Survivability is completely useless as an AP carry

Rushed Banshee's Veil, still getting 100 to 0'd by a Syndra rushing damage after she lands a stun with no additional set up, even though I'm ahead by 3 kills and 20 CS.

There is literally no reason to build survivability, because the game has devolved into kill or be killed. Which in turn pushes non-burst champions out of viability, because they don't get enough time to do damage.

Fix this shit.

So I looked at the game.

You did not, in fact, rush a Banshee's Veil. You got it after Luden's and a Lost Chapter. None of Syndra's kills on you happened after 18 minutes, by then it was all Elise or Poppy.

Also, it's funny you say non-burst champions are unviable when DPS-heavy champions with moderate frontloaded burst are the strongest midlaners at the moment. This includes Cassiopeia, Orianna, Syndra, Taliyah, Corki, Lucian, etc. It's actually champions like Annie, Lux, Veigar or your average assassin (ya know, traditional burst mids with long CDs) that are hardest to pull off effectively.

I think the problem is you have no clue how to lane and cs and so you got wrecked by a Silver 1 Syndra and now you're frustrated because you blame the game instead of yourself.

(whoops put 8 instead of 18, corrected that if anyone looks back and thinks it looks off)

I think Yenn could have gone hp/lvl yellows rather than armor. 76hp at lv6 (216hp at 18) vs syndra is better than 9 armor. Also some korean ahris use a flat mr blues with either cdr/lvl or mr/lvl for tough ap matchups

Yes you need HP/lvl yellows against anyone who isn't an AD mid.

Also flat MR blues are generally bad unless you HAVE to survive till level 6 and you can't do it any other way. The only midlaners this is really applicable to are Karthus and TF and even with Karthus you can get away with scaling AP.

He should've gotten Merc Treads early for the Elise Syndra or rushed Morello, been extraordinarily safe in his farming, and then built a Banshee's.

Farming Lost Chapter into Banshee's works as well. Only champion who can go without the mana from Chapter and still maintain lane pressure is Taliyah.

Thanks for tracking down the truth. More people need to provide evidence of their claims though, at the very least they would prove themselves wrong and learn a lot.

Wait, wait, wait. So you had Banshee's... against Syndra... who somehow stunned you "with no additional setup"... and you got 100-0'd?

I can't quite put it, but I sense some bullshit in there.

probably the shield was popped 20 or so second before. long enough for someone to think there wasn't any set up.

The burst mages in particular this holds for are Annie, Veigar, Syndra, Ahri, and Lux. They all have AP ratios above 65% meaning they get more bang for their buck with scaling damage than any other mages.

Depending on your own champion's ratios, it might be best to build penetration, item 3001 and item 3194, rather than using banshee's. Anything at 60% scaling or worse is going to benefit more from penetration before it does from additional AP.

Sraeg20132 votes

AP ratios of ~65% are garbage low.

"Burst" starts with 80%.

It's pretty ridiculous that ahri gets lumped in here. She does not have the 100-0 damage on a target with no hp/mr, let alone one building defenses. The other 4 all have drastically higher scaling than her (don't forget Lux passive). Malz, orianna, and a few others have 100-0 pressure too. Ahri doesn't. She's strong, she's mobile, safe, does somewhat sustained damage, has true damage, has cc, but she does not have anywhere close to 100-0 burst damage.

Squey3 votes

Very incorrect. I have died to a lv 9 ahri who missed every q and e but because w and r cant be dodged plus ignite and autos, i died.

Which proves nothing, congratulations.

Either she was already extremely fed / you were extremely behind (she was 9, were you like level 6?) Or you were pretty low health to begin with. Or it's a bogus story.

At rank 2 (level 9) w can do a maximum of 104 base + 48% ap magic damage (assuming all 3 fires hit you, which is unlikely given they spawn on all sides of her some should go for minions). Each cast of r deals 70 base damage + 25% ap as magic damage at rank 1, with 3 casts maximum.

That's a total of 314 + 123% ap magic damage. With 30mr (base plus runes, basically the minimum you could have) that's 242 + 95% ap damage. Even with 200ap at level 9 (which would be EXTREMELY fed) she'd only do 432 damage, which is less than any champion's level 1 base health. Even adding 250 damage from ignite and autos, it's still not enough to eat your base health. And again, that's assuming 200ap at level 9 which is absolutely absurd.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7yxyXR2b1TI time stamp 4:20 funny how all i had to do was look up " ahri early game all in kills" on google and the first video basically shows what im talking about. looks like a differant patch but its also lv 6 not 9. u severly underestimate how many autos u can get off with the mobility she has.

Plus we are debating whether she can kill u with out using q and e. In your original argument u talk about how she cant 100-0 burst when she is picked and known mostly for killing people in the span of her charm cc duration.

The problem is syndra the champion. Just like how bot lane is dominated by a handful of ADCs out of all the ADCs in the game.

This holds true for pretty much every burst champion, not just Syndra.

AR URF1 votes

Well yeah there are plenty of champions that dominate mid lane. That's why I like to play yasuo a lot. I believe the burst problem is why they created item 3194. But honestly this item doesn't have any damage properties to it. It's a pain to have to build defensively just to tank someones damage.

An Undead brat4 votes

Shame item 3194 sucks against burst and trashes DPSs...

IMO this sort of thinking is the reason why League is getting messed up. Someone with 5 offensive items + boots should be one shot by any burst mage or assassin that can touch them (who have also invested in 5 damage items).

Riot has been balancing things around letting squishies survive burst champions without having to give up damage, which in turn made those squishies who could be quickly taken out able to dish out even more damage and spend less time repositioning to get out of danger, which in turned caused a big part of the infamous damage creep that League has seen in the last 3-4 Seasons.

This is true, but when it comes to syndra, all she has to do is press r. I know this statement is overused in league, but my friend who mains her said so. Now getting bursted by someone like Ahri is fine because you can potentially dodge it. Syndra however is targeted. Now mages in generally I'd consider pretty weak. The problem right now is lethality IMO.

TequilaZombie1 votes

This should be fixed by having her rely on QWE as much as on her R to get a kill. She doesn't need less damage, she needs to have her damage relocated.

Sraeg20132 votes

The problems are:

  1. Masteries (20-30% damage increase)
  2. Champions that naturally crowd Syndra out aren't meta.
Catastrophic8 votes

Which is also why ADCs have turned to burst instead of DPS.

If you wanna survive Syndra burst, you need item 3194 because her ult counts as multiple seperate hits from the same source. Might not have AP. But there ya have it.

Unless there's someone around to kill her along side them all they would be doing is slowing down their death, which is useless.

Sraeg20135 votes

There are times when surviving Syndra's ult is the best way to get her killed.

Even in a 1v1.

I think phreak and zirene said this is a terrible idea for a few reasons and youd be better off getting spirit visage instead unless they have other things that the helm can reduce

Linna Excel1 votes

No, that item is basically an anti-cass item. SV is better all around because AH's passive is only good against a few champs.

Mostly, yes. And anti-Singed. But Cass gets played more. With reason. But one of the greatest complains I hear about Syndra is her very skillful ult. And 20% dmg reduction for 87.5% of her ult dmg on top of the benefits from the health and mr is substantial (assuming 8 balls)

7 balls is the maximum, btw.

That so wrong, Riot casters specifically pointed out the fact that adaptive helm is worse than SV at all levels against Syndra R.

I really don't see how though. 100 hp vs 20% damage reduction on most of the ult. Basic math dictates that Adaptive wins out.

Sagan Forever1 votes

They have buffed the health and damage reduction of item 3194 since then.

The Deckowner1 votes

Phreak did the math and his video in his youtube channel showed it, you can look it up.

Before the buff it was no where close to SV, after the buff it barely keeps up with SV. The reason it's inferior is because you need Syndra to have like a ridiculous amount of ap for the dmg reduction to equal to the extra mr and health IIRC.

DuskDaUmbreon3 votes

That's because the counterplay to Syndra isn't Veil. It's summoner 21 and a fuckton of CC. You need to be able to CC her before she can nuke you. Barrier is for if she happens to hit you with the stun first.

The Choncho1 votes

I always have a hard time figuring out if barrier or exhaust is better against her during her burst

DuskDaUmbreon1 votes

Barrier is a lower CD, but, more importantly, can be used instantly to not die. While Exhaust is more effective, when she ults you, you're usually stunned, and can't get up to her to exhaust her.

P0IS0N IVY3 votes

You didn't build Banshees until 22 min. That's not rushing. The first time Syndra killed you was 8 min in and you had 1 kill and 2 assists. Syndra had 1 assist.
