF.

But the more reasonable solution is lowering the DOT and buffing the stack application

Please, I just want some of old vel'koz back. It simply felt so much better to deal magic damage affected by magic pen as well as the true damage procs as opposed to pure true damage with 1 proc at best at the very end.

You, Riot, changed Vel'koz for no better reason than "change for the sake of change". Well sorry but that destroyed the feeling of vel'koz completely. His playerbase was just too small for you to give a shit.

You're probably just building him incorrectly. Stop building magic pen and get AP. You want 900 AP late game or else you're doing it wrong.

Also have you considered that you're asking for more passive procs (true damage) and then complaining that magic pen isn't relevant on him anymore? Hello?

Generally hit 800ap on average. Ludens, rylai, morello, rabadon, liandries boots.

Ss for the last part. How does more passive procs on ult make magic pen more relevant? I really don't understand the last part.

Khristophoros1 votes

Don't build Morello's unless the GW is desperately needed.

Everything else there is fine so just rush AP/CDR sooner instead of getting Morello's.

Anyway you were saying his ult should apply more stacks but then you said you miss when it just did a ton of magic damage and you could benefit more from magic pen. But his passive deals true damage so if it applied more stacks it would make magic pen even less relevant.

True. I shoulda re read again and edited. That makes no sense at all XD.

Do u go spell binder or hourglass in the place of morello? Or something else entirely

Edit. Just feel spellbinder doesn't feel right on koz +what u pick for secondary tree? Been goin domination with eyeballs and the more true dmg vs impared enemies

This is kind of a disorganized post but this kinda summarizes how I build him.

I usually go Spellbinder either 2nd or 3rd item, though I agree it feels wrong and awkward on him. It gives so much AP though. It's really strong but feels bad. :\

I usually rush RoA but I know most people don't like it so I'm not trying to push for people to use it on him. I think as long as you get a Lost Chapter item and a lot of AP you're good. I just feel like Morellonomicon is suboptimal because he deals so much true damage.

I try to go for high AP items but if I feel like I need Hourglass or Banshee's I'll get them.

Sometimes instead of Luden's I get Hextech GLP because the burst is actually higher so strictly for comboing somebody it's better. But usually I'll only get it if the other team has some melee champs I really want to slow to help peel in teamfights. I know Rylai's can work for that too but I'd rather buy a Lost Chapter item before I'd get Rylai's since it has no mana or CDR.

I used to go Sorcery/Domination with eyeballs/ravenous hunter. You actually get a decent amount of sustain off Ravenous Hunter because it procs off everything including passive.

But lately I've been going Inspiration/Sorcery for Unsealed Spellbook. That rune offers so much more interesting options. Not sure if it's better than plain old Comet or not though.

Anyway the big thing for me is I don't like magic pen because of all the true dmg and I think you want lots of AP and CDR.

Thanks babe. Will give the rune setup a shot to see how it feels and try to get used to spell binder

Also I have one tip about Unsealed Spellbook. You can actually get Clarity from it so if you go oom early around when the first swap is ready you can just grab Clarity and get a bunch of mana so you won't have to back if you weren't ready to buy yet.

True. I nver considered it cos vels costs r so low. But i could stay in lane for like 20mins

I only run out before my first back then after that it's smooth sailing. So the first swap is clarity unless there's some big play to be made with a different spell.

As a Vel'Koz main myself, since even the day when Vel'Koz was still under the attention and what not. I would have to disagree that he even needs buffs or nerfs (or even a revert). You see, you NEVER EVER EVER use ulti before landing your passive 1st, or when you land your Q or E. Personally i do that to guarantee a kill, even if even the enemy is highly mobile or even if flash is available. However, Vel'Koz's ulti alone can one shot an ADC but only if you have enough AP (and MP too, just in case), but above all, if you are slightly ahead (like fed and what not). I often use the Ultimate Hat a lot since i get to spam my ultimate more. Now that riot is changing the ultimate hat into that useless cloak thingy (thanks riot silver balance team, i actually believe they are silver, though diamond is no better anyway), i'm pretty much gonna have to sacrifice inspiration for a secondary or get domination primary, which personally i didn't like it that much. I prefer Comet more. The build i use is, item 3285 item 3089 item 3020 item 3907 item 3135 item 3157 depending on enemy team comp of course.

I never use Ultimate hat on him. I don't see why it's super important and how do you get away with no mana regen anyway?

Yeah i'm not gonna lie, with the 8.9 it's a big pain. Even with Luden's it's not that much. Hell, i already started experimenting Luden's with Archangel Staff (its shield would be useful combined with the Barrier spell i often use). Though to be fair, even before the 8.9, i always kept an eye on my mana. Never bothered to ask for a blue buff unless my jungler pings me to take it (which is rare), and if Ocean Drake comes by, i ward that instantly and ping everyone to start it asap, or just ward and hope the enemy team starts it, then i camp behind the wall then unleash my full combo on it and get the drake steal, man i got flamed from the enemy team countless times for that steal. hahahahaha Hell, i remember soloing that thing and manage to take it without help or enemy interference. I don't often end up low hp or even mana though. But there are occasions.

Well this is why I just use Manaflow Band. It's the only source of mana regen besides Doran's Ring and Elixir of Sorcery (which I would like to use if it didn't delay my build)

Yeah manaflow band is a good rune. I also use it on occasions.

I agree with this, Vel'Koz's whole true damage schtick I think was never any real part of what made him interesting, imo, and I think the most satisfying part of his kit was always comboing enemies and getting a huge burst of damage from it. I also kinda dislike how Vel'Koz has both huge range and anti-tank damage, as I don't think he really needs the latter when he has the former, so in fact I might even personally be okay with Vel losing all of his true damage if it meant allowing him more raw damage otherwise, including by having his ult apply his passive's burst all throughout. It would work better with his penetration builds (less anti-synergy with true damage), while also giving opponents better build options against him in general, which I think would be a win-win for everyone involved.

The whole reason they changed it in the first place is so that his ult is less effective on its own but more effective when comboed with his other spells. This allowed Riot to increase his potential power by adding more counterplay. And before you say I have no idea what I'm talking about.
