So why do new champions start at7800IP?

LegitBacon66··6 votes·841 views

I absolutely hate that when a new champion comes out I have around 6500 IP and then I realize I still have to wait a week to buy it because it starts at 7800 IP. Its not like IP gains are easy and its not like other champions are expensive + the cost of creating several rune pages. And we have 120+ champions. Can we please keep it at 6300 for new champions?

Because they want to you instead buy RP to purchase either the champ or the bundle. Nothing wrong with that, really.

How about if you buy 3 champion shards at 1700 each? That will get you a champ, and if you have all the other champs when the new one is released, you can get the new one for 5100. But, if you don't own all the other champs, you might get a different champ if you use the shard reroll. Just be glad it isn't 9300ip for a champ. I could see riot increasing it to that.

That actually very fuckin smart.

As someone who's been doing this since champ shards released on the store, it is so awesome. I have a few 4800 ip champs left that I sometimes get when I re-roll, but the little amounts of blue essence i get makes up for the 300 extra IP I'm "wasting" since I can use that essense on champ masteries and unlocking of other champs i want if i get the shard for them.

A decent rune page is ~15k assuming you don't already have the runes. Just FYI.

There are a lot of technical, game development reasons why a new champion is 1500 IP more on release, but the gist of it is that "it gives you something to spend your IP on". It also encourages people who don't quite have enough IP, but still want to play the champ while they're new to spend the $10 on it, so it's likely mostly just to encourage people to spend more money.

It's a sales tactic.

The high starting price encourages people to buy the champion with RP. And hey, while you are at it, why NOT just get the Camille skin-champ bundle?

Why do you think candy is cheaper, after Halloween? Economics.

But Riot isn't trying to get rid of anything. Stores want to get rid of their extra stock of candy after halloween. They have a surplus of supply. Riot has unlimited supply. Because its online and not real.

Supply and demand. Cost is higher, so that lowers supply. It increases the chance you will buy riot points to buy that "new op champ". This is also why riot had a tendancy of releasing new champs as broken 1st week, then they would patch them. It encourages people to get caught up in the hype and buy rp. Don't fall for the trap.

You're right, but candy is more expensive before Halloween, since more people want it. The same goes for new champs, they are expensive on release, as people want them, but have to be willing to pay more.

Economics.

They are encouraging people who buy champs with IP to wait a week or two so a ton of people don't just flood ranked with any particular new champ.

The 7800 change was made to offset the cost reduction of older champions.
