Because that is why suppression was created as a form of CC. So summoner 1 would not cancel the abilities that use it.

So that you couldn't just 1 spell counter a champion. Sad to say that outdated design keeps a good spell nerfed so that the champ can be considered good. Also doesn't make sense how warwick can be knocked off the person (by alistar for example) and he will finish his damage or atleats most of it unless you catch him early in the act.

Suppression effect abilities disable Summoner Spells for their duration. With Cleanse being a Summoner Spell, it would fall into the category of being disabled. It wouldn't make very much sense to allow some Summoner Spells to be used during Warwick's Infinite Duress and not others.

Everyone keep in mind that there's more than one champion with a suppression effect.

Because then there'd be no difference between a stun and a suppression.

The idea behind most suppressions is that they are DoT abilities or abilities in the process of moving your character that require you not to exit the suppression. If you could cleanse out of them, then they are pointless.

It is supposed to be a step above stuns. Making them equivalent to stuns would be ridiculous.

Why Doesn't Cleanse Remove Suppression?

Because you'd be able to hard-counter champions reliant on suppression in the picks/bans phase of the game.

If you look at suppression abilities, they tend to have serious drawbacks associated with them: Massive CD's (ultimates) (4/4) Sustained, drawn-out effect over front-loaded burst (4/4) Immobilize the user in the process of casting the ability (3/4)

Unlike a wide range of abilities (like a Tibber's stun), the CC isn't a separate effect with suppression abilities from the damage where cleansing only removes 1 part of the skill - removing suppression from suppression skills renders such skills 100% useless and counters them completely.

Just wondering why a summoner spell is basically a nerfed active of an item.

There's only 4 champions with suppression abilities, all ultimates, so I'm not seeing the much of a nerf with suppression.

Not dealing with flings/pulls/knocbacks/knockups (all airborne CC effects), slowing fields, or non-CC debuffs (bleeding, poison, non-ignite burning)...

Those make Cleanse kind of useless though.
