Frostfang changes - please don't

Altiverse··9 votes·1,163 views

Changed from "Killing minions and non-epic monsters slows Tribute generation." to "Killing minions and non-epic monsters stops Tribute generation, consumption, and gold generation for 12 seconds per unit slain.

This item's primary users, namely mages, usually do kill minions accidentally in lane through their AoEs. (Zyra, Brand, Karma...) This isn't the right way to remove it from solo lanes.

If it pushes Brand out of bot lane then by all means please push this change.

Or... just nerf Brand instead of hurting the gold generation of every support that attempts to take the Spellthief line? >_>

Also, considering Brand is strong as a support because he needs 0 AP to deal insane amounts of damage, he will still be strong as long as they don't revert this stupid maxHP% buff

have you been paying attention to recent patches riot things brand and specifically his passive isnt impactful enough

I like getting freelo with Brand with the Liandries changes, free sighstone, and slight Rylai’s buff though

For real, Riot must be high as fuck to completely forget about Brand in all these changes, coupled with his buffs when he was “struggling”

Then nerf Brand?

Why would you nerf an item that Brand uses but also every other poke support uses as well when its Brand being the problem?

Spellthief is strong right now though, yes.

How would you differentiate between solo laners that repeatedly kill minions to not benefit from Spellthief-Line and damage oriented mage supports occassionally killing them?

Meaning: Do you have a better suggestion to make the item more exclusive to supports?

Altiverse6 votes

Another guy suggested in a different discussion that all support line items should have a passive that reduces gold gained from all minion last-hits (excluding the last upgrade perhaps). Seems like a very sensible way to turn this off for solo laners, while allowing supports to shove a lane/hit minions with AoEs without being penalized for it.

I must admit to be surprised by that suggestion as it turns out to be quite easy while hitting several issues at once. I like the kiss/curse mechanic and don't see penalties to supports at all. It also works for all three lines if you let the penalty apply to minions that are not killed with a charge of relic shield. Good idea indeed. You don't have the original source in case I want to quote that in expectation of friday's "Quick Gameplay Thoughts" by Meddler?

They suggested (as an example) 6g per minion which does seem far too harsh, I think 4-5g will do the job well enough.

how about stop fucking deleting warding items to stop every other class from taking it?

If you actually bothered to pay any attention to your gameplay whatsoever, you'd realize that this is actually how the effect has always worked on the item 3303 line. They aren't changing Tribute, they're just adding the conditional to the other two item lines.

In fact, they're actually buffing Tribute, because they're removing the restriction from item 3092.

Altiverse5 votes

Well, did you bother reading my post? I copy pasted the changes of the Spellthief line from Sur20 changelist. This is a direct nerf to these users, as they're increasing the punishment for killing minions. Plus the restriction never did apply to item 3092 . This is how it is live.

Actually they are adding the part about stopping the passive gold earned and tribute stack consumption as well! But obviously you don't bother to pay attention to your gameplay whatsoever so how could you possibly know

Why does it have to be exclusive to supports? Is it breaking the game? I see it more as an alternative playstyle.

Before we get to the actual changes, a small note. This is a shift from our normal values for the item system. Generally, we want items to invite exploration, and we seek to create building blocks that allow champions to find inventive, flexible builds that can express different power for different players or in different contexts. We should be delighted when players find new ways to gain power from the item system.

However, the support items have a lot of work to do that is important to the structure of the game. When these items can be poached, it weakens our ability to improve the support position, and reduces our ability to ensure that farming champions have beneficial amounts of risk and reward to their play. The support items have had a lot of smaller changes attempt to build controls, but they’ve frequently been ineffective and painful to adjust to over and over. These new changes attempt to go a bit harder, and build stronger protections against farming champions gaining significant benefit.

Supports aren't allowed to farm minions since their carry needs it more, hence why the gold generation item was created to assist Supports' gold income without having to farm.

Solo laners already gets to have their own minion gold. Why should they be pampered further with the gold generation item?

Spellthief's Edge already is the fasted Gold Generation line out of all 3. This is fine.

no. this is wrong. its coin. in fact, it only comes close if you play someone like morg or are playing extremely aggro.

Riot themselves said Spellthief's has the highest gold generation out of all three.

There are spreadsheets of this data available somewhere.

Lucas Fehrwight1 votes

And I'm telling you they are wrong. I always compare my generation to other supports. For example, coin gold description is bugged right now. Or another example. A few months ago, frostfang wasnt showing that it gave cdr even though it did. Likewise, I have been noticing that coin users have been having similar amounts of gold to my spellthief, if not more. Or another example. I played a game as coin and spelltheif and ended up with ~200 more gold at 20 min. i had ~1400 gold on coin at 20 min. Its was actually a little more than this but this is from memory and so I am underestimating. You get the idea.

Furious Delisha1 votes

Oh, so Riot's numbers, the ones they get by collecting all the data from the games we play, are wrong. That must be the reason why their balance team is terrible. They are working with bad numbers!

Reaper Soraka1 votes

As long as it disables after we finish quest I don't really care. I'll have to be more careful for the first 10-12 minutes of the game then I can go back to playing like normal.

It's too bad they have to flat out hurt supports to force other roles into not taking support items. It's almost like people like wards and stuff.
