So apparently damage hasn't changed at all, it isn't higher. It's a wrong statement... Huh really ?!

This is just one example of many available if you compare old lol videos to new ones.

Garen lvl 1 vs Irelia lvl 1 / season 3 :

1 auto + 1 Q from Garen = 1/6 of irelia's life :

https://youtu.be/hEwCJRpsgsg?t=144

Garen lvl 1 vs Irelia lvl 1 / season 9 :

1 auto + 1 Q from garen = 1.5/6 of irelia's life

https://youtu.be/GZ-x3oDq90E?t=17

So it is an increasement of 50% damage

add to this one auto and the keystone electrochoc = irelia's life = 3/6

But some experts or some people which didn't played in the past say nothing changed...

Yeah i mean just look at the entire 2 videos and compare you'll see that there is something wrong with league's current damage.

during past seasons lvl 1 damage was like peanut damage. However nowadays with the keystones and the current damage 1 spell 2 autos combo and you can midlife easy with most of the characters in the game.

the real untold story is that defense has gotten nerfed repeatedly to what it is today. we used to be able to start into lane with 15+ armor just from runes alone in addition to masteries,(ignoring masteries which if added to the table was probably another 2-5 or more) defense tree used to be really good in the past. we used to had stuff like % reduced dmg as options basically actual defense masteries that tanks would want.

also its probably not just that damage was increased directly. but rather that defense was nerfed nonstop while cdr was given out like candy to everyone. basically making league over time more like urf mode. i still remember when warmogs gave an actual sizable amount of health but then had to be nerfed when squishies(adcs/mages) started warmogs stacking.(rather then just flat out disable warmogs for those champs riot chose to go the easy route and just nerf it to oblivion almost) i also remember when it cdr was an actual rare stat that was hard to fit into builds nowadays almost everyone gets to max cdr without even trying.

  1. garens spin also used to deal a lot more damage in season 1 (especially at earlier levels). right now, its a joke until lvl 5 and barely even an ability until lvl 7 where it starts to scale. spin max used to be meta, while its now q max for exactly the same reason that the spin scales more with level than with rank

  2. item 1029 and 4 item 2003 start was the norm back then, as you can see irelia has them in her inventory in the first video but not in the second video. she has item 2033, leading to more sustain but less upfront defense in the second case

  3. it was one auto attack and one q from garen in the first video, and one auto attack + q + another auto attack in the second video. just watch it again. he got two autos in on the second video. he actually even turned around and got a third shortly afterwards.

i distinctly remember when i started out with this game, that garen could straight up 100 to 0 certain enemies at level 2 with one q and a full spin back in the day. his q also used to silence for 2.5 seconds instead of 1.5 seconds, which means there is also a power shift going on.

all this really just proves is that garen deals shit for damage in the early game right now and nothing more.

i wont dispute that there is power creep in this game overall, but its not all damage creep. a gigantic chunk of it is utility and versatility of newer champion kits.

the bar of what a champion has to be able to do to compete has steadily raised. especially with champion releases like the VGU Irelia Akali Urgot and smaller kit updates like Chogath etc.

the largest factor of power creep in the top lane overall was probably the release of Gnar

for the longest time after his release, he was the sole deciding factor of what champions are allowed to compete top lane and who cant.
