Why was nunu's w changed to 20% ap from 40%?

All the problems that this game currently has. being op. Stealth being op. True damage being ridiculous. Marksmen being gutted. Tanks now starting to become irrelevant. Juggernauts in every lane. Jungle changes make playing jungle unenjoyable. Games too fast. Turrets too weak. And the list goes on. Yet here comes this yeti just minding his own business, eating whatever plant or animal he chooses and you decide to hit him with a huge nerf when his play rate is very low and who's primarily a jungler and you nerf him?

If you watch any Pro league you'd probably heard of this, but recently there's been big talk of strategies where you'll feed both Mid lane farm and the jungle camps to a single champion, and the 5th player would take a low economy champion, such as a support. Doing this correctly results in one hyper fed champion, with a massive EXP and gold lead over any other champion in the game.

One of the really popular strats is Karthus+Nunu. Where Karthus will take smite, catch all of the mid lane farm and then in-between waves farms jungle camps also. Nunu will piggy back around with Karthus scraping up whatever minions he can with his Relic shield and just Blood Boil Karthus Making him even more insaine when the fights break out.

Its a duo strategy, karthus/nunu which is pretty strong, not sure why people call it a boosting strat, its just a strat, you might aswell attempt it and lose games :D

Its a boosting strat because in most real games youre side lanes will lose horribly as there will be no gank pressure but the enemy team will definitely gank, and youre down a proper mid laner. All gold on one champ becomes easy for them to deal with as they have better CC usage and priority management.

To be fair the problem isn't in Nunu/Karthus or Taric/Yi. The problem is the massive EXP lead and gold avaliable when you feed it all to one champion. Sure you can cut being able to hyper boost an AP champion's power with Blood Boil, but that's not what made the strat stupid powerful.

That's why Nunu is used with Karthus or any AP scaling champion with that strat. His W is basically a free mini Deathcap, combine that with Karthus' ult and you have a nuke that you can buff.

But Riot being Riot decides to nerf the champions rather than make systemic changes.

the problem is that duos are allowed in solo que and can abuse their superior communication and coordination against a less coordinated enemy team of randoms.

They're calling it 'Gold funneling'. Basically the jungler gets all mid farm + jungle farm. You will be +2 levels on a standard enemy mid laner and pros have been hitting 300cs by 20 minutes. Obviously the strat boring as fuck and becomes a contest of who's carry can farm the most. Yeah, so fun and interactive.

Apart from the gold funneling stat, Meddler also mentioned that it's not something they're gonna keep once he gets his rework, so it's not worth the headache of really fine-tuning it when it's currently being used in unhealthy ways.
